Cross Realm Resto Shaman - Manofthelake
« on: February 17, 2010, 03:14:44 am »
Personal Information
Name: Stuart Banks
Age: 20
Nationality: Scottish
Place of Residence: Kilmarnock, Scotland

______________________________________________________________
Character Information
Character Name: Manofthelake
Realm: Burning Blade
Armoury Link: http://eu.wowarmory.com/character-sheet.xml?r=Burning+Blade&cn=Manofthelake
Class: Shaman

Main Spec: Restoration.
I'm currently rolling a 0/13/58 Resto spec. Leaving out Elemental Weapons in favour for Healing Way. I believe this improves my versatility in raids, my healing wave after a riptide goes to 1 second. Thus making it a good way to help tanks on tank heavy damage phases or periods in the fight, and an extremely viable way of spot healing ranged. Using riptide to top one and Healing wave to top another. Although both specs are viable according to my extensive research, I prefer this one.
There is also a few other variables I could spec into if required. I.E. Improved Guardian Totems for the tank. Again, if another shaman hasn't specced into that already, I believe its superior to elemental weapons.

Glyphs.

Glyph of Earth Shield: This glyph is imo, a no brainer for a solo Resto Shaman. Arguably still superior to the rest even if you’re not a solo Resto Shaman.
Glyph of Chain Heal: Higher EP value on the reports I look at than all similar raid healing glyphs.
Glyph of Riptide: The third best glyph for overall HPS and imo, outweighs others.

Professions.
Alchemy: For the extra onto my flasks and elixirs. It adds 47sp to a flask and 20haste and 20int to elixirs. Not only that, Mad Alchemist Potions are a very nice bonus.
Jewelcrafting: For the 42+ haste.

Gems.
I use the Revitalizing Earthsiege Diamond, because according to my research it comes out superior than the insightful meta. It also makes me free not to gem a crappy green gem.
I use 2x orange to activate my meta, and stack haste elsewhere.

Enchants.
Most enchants are pretty no brainers, although I pick the crit shoulders and head enchant because its superior in item value and mana doesn’t become a problem much in ICC.
I also use Tuskerrs Vitality which imo is another no brainer. The extra movement from dangers is good for minimising failures, not only that. The quicker I move the quicker I can heal again. This bonus is far more valuable than 12 crit or 7 mp5.

Off Spec: Elemental.
My Ele gear is far inferior to my Resto gear, as I haven't raided as Ele since early TOC. I am comfortable with the rotation though and have raided as Ele on numerous occasions during ulduar. I am ok with speccing ele for some raids to help out, but I’m not comfortable being Ele full time.

_______________________________________________________________
Raiding Availability.
Due to no real commitments at the moment that will interfere with raiding, I’m sure I will be able to raid whenever called upon. I control my own time also, so no silly excuses for being late or prolonged afk's.

Gaming Background.
I first started competitive gaming on console RTS games, the first one was "LOTR:BFME II". I was pretty much self trained on that game, although I did research, check forums, discuss tactics with fellow players. I got to quite a high standing, in what is relatively a small community reaching the top 20 on the leader boards.
I then moved on to Command and Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars. In which I started playing from release, having possessed the elitist and open minded attitude towards learning and competition I picked up from my previous experiences. I quickly became one of the top 5 players on the game, peaking at rank 3, although the console version may not be as competitive as the PC version, it was still no easy feat.
So when Command and Conquer 3: Kanes Wrath came out it was only natural I was good at it. On the console version I was regarded as the best player on the game, I accepted any challenge and had a record of like 200+ wins/ 3 loses.
I moved on to the PC version due to lack of patches and competition on the Xbox version. I held rank 1 on 2v2 leader board for a very brief period. Although I would admit, I wasn't as formidable with the superior competition, but still regarded myself among the top 200 players.
You're probably wondering what this has to do with WoW, I’ll tell you. I believe RTS games require alot of the same transferable skills as WoW. Such as, a competitive mind-set, good reaction times, awareness, quick thinking, initiative and teamwork. Not only that, the ability to work on and improve tactics and strategies.

WoW History, Guild History and Progress.
I only started playing WoW during the SunWell patch and even at that time I was extremely casual. I played Command and Conquer competitively at the time so I didn’t take WoW serious at all. My experience on previous expansions isn't the best because of this. But I really do think it's worth noting when you guys were progressing through SunWell and other end-game content, I was myself playing competitively and at the highest level on another game.
I decided to start taking WoW serious for the new expansion. Got promoted to Officer in my 1st guild "GodMode" for showing a very forward and active attitude. I learned the game in this guild, tried my hardest to build the guild up for WOTLK with limited experience. When WOTLK was released, I was one of the 1st 80's on the server. 2nd Orc and 2nd Shaman if my memory serves me right, so no achievement :'(. GodMode ended up being carried on my back, due to none of the other officers making much effort. Recruitment, Discipline, Raid Leading, DKP, ect was all done by me. This was a stressful time, and although not at a high level of raiding; it was a vital learning curve for me.
GodMode was disbanded by me a few months after the Ulduar Patch, this was mainly caused by a lack of dedication from the members, and my personal burn-out.
"Damage Control" was my next adventure, they were 3rd on the server when I joined. I took a few core members from GodMode with me, and we got Horde 1st on Mimiron, Vezax, Yogg (Pre nerf), and Horde 1st hardmode kills of Flame levi, XT, Hodir, Thorim. Since the core of GodMode joined this guild we went from 3rd on Horde side to way out in front. Two months after my arrival I was promoted to Officer. Sadly, about a month after TOC was released the majority of the Officers including the GM stopped playing and therefore the guild went pear-shaped.
I took a 3 week break from raiding after Damage Control disbanded. During this period I did some PvP, 1st time I done arena seriously might I add. I quickly got to 2k rating (2nd week of PvP'ing) and realised, my passion doesn't belong in PVP. It never really felt as rewarding as PVE, so I decided to join another guild.
Around this time, "Dystopia" was formed. It was a merge of the 3 top horde guilds on the server, made because individually all 3 were struggling. We killed 4/5 in TOGC rather quickly and obviously became horde no.1 on the server. I was promoted to officer within 2 months of joining. Currently in ICC we've got a 25man progress of 9/12, closest attempt on BQL is 1% enrage.
I've missed about 7 raids in the last year. Maintaining a 95%+ attendance in all 3 previous guilds.

Brief Summary of Progress.
25man - Icecrown Citadel 9/12
   ToGC 4/5
   Ulduar Hardmodes 5/9

10man - Icecrown Citadel 10/12
   ToGC 5/5 (Insanity)
   Ulduar Hardmodes 9/9 + Algalon

Why do you want to join Iron Edge?

Burning Blade(Server) is extremely weak on Horde side and I’m tired of being a big fish in a small pond. I want to join a guild that matches my ambition, puts in as much effort as I do and has the overall will to win. Iron Edge certainly has that.
After enquiring and learning more about the guild, I realised you have a very large and friendly community. I was pleasantly surprised with how casual and social everyone one was to each other when I joined TeamSpeak. It was also nice to see a guild that don’t instantly log off TeamSpeak after raids, instead socialising and talking about how to improve certain areas. This has been void in my previous guilds and it's something that I approve of.

What can I offer to Iron Edge?
An extremely motivated and competent player. I am a self reliant, self critical perfectionist when it comes to my own performance. If a balance patch comes, I am very quick at updating and doing the upmost optimum I can possibly do. I research bosses and my class thoroughly, as you can see from my character; he's pretty much in perfect shape, imo. I would be happy to explain any choice I’ve made on my character.
Not only am I very critical of myself, I am very accepting and understanding of other people failings. I am not an Elitist in that term, I won’t shout "noob" or go berserk at any mistake. I believe I’m easy to get along with, I don’t take jokes, sarcasm, or criticism to heart. I have a microphone and I am not scared to use it. I have a very good grasp on the English language and can understand most accents.
Over the time I’ve played the game, I realise I’ve not reached my maximum potential (in terms of progression), but I assure you that's not through personal inadequacies. When I commit to a guild I put my heart and soul into it, even in hard times. That means I’ve previously not took good opportunities to migrate and join superior guilds, favouring to stick it out with guilds who aren't on my same level on dedication. So I can assure you, if I’m lucky enough to be accepted, I will be as committed and loyal to the cause as I can possibly be.

Good stuff!

You're 20, but with no kind of real life commitments?

Some kind of day job I guess?
Now I run a tech website.

Raid and party frames FTW.

Altho, ive got my DPS spells on there since it seemed like a suitable place to put them. Not being used a great deal in raids, up there they serve as the same lay-out as what i have when i'm Ele spec, just a little higher up on the keyboard. Making it an easy system for me to use.

Very nice application! Shows you have knowledge and experience as shaman. This is the best chance to get resto shaman we are going to get, so I say we trial him. If you are able to log in on dunemaul before 19:30, I would be happy to trial you. Need Dellings confirmation tho
