i fact, I'll explain it in a simple view for those that are thinking its a fad and looks odd.

Basically you are a god (delling must have like pre-ordered on that single word. <3)

But you start off with a single cell organism and you need to direct him to food etc and develop him though evolution so he can get a limp or an eye and gradually build him up. (This will play a little like flow or some basic rpg/strat single char games)

Eventually he will become a fish get legs or wings or whatever you decide. and breed with others of his kind. (now your looking at a populous type of style game.)

then he moves up the evolution ladder pending your custom changes (which are huge) and the race develops to new arenas. (like megalomanic or black and white or age of empires/starcraft/sim city etc etc)

then you move to planet side type of control with bigger areans so now its like a TA or total war scenario type of thing.

Then you go into space for a type of xcom kinda thing and moves to economic/political types of big strat games where you need deplomacy etc.

But thats where it gets good as you can then populate planets, use physics and all sorts of clever stuff to terraform. go back to cell level to expand your empire etc. AND the biggest bonus of all is that your game actually goes on the net to find other races that you encounter ingame. so you are meeting real races in your universe that others created. So it will always be refreshing but not a huge online battle. :)

its just pure win assuming it all comes together nicely

but its like having an update version of all your favourite strats in one package with a massive pool of creativity to use. The reason its taken so many years to develop is the game has to be just right and I heard Will Wright has EA on a leash for it so he will get it out when hes happy and not before.

I like the new/finished look. I just fear that it's some kind of gimmicky one-shot game as in: play every stage once, then never touch it again.

This game has the most horrible copy protection ever used so I'll stay far far away from it unless I can DL a crack somewhere. :P

They backed off the every-10-day-validation. Currently it's planned to authenticate once upon installation.

I got another game that had 10-day validation.  Trackmania United does it, I think.  It's the latest starforce bullshit.

Thanks Payu... :P

I don't generally have the patience for Godsims. They're fun in small doses, but I can't recall ever finishing a single Godsim... I just get bored.

I almost finished Populous 3, which was very good... Played the B&W games... thought they were fun/gimmicky.

I guess this is another thing for girls that like playing with life/people. Or maybe you can play it very long term, just an hour a night or something.

But sounds like the kind of game you could spent thousands of hours playing... and that'd just be madness, right? :)
Now I run a tech website.

The thing with Spore is that each phase (level?) of the game is completely diffent (at least graphically) from the previous.  With things like Populous 3 and B&W is that each map u do exactly the same thing over and over and get a slightly bigger death cow...

That's what you have level designers for, and skill progression by adding powers in later stages.

From what I've read with Spore, it looks to me like some kind of mini-game collection, hopefully every game stage is complex enough to keep the interest for multiple plays.
