Nah, that's just a common misconception, that we're 'destroying' our language (every writer before us, even Shakespeare, thought that we were destroying our language).

We're just changing it.

It can be said that our language is perhaps becoming less expressive -- we don't have 9 end-cases like the Latins, for example -- but we also have lots of new words and constructs that they didn't have.

Reminds me of a case a few years back where an English teacher had to fail students for using txtspeak in essays...

Ha! I use btw all the time. Now that i think about it though i dont actually use atm much. Weird. And i NEVER ever use ty. I prefer if sumone types Thank you or Thanks ,looks better.

The reason I wrote it like that is that people say it on teamspeak "T Y". I know its shorter as text but when people start using it when they speak it becomes stupid.

I actually use 'ta' instead of 'ty'. It means the same thing, and can be typed with one hand!

We learned that system back in Elementary school, but I just shrugged it off and didn't really pay attention. Now I just type without thinking about my hands.

Heh.  I use whatever hand is closer to do the middle letters, 6tyghb.  Never really thought about it.

I use 9-finger typing actually! Way back when I was learning to touchtype I found that my left pinky finger was a bit useless. So it just hangs off the keyboard... it looks a bit stupid, tbh, but it has just hung there for... maybe 15 or more years

But yeah, the line of TGB is the limit of my left hand. YHN is right hand. Typing TY with one hand is very slow

There's nothing wrong with txtspeak - provided that the person writing it actually knows how to write correctly in the first place. That picture with stuff like 'dudee' and 'tones of people' is just out'n'out laziness or bad; and additionally, txtspeak only works when the abbreviations in it are formed by someone who knows how the words are meant to be - otherwise it's prone to just becoming garbled mess that requires time and perhaps facepalm to convert into workable info.
