Frets on Fire
« on: June 09, 2009, 01:34:33 am »
www.fretsonfire.net is a good source of information about this game.

This is a game that remarkably has slipped under my radar. I am an avid Guitar Hero fan, constantly looking for new DLC on xbox live, though the updates are very few and far in between.

I heard of this game around the time it first popped up. I wasn't really in to a 'low quality, home made and free' version of GH, as I had tried some custom songs for the retail games that were horribly out of sync etc.

However, this game has gotten incredibly far since the time I first saw it. It is now a working 'clone' of GH. The most remarkable difference from when I first saw it is that apparently you can use your xbox guitar controllers and remap the buttons to go along with it. I wasn't aware of this, but it has been incredibly good so far. There is no delay, and if there is, you can adjust latency in the menus. You can also skin it whichever way you want, im using the skin below.

It is incredibly easy to install and setup, and installing new songs is as easy as copying text in wordpad. The songs are also, from what I've experienced, greatly synced and fun to play, offering a new challenge for Dragonforce-esque song quality junkies like myself.

The song packs I've been playing so far are:
Puppetz Hero 2 - 54 Awesome Fretted Songs!
Puppetz Hero 3 - 84 Awesome Fretted songs!

You can find a myriad of song packs over at:

Have you played it? If so, what are your thoughts about it?
If you know a complete Dragonforce pack, and can post a link to it, please do so.

I gave up Guitar Hero 3 when the RSI started getting too serious in my fingers :(

That's some good clone work though!
Now I run a tech website.
