Title: Deathy! A mafia style mini-game.
Post by: Palmar on November 28, 2011, 02:40:02 pm
Deathy is a very specific mafia setup, but the game plays out slightly differently than normal mafia games. It's less about behavior, roleplaying and analysis, and much more about using logic to determine who is scum.

The setup is as follows:

1 Sane Cop
1 Insane Cop
1 Naive Cop
1 Paranoid Cop
1 Mafia Goon

About cop sanities:

The game starts at night 0. Everyone sends in their investigations for the night, and then it's up to the players to play out day 1. Voting to lynch is done as in a normal game of mafia.

The sanity of cops who die, is not revealed. Mafia scum has 1 KP, but he doesn't get to shoot until night 1 (ie: he can't shoot night 0).

No lynching is cool in this game, you just vote for no lynch.

The day ends as soon as one person has majority votes on them, or there is a majority for a no lynch. and the night ends as soon as all players have turned in their results. The deadline is going to be 24 hours, but a game can be played from start to finish in only a few hours.

Vote using the format

##Vote: playername

or

##Vote: No Lynch

Where you have to ask what would the other guy tell you?

Yeah, where one always lies, and one always tells the truth.

(I was forced to watch it at university -- it was my flatmate's favourite movie... I did not like it much...)

Yeah, I'll do a bigger one in december, but there doesn't seem to be much interest in mafia, at the moment.

Delling, it's somewhat similar.

Day ends when someone has a majority -  as in, once everyone has voted and someone has a majority? Or just as soon as someone gets 2 votes?

A majority would be 3 votes.

Why did you get yourself modkilled on TL?

Honestly, The first game day was fine, as my team mate was there, and we discussed, tactics and posted regularly.

However, then he disappeared for two days with no word, leaving me to do all the posts, which because I was new to the forums, kept being ignored. This infuriated me to no end, as they were waiting for "TEAM GM" to post, ie him not me, and when I did post it was ignored by everyone excepting Chaoser, who took all my posts as clear indication I was red. What was the point in posting, if the other players felt that your posts were worthless, ignoring your posts, and assuming that the other guy in the team was the one doing the valid posts.

He then returned on the forth day, and fake claimed a blue role we knew another definitely was, without giving me any indication of why, or warning about it, and then disappeared again for the next 5 hours. This left me in the difficult situation of if I should post about this medic claim or not. I felt that if I posted in support of this medic claim, it would just look really scummy, as I knew it wasn't true, and would just look like I was just doing filler posts (which frankly at that point was true, as I didn't know why he claimed). So I decided to lay low for a few hours and hope my team mate came back to explain what the fuck he was doing, and then post once I know what the plan was.

Of course, at this point, the stroppy Icelandic mod, feeling the need to make an example of people not posting, and being afk, decided that this Crofty guy, having not posted for half a day, was a perfect scapegoat, and mod killed me. This was dispute the fact, that there were players on other teams, which had been afk and not posted for over 3 days, which he had chosen to ignore. I am sure it made perfect sense to him, but to me it was just silly, and random.

In short, this two player to a team thing didn't work very well.

That sums it up.

You always have to deal with meta on TL hugman. If you want to be listened to, you have to earn it.

The activity rules clearly stated you must post every day/night cycle. That means you have to post once during day1/night1 and once day2/night2. You failed at one of the cycles, no one else did, even though their afk stints may have been longer.

And yes, the doubleheaded games are a bitch to deal with.

Well as soon as the majority of the living players have voted for one person. that means day 1 ends as soon as someone has 3 votes against him.

I understood that, but like I said, since I was new, and GM was a veteran of many games with these guys, most of them didn't even bother to look or respond to my posts, instead waiting to see what GM would post. Which meant I had basically no effect on the game, and couldn't "earn it", as you put it. This was incredibly frustrating, and gave up posting until GM resurfaced, hoping we could actually work as a team.

Obviously had this not been a two-headed game, this wouldn't have been an issue, which is unfortunate.

The activity rules clearly stated you must post every day/night cycle. That means you have to post once during day1/night1 and once day2/night2. You failed at one of the cycles, no one else did, even though their afk stints may have been longer.

Ok that makes a bit more sense, as I was confused as to why I got mod killed, while the others didn't. Fair enough.

People know I pointed you towards TL mafia, the last thing I wanted to do was to modkill you, that looks bad for me :)

And yes, you can earn it. There are many, many newbies who impress with their first posts. Just be aggressive, show logic and help town. Make judgement calls etc.

Also, play Dethy.
