Title: Shutter Island
Post by: treachery on March 22, 2010, 02:24:37 pm
I really enjoyed this film. A great atmosphere throughout the entire movie. Top notch craftmanship in terms of scripting, acting, directing, setting, costumes, cinematograpy, etc. You name it. Every detail. It's very beautiful and very tragic. It's daring and challenges the audience. There are many surrealistic elements in this film which works very well and adds more dimensions than your normal hollywood thriller.

The only little problem I had was that it wants to be a very smart movie (in terms of twists in the plot). I'm normally kind of negative to this but I don't think it's that bad in this one. Probably because it has so many other qualities and not only try to be clever.

Scorsese still pushes his limits and tries something new after almost 40 years as a director. DiCaprio is still one of the best actors alive. I hope they continue to make movies together.

I don't think I've ever been moved likes this by a movie before. Somehow it really got to me, deep.

The scenery and atmosphere is just top notch. There are elements from nearly all kinds of genres: drama, action, thriller, horror, romance and even some comedy. The story is just so beautifully played out that you just have to sit back and enjoy the ride, though not without trying to solve some serious mind-puzzles. Character development is really well made and it seems to happen seamlessly. The acting is nothing less than brilliant of course, with Leo once again proving his downright awesomeness. I think it's safe to say that he is the best male actor currently.

I have never seen a more touching, engaging, emotional and tragic movie. Some of the images won't go away.

You can feel this movie!

Scorsese masterpiece.

Watched this with Narco and Shankski today, good film, definitely recommend it to anyone who hasn't seen it yet. Quite the mind fuck, but it all comes together in the end! There's also a very good quality version available here:

If you decide to watch it, enjoy!

I downloaded this a few days ago.  Just got around to watching it.  The sound quality is AWFUL.  Absolutely terrible.  Picture isn't too bad.  Will be waiting for a better release before I bother with it.

Only seeing R5 rips atm -- presuming they all have bad audio?

I think you're over exaggerating about the sound a bit it's not that bad but not the best. Most of the film is talking, which you can make out very clearly from start to finish.

The R5 is pretty shit, yeah. I stopped watching it and rather wait for a 720 or 1080.

While you *can* make it out, it's still muffled and distorted.  Anyone using decent speakers would turn it off within seconds :P  And, god, the music and louder sound effects like thunder in the intro made me want to cringe.

Finally watched it!

Totally surprised -- fantastic film. Had forgotten it was a Scorsese film until the credits rolled... but then it made sense :)

Loved the surreal scenes throughout!

Such a fantastic feeling of MENACE ran throughout the whole film. Chilling... made me squirm in my chair a few times. Woo!
