Angels and Demons // Star Trek
« on: May 18, 2009, 10:53:07 am »
So I actaully pulled a double cinema this weekend. Thought I'd share my thoughts with you guys. Maybe you have some time off from Ulduar to go see a movie :)

Angels and Demons
Remember the Da Vinchi Code? IT'S AN ANAGRAM! LET'S RUN THIS WAY!

Well…Angels and Demons is pretty much the same. Only this time it's an AMBIGRAM and Audrey Tatou is not in it to keep us... intrigued. No one is really acting, it's all routine and overpaid actors are delivering lines from the script without any effort. Everyone is looking bored. And it is pretty boring despite the fast pace.

This is just a crappier version of the Da Vinchi Code (which wasn't THAT spectacular in the first place). It has some decent footage of Rome in it though. Made me want to go.

Star Trek
I'm not a Trekkie. In fact, I have never seen a Star Trek movie or watched a full episode of the series. My expectations on this movie was basically zero.

The movie takes place some years before the series started. We get to see how the characters grew up and got to know eachother as well as their first mission on The Enterprise. The story is pretty good and a perfect introduction to a Star Trek Noob like me. I also found the casting good; more or less unknown actors in leading roles and some typical supporters. The're all doing a decent job. I'm so tired of seeing dudes like Keanu Reeves in movies like this. Also, the special effects are great.

But what makes this sci-fi stand out is the creational joy that surrounds it. Everyone involved seems to have enjoyed the project alot and it really passes on to the audience. It doesn't take itself too serious and isn't so fucking dark as most movies (especially action/sci-fi) has been the last ten years. This movie feels very refreshing. Solid entertainment!

I am a trekkie basically. and I loved the new star trek.

They cheated a bit (which was a wise decision) and made this a parallel timeline to the original one.
So they dont have to be "lorenerds" they can make up the story freely.
Great cast. Gotta love sylar as spock :)

Not if you've seen the season finale of Fringe, Grax...!11

Loved Trek. Can't wait for the next two in the series... or three... or four...

Not seen Angels & Demons (or Da Vinci Code). I was actually looking forward to A&D because it's my favourite book of his... but after Treachery's rather sad review of it, I guess I won't bother.

Star Trek was fun thou I don't see the need to fuck the lore by "blowing the whole thing up". IMO that was quite unnecessary and smells of "whoa we're so rad!".

Also, "lets just shoot him on the ice planet", no holding cells on that ship?

I agree that blowing up Vulcan was way of the top, but in general it was a good movie to watch. Definitely better than the crap movie(s) and serie(s) they ended with.

DS9?

Babylon 5 and BSG both rate above DS9 by some way.

Unless you're, like, into Neighbours and Home And Away

Why assume I was talking about DS9? Voyager and Enterprise both came after it.

Although DS9 was a bit to soapy for my taste it wasn't a crap series.
