Are people up for this on Saturday, say 4pm CEST?

I think maybe ancient start would be better, as that is what most people will have practiced. It also means that no civs unique unit will be wasted.

What do people think of the Earth2 style map. I quite like the idea but it might make it hard to gang up on a run-away leader.

I'm almost through a Great Plains game at the mo -- very, very easy, but also some people are separated permanently, because there's no body of water -- the person on the left may never meet the person on the right.

Earth2 was fun because you know where the land masses generally are! Europe was hilariously tight though -- I started in Spain, and I had an enemy in north France. I didn't even have space for a second city!

I'm currently having an epic game on "Fleme's Earth18", which is the first scenario in the list. I think we should try an MP game on that map.

We can fill the empty spots with AI, then allow late joiners to take over an AI civ. If we also make the AI play people who can't make it on a particular weekend then we are go.

Anyone who is interested should try a single player "Fleme's Earth" game first, so that they can pick their fave civ. I will take whatever is left. Be aware that the three civs in the old world have a big tech disadvantage (you get a bonus to research for all the civs you have contacted who have the tech you are researching). This is somewhat balanced by safety... But you better be ready for Palmar's conquistadors!

Ah yes I remember downloading it now. It is a modified version of the one that ships. Altered to make the starting positions more even etc. It plays out really well.

Here is the link if you wanna try before saturday (you don't have to download to join the MP game, just if you wanna test)

There is a new version of that map http://forums.civfanatics.com/downloads.php?do=file&id=14572

I'm not sure if we should use that one though. I'm sure the starting position balance tweaks are good but he has removed Montezuma, Victoria, Tokugawa and added Pacal II, Peter and Gandhi.

I guess those leaders make for a better game balance (when they are played by AI), but it removes some interesting MP choices. Saftey of a island vs being stuck on a island. In all the games I have played as England Japan has always been very backward.

Maybe I will give it a try and see...

Well I hope they have seriously rebalanced the map, as I played a Earth18 map as England, and was unable to get more than 3 cities, starting on the british isles, while the Russian and American comps start on a massive landmass with lots of resources, and little competition.

Also I don't think its a good idea to do a map where we already know the layout of, especially one that comes with screen shots showing where all the good resources are located.

The idea would be to choose a civ that you were happy with the start location. I would activley encourage people to open the map in the world builder to check where the resources are.

In the games I have played many different AI civs have been my main competion, leading me to think that the map is pretty well balanced. Maybe we should choose the v1.1 map though to aviod anyone getting stuck on an island.

Right we had a little test of the map etc last night and we are good to go. We are going to use Fleme's Earth18 v1.1  map from this link http://forums.civfanatics.com/downloads.php?do=file&id=14572.

If you want to have a good look at it first download it into you beyond the sword\public maps folder. It should then appear in the list of available scenarios. Choose a civ and take one turn. Then go to game menu -> enter world builder to check it out.

I have a feeling this game is going to be epic!
