Hello, Iron Edge!

I am applying for the Weekend Raid.

Character: Dawnstríder
Armory: https://worldofwarcraft.com/en-gb/character/eu/Kazzak/Dawnstr%C3%ADder
Class/Spec: Paladin (DPS/Healer)
Member Type: Weekend Raider

Personal Info:

Hello!

My name is Jéan-luc (Yes, like the Star Trek Captain!) I am 25 years old and from the beautiful land of Wales, UK!

I currently work for the UK challenger bank Starling, where I am part of the newly founded Cardiff support centre.

My role at Starling is "Specialist Support", this means I am the person my colleagues look to when a customer with any sort of vulnerability, disability or difficulty appears to be in urgent need of our assistance.

I am a graduate of the University of South Wales, where I studied Theatre and English (Graduating with a 1:1!) I have performed in many well known (and unknown) shows including Lés Miserables, Aladdin, RENT and many more!

I have recently returned to the game having not played since Uldir progression, where I had to quit due to a sudden change in circumstances (everything has been resolved now though, which I am thankful for).

Class/Spec:

My main spec has (almost) always been Retribution on my Paladin, he has been my main character since the late days of Vanilla and I have enjoyed great success in previous expansions raiding in this spec.

I have always ensured to keep as up to date as possible with my other two specs, which I think is vital as a hybrid class (the main bonus is being able to tank/heal your way through content if needs be!).

I would say that my main offspec is Holy, which I thoroughly enjoy playing, however I do not have a great deal of raiding experience as Holy (I am more than happy to build on this, however).

My Ilvl's are as follows:

Retribution: 475
Holy: 471
Protection: 472

I'd like to believe I am almost innately 'in sync' with my Paladin at this point in my WoW life, I have raided as a Paladin since I was 12 years old (waaaay back in Karazhan).

However, I understand that classes can change wildly, even between patches! I have a number of Retribution Paladins that I watch on YouTube or Twitch and regularly trawl through the All Stars of Warcraft logs to better understand how they adapt to each fight.

As with any "Builder-Spender" class, the basic idea of Retribution is: Keep your builders on cooldown > don't cap Holy Power > Press the flashy buttons.

In seriousness, the rotation has very small variances depending on talent choices and RNG procs, however the Patchwerk rotation is:

Templar's Verdict at 5 HP > Hammer of Wrath > Blade of Justice > Crusader Strike (2 stacks) > Judgement > Empyrean Power Divine Storm > Wake of Ashes when at 0 HP and no builders are available.

My current character specific simulation ranks stats as the following priortiy:

Crit = Mastery > Haste > Versatility > Strength > WDPS

Alts:

My most relevant alt is my Balance/Restoration Druid "Moonstríder" (original!)

Balance Ilvl: 465

Restoration Ilvl: 465

I have only recently joined this server, so I am in the process of creating an army of alts here (as I had on my old server).

I also have a Mage and Hunter at 120 and plan to gear as many characters as possible (as I am happy to alt switch).

Professions:

Dawnstríder: Alchemy and Blacksmithing

Moonstríder: Herbalism and Enchanting

Unfortunately I do not have any rare or special recipes (I'm a terrible person who has swapped professions a lot of times over the years).

I am about to switch from Blacksmithing to Engineering on my paladin to make use of the goggles (and it's great Azerite options).

I use Herbalism and Alchemy to be as self-sufficient as possible in raid preparation.

Raiding Experience:

My raid experience dates back to TBC and Karazhan.

TBC (as Holy):

Karazhan: Fully cleared.

SSC: Full cleared.

Gruul's lair: Fully cleared.

Hyjal: Fully Cleared.

Tempest's keep: Fully cleared.

Unfortunately I was unable to raid any further, (I had school exams, not bad for 12/13 though!).

WOTLK:

Naxxramas: Fully cleared (10/25).

VOA: Full cleared.

Ulduar: Fully cleared with multiple achievements and hard modes.

TOC: (small break, fully cleared but only just before ICC launched).

ICC: Fully cleared on 10 and 25 man HC (post nerf).

During Cataclysm and Mists of Pandaria, I did not play very much due to my long term guild (Valour - Emerald Dream) falling apart following a few key people (including the GM) suddenly quitting the game, in honesty, I struggled to find a guild which filled the void.

I returned in WOD to play casually, however I found myself raiding in mythic very quickly (I just have that itch!).

Highmaul: HC cleared and 2/7 Mythic

Blackrock Foundry: HC cleared and 4/10 Mythic

Hellfire Citadel: HC cleared and 9/13 Mythic

Toward the end of WOD I began University, a new job and a new relationship, I stepped down from raiding to focus on my grades and eventually took a break from playing as my guild at the time (VII - Emerald Dream) began a new policy of "no socials".

Previous Guilds:

As I mentioned above, I've played on/off since Vanilla, so I will list my main raiding guilds.

Forsaken Enlightenment: Vanilla - TBC - Left the guild at the start of WOTLK due to the GM's stepping down to begin a family.

Bad Company: Early WOTLK - GM of the guild caused an awful argument during a raid which caused an officer (and his son) to leave the guild quickly followed by a majority of the raid team due to remarks made.

Valour: WOTLK - Cataclysm - Guild became dormant at the very tail end of WOTLK after enjoying a whole expansion of fantastic raiding, great friendships and memories, unfortunately life does come before wow and the sudden loss of the GM and a few officers caused many to leave.

MOP: I remained guildless for the small amount I did play in Cataclysm and MOP, however this was very, very little.

WOD:

The Vikings (Highmaul - BRF): I had a great time at The Vikings, unfortunately a breakup between the couple who ran the guild caused half of the guild to leave with one GM and the other GM to eventually stop playing, the guild became dormant.

Headhunters (Heroic BRF and Mythic BRF): I joined Headhunters with two friends from The Vikings following the dormancy, heroic was fantastic, however a change in raid leader for Mythic caused a ego-trip (for lack of a better term) and a number of players quit / left due to being spoken down to.

VII: (Mythic BRF - Beginning of Legion): VII was and still is one of Emerald Dream's most successful guilds, I haven't a bad word to say about it and only left due to a change in the guild's rules and my change in circumstances.

Legion: I played very little at the start of the expansion (mainly to experience the story) as I could not commit due to University.

BFA:

Valour: Upon returning to WOW for BFA, I found that a number of old friends had reformed Valour during Legion (with a number of new faces as well!). Unfortunately two officers in the guild became quite toxic as we began raiding Mythic, including undermining the Raid Leader during raids, despite a handful of guild members and the raid leader complaining about their conduct, they were not punished or removed from the guild, I left due to this.

Final Judgement: I decided to switch server as my original server (Emerald Dream) is a very small community and became very quiet during WOD (not a single guild has killed N'zoth yet).

I enjoyed my few raids with FJ before I was forced to quit WOW due a sudden change in my living circumstances, when I returned to the game the guild had transferred to a PVP server.

Stellar Drifters: I decided to re-roll Horde (and to an active server) SD had a very inviting forum post which sounded great for a returning player seeking to build friendships and to consider raiding further down the line.

However, upon joining it wasn't quite what the post made out, I have made a handful of very good friends in my short time at the guild, however the GM and many officers were only seen at raid time or during their mythic+ runs.

Within my second week in the guild, officer drama caused step downs and guild quits, raiding had been stopped until Shadowlands and now 12 of the 20 Mythic raiders have left the guild.

I would say I feel cheated (but that is very dramatic) and I'm sad to have joined a guild and left so quickly based on how  great the initial impression was.

Availability:

I am online almost every evening and would most likely have been able to commit to the main raid team, however I am about to become a puppy-parent and with a recent promotion in work, I believe I would be better suited to committing 100% attendance for Sunday raids.

Due to Coronavirus my plans for holidays have been cancelled for the foreseeable future.

Communication:

I would like to believe that being a Drama graduate, that my English is world class! (though I am Welsh, so boo England!).

I could download and use TS3 if necessary, though I believe the guild now use Discord!

Computer / Connection:

I have only recently treated myself to a brand new gaming PC, it is capable of running WOW on max settings without a sweat.

I also have a gaming laptop as a backup (fingers crossed it would not be needed)!

My internet connection has been newly wired into my home and I live directly opposite my interchange, so my ping barely peaks above 10.

Addons/UI:

DBM - The grandfather of all raiding, I personally believe its entire kit should be baked into the base game as it's been so widely used for so long.

Healbot - Useful for utility spells and/or playing as Holy

Angry Assignments - keeping track of interrupts, cooldowns etc.

WeakAuras - Another swiss army knife, it feels almost limitless in it's usefulness!

Announce interrupts -  I personally find this useful to track any missed interrupts and to keep track of interrupt orders during hectic fights that sometimes cause AA to be lost.

Details! - Useful for tracking all sorts of information (also for padding the charts!).

Blink's Health Text - I find a visualisation of my health bar beside my character to be useful during combat and allows me to keep my focus on the encounter rather than flicking to my health every so often.

UI Screenshot: https://imgur.com/gallery/ZrbuSyk

This is my basic UI, I am currently working on setting up ElvUI in a way I like to cut down on addons and create a simpler design.

Other Games:

I play a whole host of other games!

Civilisation, Total War, Pokemon, LoL and countless other Nintendo titles.

However WOW has always been my favourite game, so it's my go-to when I want to game either solo or with friends!

(though any Civilisation / TW fans who fancy a co-op game would be awesome!)

Why Iron Edge?

Without the fear of sounding dramatic, I'm looking for a guild to call home again.

I'm sure we all suffer from nostalgia for old expansions sometimes, however I have never captured the feeling of community and belonging that I had in WOTLK again.

Iron Edge is a Cutting Edge guild and that's impressive, you have a big community and two successful raid teams, which again, is a huge achievement.

But what impressed me the most was reading your website and seeing photographs of meetups, seeing how so many people just sit in your discord and chat outside of raid time.. it's how a guild should be.

Yes, I would love to kill N'Zoth before Shadowlands, I am a raider at heart and I want to be a contributing factor to my guilds success, however the most important element for me is being part of a community that enjoys playing together, progresses together and builds genuine friendships.

WoW can be stressful, it can be cutthroat and mythic raiding *can* bring out the worst in people, however a guild with genuine friends never suffers from the bad elements because you just laugh at something that went wrong and solve the issue, instead of belittling and scorning, it's about building.

That is why I want to join Iron Edge.

Also, that dog is hellah cute.

What can I offer Iron Edge?

I would offer Iron Edge a player who has seen (nearly) everything, been to the highest peaks of raiding and the most basic of social playing.

I am a person who enjoys wow in all aspects, I'm always gearing another alt and I ALWAYS want to do Mythic+! (yes I'm that person who asks if anyone is up for keys every evening!).

I am also a highly adaptable player and happy to gear alts and offspecs to benefit the guild, I'm not so attached to one character that re-rolling entirely is painful, I'd happily switch character is my class is not optimal.

Finally, I'd like to believe that I also bring humour and a personable attitude, my line of work demands a certain level of trust building with total strangers and a demeanour and allows them to open up to life's worries.

Where did I hear about Iron Edge?

Wowprogress

Last Words?

My character was previously named "Fowler-Kilrogg" or "Fowler-Emerald Dream" on wowprogress, this name was taken when I server transferred hence Dawnstríder!

I would also like to add that whilst I am applying for a raid spot and my hear is 100% in this, I am more than happy to join as a social member, prove my reliability and commitment and provide cover for the raid team until either I have proved myself or an opportunity opens up on the team.

I have joined the discord and I am happy to discuss anything and everything! My Discord tag will be Dawnstríder.

Thank you for taking the time to read my application!

Hello there, Mr. Picard.
