Didn't see it anywhere yet so I'll just leave this here..
3rd quarter reference in the earning's call today was a calendar quarter, meaning that we're aiming to launch the Diablo III beta between July 1st and September 30th. Keep in mind that it's our current goal, and of course that can change as development continues.
http://forums.battle.net/thread.html?topicId=27808130648&pageNo=1&sid=3000#9
Would also like to mention that the leaked blizzard product slate (http://i.imgur.com/3QwOX.jpg) has been fairly accurate so far, so it looks like we got a good idea about when stuff is coming!

-
I will wait for the release of the original. Don't want to hate like i did in sc2 Beta xD
-
Blizz contact says they haven't heard anything about D3 internally (it's probably very tightly compartmentalized to prevent leaks), but he'll try to grab some keys if they become available.
-
I guess we will hear a lot more on Aug 1st after the NDA is lifted.
-
I can't wait to play D3. Hopefully it will be as a good or even better than D2. But blizzard never seems to disappoint!
-
Seems D3 also gets an AH option to sell/buy items for real money.
-
I will actually sell one of my kidneys to get a key for this
-
I think I will have to be unemployed for 4 months when this gets installed....
-
Seems D3 also gets an AH option to sell/buy items for real money.
source?
-
If that is true , then isn't that just blizzard getting ahead of the obvious bots that will appear. I mean if your game is gonna get corrupted anyway then you may aswell make money out of it.
-
Seems D3 also gets an AH option to sell/buy items for real money.
source?
Its on MMO champion
Edit: FUCKING KAGEMOOOTH THE LURKING PEDO.
-
Woah.
The gold using ah will be empty lol... no one, or very, very few, will sell XYZ Axe of the ABC for gold instead of actual money.
-
Hmm.. though i never understood why. It removes the entire fun of making a char. I think EQ had a d2 bot running like everyday , if i remember correctly. Never understood why :D
-
Woah.
The gold using ah will be empty lol... no one, or very, very few, will sell XYZ Axe of the ABC for gold instead of actual money.
Why? There are plenty of people in wow who pay for gold to buy things. Why not cut out the middle-man?
-
Well the biggest fear i have is that the real usefull items will mostly/only be available on the real money AH.
Beside i know how few spare game hours i have nowadays, combine that with that WOW made sure i will never ever farm mindless hours for purple pixels again and you have a real money goldmine for blizz. (But this idea probably came out of Activisions high hat.)
-
Not quite sure what my feelings on the real money AH is, certainly didn't expect this from Blizzard, but I should have known better. I fear, like Kawe, that this will have quite a negative effect on the normal AH. Will the ability to make real money from the game have more of a focus than playing the game itself. I guess we will see how it plays out in the beta.
-
The biggest questions are;
1. You need to pay a fee to place an auction, how much will this end up being? Auctions that don't sell will actually cost you money, but how much?
2. What is the AH cut for sold items?
3. What is the fee for the 3rd party that actually does the money transfering?
-
There is another fee for actually cashing out too.
-
Isn't that the 3rd point I made?
-
I kinda feel like this has ruined the fun of the game for me on some levels, I'll still play it, and hopefully make a few bucks, but something died inside me.
-
I was extremely convinced that Blizzard wouldn't allow a game to get ruined by this, so I figured the same system would apply like in WoW. Special silly mounts and pets cost real money, but the actual game remains untouched.
Now that they're turning the Battle.net Cross-realm party thing into a paid service, I'm not so sure about this anymore.
-
You'd think they would be happy with the huge amount they make from subscriptions, let alone random vanity shit.
The day blizzard starts selling epics and the like for money (and i can see it happening), i'm out.
-
I kinda feel like this has ruined the fun of the game for me on some levels, I'll still play it, and hopefully make a few bucks, but something died inside me.
I had the same reaction initially, but not anymore. I've never done a lot of item trading D2 or if I did it was with ppl I know. In the worst case I'll never interact with the RL money AH and therefore doesn't affect my game play. In the best case, depending on it works, I make RL money from it.
In the end, it isn't going to influence how I play the game.
-
I think a couple of people commenting on this havent played d2 or at least dont remember the trading system that well.
Back in d2, the best items you could get, namely the 2 rune words that i forget the name of, one would give you the sorcs teleport ability, the other would let you do the babarians buffs on urself. Along with items such as Stone of jordan and The Grandfather amongst others.
The drop rate on the runes required, and the drop rate on the two items i named, as an example, were absolutely and utterly ludicrous, making them near impossible to get.
I saw 1 person with the grandfather in the ENTIRE time i played d2, which was for like 6 years.
What happened as the game grew and the expansion came out is that stones of jordan, a ring that gave you resistances to all schools of magic, became the trading tool of choice, that being said, u cld basically trade 1 stone of jordan for 1 of any item you wanted (barring the grandfather, the rarest item in the game, twas a beastly sword)
Even as this became the standard there was still a massive shortage of these items, there was no way a player could just farm for one.
So, the reason i've written this, is to point out that if blizz intend on having as big a loot table as they did in d2 (the biggest loot table of any rpg ever) then the rarest of items, the ones everyone will want, will not be sold on the AH, ever. If they are it wont be for a long time after the game is released and they'll be ridiculously expensive. I think they're implementing this AH system so that people can pick up and play the game to an adequate level, fairly quickly/make new chars without having to start from scratch again.
In d2 they added special "hell zones" that required you to farm 9 keys, kill 4 uber bosses (they were actually called ubers), when u did all of that u'd get a charm called a torch, best charm in game, but with random numbers for all of its stats (always the same type of stat, but random in its value) going all the way up to perfect torches which were monumentally expensive to just buy.
Killing these uber bosses took stupid gear, me and bison managed to kill _one_ of them after we had made near perfect chars, which took us months.
Again, I really dont think ur gonna find stupidly incredible items on the AH, if they did it would kill the game, and knowing blizz, who dont make decisions lightly, they've almost certainly thought of this.
-
re: paying for stuff -- people will pay, as long as it's worth it (and Blizzard stuff generally is).
I just compare the amount of money I spend on WoW compared to other stuff -- and then think about how many hours of fun I get out of it.
-
Yea i remember how ridiculous the drop rate was, i used to spend weeks doing things like meph runs. Ended up with a breath of the dying (ultimate 2h rune weapon) for my barb, and eventually the teleport armour, made me godlike in pvp.
All the hacking got to me in the end though, hoping it will be better this time, blizzard's security has come a long way since then.
-
I'm totally fine with the RL money AH model
-
Ye, you couldnt play on open battle.net _at all_ cos of hacking, meaning u cldnt play ur single player char online, twas no big deal tho cos u cld play ur multiplayer chars on ur own anyway, meant u cldnt power level them on ur own though (aka setting players to 8 in sp, so monsters were really tough and gave more xp)
The only other major hack you might remember was soon after the expansion was released and people figured out how duplicated items (forcing server lag, dropping an item on the ground, leave the server, re-enter the server and u'd have ur item back in ur inventory, but it wld still be lying on the ground as well)
This flooded the market with SOJ's for a while, one of my mates made an entire accound (that means 8 chars all full of SOJ's - a lot of fucking soj's (stones of jordan))
They then fixed it and implemented an anti dupe thing, that would somehow detect dupes and delete them, but it wasnt perfect, it deleted a lot of proper items!
I remember i found a pair of yellow assassin gloves with the perfect +skills that i wanted (was a martial arts sin, not a faggy trap sin)and they got deleted because of the dupe thing like 2 weeks later. Sad panda.
Only other hack was maphacking, which was actually necessary to the game in the end, the one flaw of d2. All it did was let u see the total area of the map for any given area, so you could actually navigate.
I had two accounts (meaning i had to buy the game 3 times in total) banned cos of maphacking, but it was totally retarded trying to play without it.
If anyone remembers doing act 3 with no maphack u'll kno what i'm on about.
-
Actually yea i used maphack as well, it was a bit retarded without it. And fuuuuuu i loved my trap sin, got her to like lvl 85 on hardcore, then died a stupid death and raged for a week.
-
Trapsins were so boring tho -.-
Place traps, run away, wait a while, gg
If i can get time off work i'm considering rushing for ladder position btw if anyone wants to join - assuming they put the ladders back in - assuming i decide to not take the game slowly first time thru to enjoy it.
-
Yea i might be up for that, benny might be as well if he hasnt got loads of work on.
-
One other side-effect that occured to me was that it will definitely dilute the joy of finding the mega-est supercrazyhyperrareUBERITEMOFDOOM when you then sit and think, well, I could use this amazing item for my character, but it'll be worth a bundle on the auction house...
This especially is something that I think is a sad thing for the game.
Regarding auction house cuts and so on - well, that's just standard cynical money making. But the requirement of a fee of real money to list, and to 'cash out' (which I assume means get the money you've sold something for which is then held hostage to... a fee) is somehow repugnant to me. I would imagine players selling desirable (read: expensive) things would, infact, wish to circumvent these - or hike up the price. I imagine Blizzard is hoping most players will settle for the latter based on the convenience.
Seriously though, that which I mentioned first is the thing which stands out as a problem to me, as it can't be avoided that it will for some people detract from the game as it was intended to be played.
-
Indeed, good point. I wonder if they'll make it so you can sell literally everything on the AH or just common stuff or whatever. It'll probs be everything but i'd like some restriction
-
My impression is actually that there'd be no restrictions, however the fact of there being a listing fee and a cashing out fee AND an AH cut combined with large supply mean that common items would largely not be worth trying to list, as you'd likely just end up paying Blizzard for nothing when it doesn't sell. As such, rare items will probably be the main thing to see on the RM AH.
-
I think there'll be everything on the for-money AH.
This is the ideal way for Blizzard to combat gold selling -- just like Eve making game cards available for in-game credits, or the Sony way of selling 'official' in-game gold for real money.
It's one of the biggest problems that MMOs face -- how to officially and tidily handle gold selling.
-
Yea i might be up for that, benny might be as well if he hasnt got loads of work on.
Crazybob the sword baba is returning for latter spot!
-
Back in d2, the best items you could get, namely the 2 rune words that i forget the name of, one would give you the sorcs teleport ability, the other would let you do the babarians buffs on urself.
That would be Enigma (Chest) and Call to Arms (CTA, flail).
-
teleporting ww baba !!! AHHHHH :D so pro .. and a ethril grandfather sword with ith rune!

I hate how its impossible to easily see how good a processor is without knowing all the naming schemes.
Pentium D 2.8 ghz
Intel Core 2 Duo 2.4 Ghz
Intel Core i3,i5,i7 etc. and depending on the versions of them i3 might even be better than i5 in some cases -.-

Also depending on if you got a sandy bridge iX CPU or not

It'll probably run fine on low settings on some soggy cardboard box with a grumpy 50 year old cat living in it.

Tallent callculater is out.. looks fucking compplacated as hell !! good luck finding the ultimate spec!

Exactly what i like (<3 Rift)
-
so you know you can enhance the skills with 5 different runes (can only use one) that are next to the skill and you have 3 passives that you didnt take
anyway depends on when this game comes out but i will probably be playing it as a demon hunter or monk

Haha easy, 1 point in every talent and then 20 points in BASH!
-
Na I assigned all the runes and passives, life leach, extra crit for overpower and any DMV buff basically . And yes matt Crazybob with 20 points in bash!!! Couldn't kill anything an act4 nightmare whel throne of Baal came out lol!!
-
My melee wizard is going to be awesome.
Yes, that's the character I'll play, a melee wizard.
-
I was thinking the same! good choice Palmar!

Heh, I remember when i first played Diablo 2, chose a necromancer, spent all of my talent points on massively upgrading my skellies, they steam rolled through most of the game, got to diablo, and he causally did a ring of fire and one shotted them. Left me with no corpses to raise, and I had to spend ages wittling him down with my basic level bone spear/dying/rezing and running back.
2nd time round I went with a ninja, and went though the game like a hot knife through butter.
Witchdoctor looks good to me!
-
Barbarian. Whirlwind ALL the things!
-
With two rings of life any mana leach of course. Don't want to run out of mana in the middle of 30mobs (cow level!)
-
Dodgemonk debuffer looks trollicious.
But debuff/buff monk also looks fantasticly fun.
Gosh.
How do I choose?
-
You know, i just realised... i can't wait for d3!!!! ;D
-
i figured i'd do a demon hunter with lots of movement stuff you know backflips vaults and shit
you can respec in this game cant you?
EDIT: anyway i was dicking around with the calculator and i think having a demon hunter with lots of slows and movement seems like hella fun... oh and rockets
http://us.battle.net/d3/en/calculator/demon-hunter#cYadjQ!cZg!ccZYYc (http://us.battle.net/d3/en/calculator/demon-hunter#cYadjQ!cZg!ccZYYc)
-
I sure as hell hope so... But it would be very very weird for Blizzard to not add that functionality to the game.
-
I thought one of the big lessons they said they learned is that respeccing is good? :)
-
how do you know if you have a beta invite?
-
Your email will tell you, and if you are afraid its phising, check your games under battle.net, it will show up there.
-
they added respeccing in d2 so would expect it in d3
