Title: Sherlock Holmes
Post by: Ameliorate on February 01, 2010, 09:33:38 pm
The best film Guy Richie has directed in years.  Action packed, great character placement, a great night out at the flicks when the sound is loud enough to drown out the hordes of popcorn munching chavs.

I thought it was really, really naff.

But that's just me :P

From the trailers I get the impression that there is no real protagonist in this... everybody just seems to be comical sideshows. And also, Holmes and martial arts? Not really how I pictured it.

Will have a look anyways.

The trailers I've seen so far make it so I don't want to watch it  :-\

It's a good movie, has some fun scenes and okay twists here and there. The acting is great and all. Its worth a watch.

It's far too long, though.

That's part of the mystery.  Martial Arts?  Nope, just the simply application of logic to a fighting style, elementary..

Naff = sux?

I enjoyed it, especially the first half. 2nd one got a bit 08/15, like the slaughterhouse scene that looked stolen from Saw.

Btw Sherlock.Holmes.DVDSCREENER.XviD-MENTiON and the likes are actually ~DVD-Rip quality this time.

# Sherlock Holmes (2009)
# RocknRolla (2008)
# Suspect (2007) (TV)
# Revolver (2005/I)
# Swept Away (2002)
... aka Travolti dal destino (Italy)
# Star (2001/I)
... aka The Hire: Star (USA: series title)
# Snatch. (2000)

Swept Away was shite, I agree, but all the others I loved, so I disagree with your point :|

Snatch is awesome.

Thought this was a quite bad and predictable movie.
5/10

I think I just expected more from Law and Downey Jr -- they're both great, but felt a little bit weak in some kind of... semi-serious action film.

The whole 'wireless' thing at the end... urgh.

Dunno. I was expecting more thriller/mystery than action, that's all.

Naff = cheesy/crap/flat.

Must agree with dell on this one, I was quite disappointed.

Although I do also think its his best movie since snatch and lock stock.

RocknRolla was bullcrap.

It wasn't as good as snatch but still was enjoyable, for me atleast.

the movie was just entertaining. The theme was nice, a little exotic, mystic...
Funny aswell.
Robert Downey Jr.'s acting was very good.
But in the end, it was just an entertainment. 5.5/10

it was cinematically successfull ! that's all man :]
i watch a lot of movies, and there are movies far better.

ah yes, cookies would be cool :] i may add a bonus of 0.5 for +cookie.  :P
i expect a perfect storytelling, perfect acting, perfect direction of photography,
perfect music, and more..
The Genre of Sherlock Holmes is not the same. In his own genre it was successful. And that's why it has similar points with "Hurt Locker". Nonetheless, Hurt Locker is far better in a lot of values.
