Hmm, did someone get Rage to work on an AMD card?
I get 10 sec freezes every 5 secs on my Radeon 6850. Tried the new "rage performance drivers", same shit. Fail!
-
You should ask yoica or hugman, they seem to know stuff about rage

I'm reading some review on Ars atm -- doesn't sound very positive so far :P

Try this Goza!

all i heard was
engine good
game bad
-
I already tried those drivers, didn't fix anything.
And yes, game is prob nothing out of the ordinary, but its shiny!
On nVidia cards.
-
oy loik shiny bitz

Check this:

Seen that too.

Had same 10 sec freezes as you (also using ATI), what "helped" was disabling catalyst AI (used rage performance fix drivers). This got rid of freezes, but caused massive texture problems. Maybe in some version of drivers on some rare machines this game is looking/running well. Not in my case. Witcher 2 problems at relase, Dead Island problems at relase, now this. I aint happy. And considering Bethesda aproach to relasing games (fallout 3, fallout NV, now this) im not even sure if i look forward to Skyrim. Maybe 2 months after relase game will be playable.
-
Ok, i've managed to make this game run smooth and look decently.
http://forums.bethsoft.com/index.php?/topic/1237804-i-got-my-copy-working-very-well-with-dual-amd-6870/
Follow this (i skipped the part about windows something uninstaler blablabal i dont think this is needed with how catalyst uninstall works those days), and i think most crucial is adding that
Now we go into our Steam game library and right click Rage and click properties. Click on "Set Launch Options" and copy and paste the following into it.
+r_swapInterval 1 +vt_maxPPF 16 +vt_pageImageSizeUnique 8192 +vt_pageImageSizeUniqueDiffuseOnly 8192 +vt_pageImageSizeUniqueDiffuseOnly2 8192

Cool, will try this after work. I followed a similar guide yesterday that had less driver settings and more rageconfig settings, but that didn't help.
I like how the game is apparently unable to create it's own cache folder under C:\User\AppData\Local. I did that too and once it's user-created, that dir gets filled with a 1GB file. Wtf.

Yeah, noticed that too. Also, the fix i've found didnt fixed slow textures loading... it's way better then it was with catalyst AI disabled but still somewhat... disapointing. What a mess of a game.
-
Btw which card/chip (as in 6850 etc) do you have?
-
Ohh, i wish i had 6850. Using 2 or 3 years old Radeon HD 4850.
EDIT:I think problems with this game will be solved when ATI finally relase some driver that works as it should, like i told perfomance wise after applying those band aid fixes its uber smooth, 30+ fps for sure (maybe even 60). Just the textures loading... disabling catalyst AI solves problems with texture loading but creates artifacts.
-
Game seems to be running fine in the room you start in. Noticing a lot of tearing, though. Will try some stuff.
(6870)
-
Had a few crash issues on the 6870. These seem to be fixed using the following driver:
http://support.amd.com/us/kbarticles/Pages/GPU122AMDCat1110PreDriverV2.aspx
Had the following graphical error with 11.8's and the rage performance driver:
Also seems fixed with the above driver.
-
Is it any good? Saw it for 30 pounds in Sainsbury
-
Lol, it's still not running on my system with any of those drivers/settings.
Maybe it's not only the AMD card but also the CPU. Got a Core Duo E8500, according to some Bethesda forum thread Duo+AMD card seems to be the worst case scenario for Rage.
-
Did you do the pff setting for dual cores?
-
Uh, the +vt_maxPPF stuff? Yeah. Guess I'll just wait for a game update.
-
id software released Rage Update 1:
- If you have an AMD graphics card with a dual core CPU system you may
experience severe hitching and low frame rates. This has been
identified as a driver problem. We are actively working with AMD on
a solution to this problem. As a temporary workaround you may add the
following to the RAGE launch options in Steam:
+jobs_numThreads 0
Fixes my stutter/freeze problem, but game runs like shit. So waiting for that new AMD driver.
-
it should be -1 in not 0.
ULTIMATE FIX!
1 Step: Download and Install new ATI (AMD) driver: AMD Catalyst? 11.10 Version 2 Preview Driver
Bookmark this Site "You have to Restart ;)"
2 Step: Enable the A.I. in Catalyst
3 Step: Setting Game Launch Options in "Steam":
- Right-click on the game title under the Library in Steam and select Properties.
- Under the General tab click the Set launch options... button.
- Enter the launch options
+cvaradd jobs_numThreads -1 +com_skipIntroVideo 1 +set com_allowconsole 1 +vt_maxPPF 8 and click OK.
- Close the game's Properties window.
4 Step: Create rageConfig.cfg:
- HOWTO: To use the file copy the code below and put it into a new text file named "rageConfig.cfg" in these Locations:
- For Single-Player - "Steam\steamapps\common\rage\base"
- For Multi-Player - "Steam\steamapps\common\rage\mp\base"
- The first line "1024" is for ATICards with 1GB Ram if your Card has 512kb change to "512" or "..."like ram.
seta com_videoRam "1024"
seta image_anisotropy "4"
seta image_usecompression "0"
seta image_lodbias "-1"
seta image_useCache "1"
seta image_cacheMegs "200"
seta image_cacheMinK "50"
seta m_smooth "0"
seta vt_pageimagesizeuniquediffuseonly2 "8192"
seta vt_pageimagesizeuniquediffuseonly "8192"
seta vt_pageimagesizeunique "8192"
seta vt_maxPPF "8"
seta vt_lodBias "-1"
seta vt_minlod "-1"
seta vt_maxaniso "2"
Save the .cfg
And Start the Game in Steam.
Now, what this did to Rage and my 3 years old computer.
60 FPS IN 1900x1024 RESOLUTION WITH NO TEXTURE ISSUES AND NO STUTTERING AND BASICLY MAX DETAILS.
Link to orginal thread - http://forums.bethsoft.com/index.php?/topic/1239310-ati-hd-4980-or-4xxx-and-intel-core2duo-c2d-fix/ (http://forums.bethsoft.com/index.php?/topic/1239310-ati-hd-4980-or-4xxx-and-intel-core2duo-c2d-fix/)
I did it on patched version of Rage, dont know if it works without patch. Only thing i had to change was disabling adaptive antyalasing, as it was causing game to run slow as hell (ss of my catalyst settings) http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/810/sdsdsh.jpg/
-
Is that first line regarding the video ram needed for nvidia cards?
i have a 560 ti and i get the thing where textures unload when u look away from them and then pop in when you look back. I did the config file with these so far after reading some threads:
seta vt_pageimagesizeuniquediffuseonly2 "8192"
seta vt_pageimagesizeuniquediffuseonly "8192"
seta vt_pageimagesizeunique "8192"
seta vt_maxPPF "8"
seta vt_lodBias "-1"
seta vt_minlod "-1"
seta vt_maxaniso "2"
-
Im not sure Sint, i doubt it would do any harm to put it. If you really need vt_maxpPPF "8" command (its for dual core cpu's) put it not only cfg but also in launch command for game.
http://forums.bethsoft.com/index.php?/topic/1238149-rage-cfg-maker/
In my oppinion just try to use that tool?
-
OK, got it running with Narw's Ultimate Fix post. Had no gfx issues for 2h, smooth framerates, but now I occasionally get some flicker bugs when racing (strangely, the first 5 races were OK). Well, shrug, no biggie.
Odd thou for an id game - I'm constantly out of ammo...
The hardest part of Mutant Bash TV was conserving enough ammo. Meh! Guess I gotta buy some.
-
How can u be out of ammo? Only place I ran out was the mutant bash... and that was just with 1 gun. Still had 4-5 guns with ammo left.
-
I... shoot mutants!
Dunno, so far I was always short on ammo, ran out on Mutant Bash and had to go Melee. I assume the game expects you to stock up in shops.
-
So much trouble to play a silly game. Makes you want to delete the game and play something else.
But how would you rate the game so far? I should be able to run it without problems on Nvidia card with i7 so it might be worth a shot.
-
The game has a few problems. It's pretty short. It needs a map (damn them for not including a map.) It has controls designed for consoles. It uses the same levels for 2-3 quests. However, it's quite fun in short doses. I like the driving!
-
I would give it hmm, 6,5/10. Definitly wasnt worth putting the effort into making it playable. Still, im big fan of post apocalyptic stuff so will prolly finish it.
-
OK, regarding the ammo problem, now I noticed I can buy&carry truckloads of ammo from the vendor.
Regarding the game Inphy, I wouldn't buy it.
- At least on PC, I don't see the engine being the Next Big Thing. Seems Carmack went a bit into the wrong direction. So the artists are able to directly paint the world, so no texture ever gets repeated. Thing is, with most modern games, you don't really notice repeating textures anyway, due to texture overlaying/decals etc. Apparently internally id software worked with Terabytes of textures. For release they had to scale it down to 3 DVDs, thus now we have a product where everything is pretty from a distance and mushy closeup, cause there are no detail textures.
- The world is completely static: You can shoot certain objects (destructable crates etc), but 99% is a fixed world mesh. This applies to stuff like chairs, couches, tables, vases. Shoot a vase on a table, nothing happens.
- The world lighting is completely static/prebaked. There seems to be no dynamic lighting of the world mesh at all, apart from some basic flicker fx (torches etc). Shoot a light, the light does not move nor cast any moving dynamic shadows. This is something their previous engine introduced (Doom 3) which is now completely missing. Wtf. Only character models are dynamically lit.
- I'm not sure the engine running at 60 FPS instead of 30 makes such a big difference. Especially in a single player game (no deathmatch) and with mouse controls being very wacky on my system: Mouse movement is very "jittering" and creates some screen-tearing like effect, even with mouse smooth option on. Problem doesn't exist when using a gamepad, but that doesn't really take advantage of 60 FPS responsiveness.
- Gamepad controls: I can only select 4 weapons without pausing the game and using the inventory? Why didn't they use a bigger weapon selection wheel like Ratchet&Clank or Deus Ex:HR? Same with secondary weapons. Due to controls, bandages are pretty useless, because unless you have them preselected (digital stick), you're never gonna select+use them in time during combat.
- Combat: Suffers from Enemy-have-bullet-weapons syndrome. Enemies either instant hit you or not, typical problem with games where enemies have bullet firearms. You can't evade a bullet. Makes for lame combat cause it's basically kill-them-faster-than-they-kill-you.
- Crafting system/inventory: Yeah awesome, so instead of directly placing items like secret-door-openers in the the world, they place 3 components from which I can create that item myself. Whoa - DEEP!
- Driving: Meh, that feels like some quake mod (low quality). Between-mission vehicle combat boils down to Stop & Turn towards enemy & Blast him with rocket launcher & Be done.
- Level design: That once was - right next to tech - one of id's strengths. So far I have not seen a single interesting set piece in Rage. The first 4h have been tons of samey enemies in pretty but gameplay-dull corridors. Yeah, this ain't Half-Life.
TL;DR: A pretty but simple shooter, and 6 years of development don't show. Compared to today's other AAA games, nothing out of the ordinary.
-
To fix the screen tearing, you need to turn vsync on.
-
played for like 5 hours now.. i like the game overall, the only thing i can say i dislike for now is how the mobs die, sometimes when i head shot the damn thing doesnt die -_- but thats all, racing is nice and fun actually reminded me kinda of Death Race when i saw the "Weapons Offline" thing so i had fun clearing all the races in Wellspring :D
-
Only problem with the racing is that it's FAR too easy. Especially the rocket races. You can just get so far ahead of the other cars that they can't fire their rockets at you...
-
thats.. quite true, one race i started killing the dude that was last lol xD
-
Am also 5 hours into the game now.. I've completed the races in the first town, and TTaM is correct in that it's too easy. I think I had to try twice on _one_ of the races, the rest were oneshots.
I've also noticed that the monster hitbox isn't all that realistic.. a shot to the head does in many cases not seem to have increased impact, which is bad.
Other than that, I'm liking the game a lot, and loving that it runs so smoothly on my partially outdated system. It seems to have some sort of option that blurs everything around you in the directions you are not looking, which eases the load quite a bit. Ofcourse it takes a while for it to un-blur when you turn around, but I'd trade that for performance anyday.
Also, I have now realised that terrifying mutants are not my favourite kind of mutants :(
-
I like the card game, too.
-
Just completed the game, and I must say it's way too short for its type of game. I was expecting a lot more story for my money, but it took me about 9-10 hours to complete the game with gold medal on all races, more cash than I could spend and enough firepower to bring down a death star..
It had a feel to it of Borderlands mixed with Fallout: New Vegas, but lacking in just about every aspect apart from performance. No RPG-elements, too generic levels in which you'd never stop and think where you had to go, very little free-roaming, even though it was an open world.. Generally I'd say it's not worth the buy for the above mentioned reasons, along with Multiplayer being a little meh.
-
Finally finished the game, and it's bullshit. Got worse the longer I played it because the hope that it would finally improve died. It's the same crap from start to beginning.
UI is shit. The whole game has 2 enemy types (in-your-face-melees and hide-behind-crate-ranged). Almost every gadget is useless. Inventory/economy system isn't balanced. Level design is boring. The stuff NPCs say is moronic bordering to insulting and contradicting.
