Dem videos (and how to avoid that fugly black frame)
« on: May 21, 2007, 06:03:46 pm »
I noticed that dookie's hydross movie was letterboxed (as well as only uploaded as livestream material O:), and I for one think letterboxed videos are painful to watch.

So, in order to prevent this issue from occurring in future killvideos, (unless you want it to be in a widescreen format) I made a quick guide (with dem picturez and dem textz) on how to avoid it.

Yeah, I have a norwegian version of windows, bear with me.

STEP ONE
Right clicking on the file and selecting properties.

STEP TWO
Getting to the "summary" screen.

STEP THREE-ZERO

STEP THREE-ONE
Memorizing the pixel values.

If you use sony vegas for editing and rendering, the next steps explains how to do it in it. If you use another videoediting software then the next steps may not help you that much. Not having used anything but Vegas myself I don't really know how to do it in any other programs, but I'm guessing it's more or less the same (project property settings).

STEP FIVE
Opening project properties, the button is located in the top-left corner of the moviepreview window. If you don't have one of those click File --> Properties...

STEP SIX

Now, when using vegas the settings will most likely vary depending on the rendering method you use, so make sure you double-check before rendering.

Just want to add that you don't want to output at 1280*1024...

You just want to output at the same ratio - 4:3.

720 * 576 is quite a nice resolution, but will still result in very big files. I think 512 * 384 is the one below that which is often used, and is still very close to 4:3.
Now I run a tech website.

Can this be stickied somewhere on our forums? It's a handy little guide...

btw. there is no reason to turn on interlacing. since it is progressive scan.

Deinterlacing is used if the videomaterial is from a source using interlacing ex. tv or a videocamera.

Bears like alts!
