Inglourious Basterds
« on: September 03, 2009, 10:30:58 am »
Tarantino's new movie has two separate stories with one theme in common: revenge. One is about a young women that lose her family to the Nazis and one is about The Basterds. The Basterds are a bunch of jewish-american soldiers sent to the third reich to kill Nazis and collect their scalps.

Dialogue plays an important role in this film, as in all Tarantino movies. What's new in this one is that alot of the dialogue is in german, french or italian. This works very good and alot of the actors seems very comfortable with it. Especially the Jew Hunter, the films antagonist, played by Christopher Waltz. He's doing an amazing job.

Without all the details this would "just" be an entertaining and somewhat absurd revenge movie. However, every scence in this film (well, most of them) is great on it's own. Not a single scene is there just to pull the story towards an end but filled with great dialogue, acting, crazy characters, cultural references and awesome camera work.

Do not expect a history lesson. Tarantino is not true to any history other than film history. History does not limit art in this film. In fact, this film creates its own.

8/10

Nekrothreading.

Finally saw the blueray rip, cba to watch it dubbed German in the cinema.

Very good watch. Of course it gets bonus points for the bunch of German actors. Language mix was interesting.

Nice to see a good one again after the Grindhouse bullshit.

Tarantino's last movies was like shit. But i guess he is improving himself again.
Nice choice of actors, nice script & scenario.
i like that kind of situations when 2 actors are talking to each other for 15 minutes without boring the audience. Like the one in the entrance of the movie.

What's with the title of the movie? both words are incorrectly spelled :p

Basterds looks less wrong, considering that's how some pronounce it. But IngloUrious? I don't get it :p

Maybe I will be enlightened when I watch it, recently downloaded it. Haven't gotten to actually watch it yet though.

Something to do with the regiment that the film revolves around.

tarantino refuses to tell why he spelled it like this. its kind of silly, i guess. "artisic reasons" he claimed in an interview.

there is an inglorious bastards from the sixties or something. perhaps thats why. he borrows so much from other film makers but he doesnt want to steal titles? :)

Just finally watched it and i must say that actor who's playing Col. Hans Landa deserves an oscar for his role.

I dunno, he sortof semifails as you keep realizing he's an actor. The bearjew does the same thing in the theatre scene.

The little man on the other hand is someone I'd want to see more of, he looks like a hella ugly but good actor, alas he didn't get that much screentime :/
