Raider Application - Hunter (DPS) - Zimbo
« on: November 30, 2014, 03:21:00 pm »
Hello, Iron Edge!

Character: Zimbo
Armory: http://eu.battle.net/wow/en/character/Kazzak/Zimbo/advanced
Class/Spec: Hunter (DPS)
Member Type: raider

Personal Info:

My name is Gil Tamir. I am a 31 years old Israeli student of computer science working on my PHD in complexity theory/Cryptography.

Class/Spec:

My current main spec is Marksmanship, since it is outperforming both BM and SV by a large margin on single target/cleave situations. I am comfortable with both BM and SV if this changes. My offspec is BM for extreme AoE situations/soloing.

Regarding my spec, I feel the only two interesting choices are Crouching Tiger Hidden Chimaera vs. Posthaste, and Glaive Toss vs. Barrage. CTHC is the default choice, with Posthaste a strong option for kiting or when a lot of ground needs to be covered quickly. GT is the choice for single target, with Barrage pulling ahead on AoE.

My gear level is currently 637 (mostly due to using BiS pre-raid/BoE trinkets, which aren't 630). I have pieces with secondary stats that are better for BM/SV to switch to if needed.

Alts:

I have a lot of alts, all are 90+ and on Kazzak. I have raided in some sort (normals mostly, with a few heroics) on most of them.

Professions:

I use Engineering/Alchemy. With the changes in WoD, this choice doesn't matter much, as there are no more combat perks, and everything is BoE.

The one exception to this, is that engineering provides Nitro Boosts. While they are not always the right choice to use, since they share a CD with potions, and can fail, this is still a unique combat benefit not offered by other professions.

Raiding Experience:

My progress for Most of Wotlk and early Cataclysm was cutting edge (Commonly fighting for Kazzak top 5 kills).

TBC (tank/dps offspec):
Kara, Gruul's Lair, Magtheridon's Lair - Full
SSC, TK, MH - Full
BT - up to Illidan

Wotlk (dps/tank offspec):
Naxx,EoE,OS - full
Ulduar 10/25 - full HM (incl. Alone in the darkness and herald of the titans)
TOTC 10/25 - full HC (incl. A tribute to dedicated insanity)
ICC 10/25 - 11/12 HC
RS - normal

Cataclysm (dps/tank offspec):
TTFW,BoT,BWD - full HC (incl. I Can't Hear You Over the Sound of How Awesome I Am)
Firelands - 6/7 HC

MoP (dps):
SOO - 8/14 HC

Previous Guilds:

BC: Prot War main (named Tankk).
The Institute - I was an officer and raid leader in an Israeli guild that made a few steps into 25 man content and then disbanded, I spent the rest of the expansion raiding casually and messing around with pvp. I left the guild when it disbanded due to inactivity

Wotlk: DK main (named Azuwraith)
BloodReign - I spent most of my time as a core member of BloodReign, and had a great time there, progress was good (Kazzak horde top 5 kills were common) and the people were great. We eventually hit a wall on LK HC, and 25 man raiding was discontinued.

Cataclysm: DK main (named Azuwraith)
BloodReign - I was asked to step up to an officer position, and accepted. Since we had stopped raiding at the end of Wotlk, we had to heavily rebuild the roster, and things did not go very smoothly. Being an officer in this period was quite different to just raiding, and I found that I stopped enjoying the game. It was a very hard decision for me, and I decided to step down and leave the guild and join Despair.
Despair - I spent a few months in Despair, and left to raid with friends in Stelth Kilers.
Stelth Kilers - I spent a few months in SK, making great progress, after which I decided to take a break from the game.

MoP: Warlock main (named Redcloak)
Kyphosis - As a social. I came back very late into SOO progression, and played catch up with pugs, up to moderate HC progression.

WoD: Hunter main (named Zimbo)
BloodRain - A social guild of old core members of Bloodreign. No raiding is planned for the future, so I am searching for a new home.

Availability:

My work load is very flexible. While I wish to have only a couple of days per week devoted to WoW set in stone, I am often available every day. Additionally, whichever those days are is entirely flexible.

Communication:

I speak English fluently, and have TS. I know how to listen, and I have a microphone, and am not afraid to use it :)

Computer / Connection:

I have an i7/GTX780 rig, and have no problems playing on Ultra. That said, if I dip below 60 fps, I will lower the settings.

I have a stable connection, no disconnects or lag problems.

Addons/UI:

I use Weak Auras 2, Bartender, Shadowed Unit Frames, Quartz, Tidy Plates and BigWigs. I will go back to using TellMeWhen once I get an ICD trinket.

the SS: http://i.imgur.com/ssWosFT.jpg

I use (http://www.razerzone.com/gaming-keyboards-keypads/razer-orbweaver), and used the n52TE before that for many years. This lets me have every combat ability on my bars easily accessible, and is why 'wasd' are bound to abilities.

Other Games:

I don't play other online games, though I do enjoy Bioware RPGs, and Magic:The Gathering.

Why Iron Edge?

I was not active during the time you have been prominent on Kazzak, so I cannot say I know many of you personally. That said, you had impressive progress considering the raiding days, and skillful raiding on two days a week is exactly what I am looking for.

You have been around and stable since Vanilla, which is a huge plus. Also "you need to not be an asshat" :)

What can I offer Iron Edge?

I have raided in hardcore environments before and loved every moment of it. I know when it's time to put your "game face" on and constantly improve inch by inch until a kill is achieved.

I enjoy optimizing my character and my play, both in general and encounter specific. I make sure I do 100% of what I can to be prepared for a pull before I ever set foot in the instance. I watch encounter videos, read articles, and frequent theorycrafting forums.

Where did I hear about Iron Edge?

I saw your page on WoWProgress

Last Words?

I consider myself a mature, passionate and dedicated raider. While I don't think great dps is what should concern me (that would be doing very good dps while minimizing mistakes), I have had several world top 10 results in on my DK.

I am the type of player who loves to ask himself "why", "why did I take damage there?", "why is he beating me on damage?", "why did we wipe just now?". While I don't agree with every sentence, I think (http://iam.yellingontheinternet.com/2014/01/29/raid-awareness-is-a-learned-and-practiced-skill/) is the greatest raiding article ever written :)

I also enjoy messing around with alts and old content, I spent a few hours at ilvl ~545 soloing alone in the darkness pre 6.0, and it was one of the most fun rewarding experiences I've had in the game. I love the intensity of progress raiding, but messing around and joking with friends is one of the best things this game has to offer.

Lastly, I am hungry for progress and quality raiding, and I am looking for a long term home. I hope we fit together great! :)

Adding since it looks like it didn't send it from the form

Class:
Can you show us that you understand your class? What stats do you go for with your spec? What rotation/priority system do you use?

For MM hunters the rotation changes according to Careful Aim (when target hp is > 80%, or Rapid Fire is active)

1) Careful Aim:
Kill Shot
Chimera Shot
Glaive Toss/Barrage (only if multiple targets exist)
Aimed Shot
Steady Shot

2) No Careful Aim:
Kill Shot
Chimera Shot
A Murder of Crows
Glaive Toss/Barrage
Aimed Shot
Steady Shot

I will also Steady Shot over Aimed shot as long as long as it won't cap focus, if abilities are coming off CD, both to make sure I have enough focus to hit said abilities, and to time it so that I finish a shot as close as possible to the abilities becoming ready.

I very much like this application.

We're pretty full on hunters but I think we can make an exception.

I'll make sure our dps officers take a look as soon as possible.

Hey man, quite a few of the officers are blown away with this application, including myself; it's well written with a lot of great detail added which shows competency and knowledge of your class. That being said at this moment in time I regret to inform you that I just cannot take on another Hunter.

I can tell you, however, that should you desire to still be a part of the guild I can gladly offer you a social rank but this is in no way a stepping stone towards becoming a raider and it does not mean you are guaranteed a raider slot in the future as they are mutually exclusive ranks.

Let me know with what you decide.

Hi, thank you for the replies, and the offer of social rank. Unfortunately I have my heart set on raiding, so it seems I will have to look elsewhere. good luck!

It's really too bad :( I'll add you to my friendlist and let you know if anything changes on our end.

Good luck finding a guild that you can raid with!
