Overheating... kills.
« on: July 31, 2013, 07:47:08 pm »
Hello! For the past 2 days, when the heat reached 39 degrees here, my GPU has pretty much gone into kamikazee mode.

I've got a nVidia GTS 450, on a i5-2400 CPU @ 3.10Ghz 3.10Ghz.
Added an extra fan. Right above the video card. Installed MSI Afterburner and raised my fan speed by 100%. I held my hand close to the card's cooler, it is an increase. But not too much of an increase.
Still, i'm keeping Everest open and i see my GPU going around 62-65 degrees. And that's while just roaming around Orgrimmar.

ANY KIND of help regarding this would be appreciated.

Thank you.

well you could take the card apart and replace the thermalpaste on the GPU.. How long have you had the PC/graphics card?

Also your card should be alright as long as it's below 90 degrees, but I wouldn't be comfortable with that either :P

Is it actually causing you any issues? 65 isn't out of this world hot for a gpu

if its not causing any issue's i wouldn't worry about it. You're much more likely to damage something opening the card than you are to damage it due to that heat!

Amen to that! I'm just scared. Really don't wanna fuck it up. And i want it to last at least another 3 months so i can afford a new one.

65 is more than fine. My 4850 ran on 100 degrees for 4 years. If it stays below 80 in these hot conditions I wouldn't worry.

I game on a laptop,  getting that low temperatures is impossible for me.  I'm always 70+ while gaming.
