Title: HoN currently not available
Post by: Gozhell on May 26, 2011, 12:33:16 am
If you have been living under a rock or simply haven't given a shit or been to lazy to check out their forums but still wonder why HoN isn't working, here's a possible explanation:

Servers have been going up and down for a couple of days now, hopefully they will implement that damn flag and we can all live happily ever after! God knows if it's actually them but this video was released shortly before the DDOS attacks so... :p

They released a 6MB update, seems to have fixed most of the login and authentication problems at least! MM is now down by choice of S2, maybe they've realised that the "partially functioning" service was in fact not functioning at all :P

From S2 -

On a more positive note, we have confirmed the identity of the individual responsible for the criminal acts causing HoN's downtime. Even better news is the UK government takes these matters VERY seriously http://www.met.police.uk/pceu/ 10 years in prison for a "flag in a video game" seems pretty silly to me!

Public is... sort of working, MMR is still down for a while.

Very informative thread on the DDoS attacks, background and handling by S2.. Seems like the only thing S2 did wrong was not implementing tools to mitigate DDoS attacks back when the game went retail..

They also mishandled the communication with the community, but otherwise they managed the DDoS attacks quite well..

Interesting to see that these 3 people before they got banned, actually managed to DDoS the specific servers they were on to stop stat submission. Wish I knew more about internet crime so I could fix my KDR :(
