Title: WotL screenshots
Post by: Goza on July 21, 2008, 03:43:21 pm
Maybe some of you are interested in some WotL screenshots. These were taken during the alpha, of points I found interesting/good looking. I did not take shots of the higher zones before they were marked off-limits, so you'll find stuff from approx. the first third of WotL here.

If you have any questions, just post here.

Let's start with some Borean Tundra pics. I chose that area to level instead of Howling Fjord.

Edit: To our guests: If you can't see the pics, you need to create a forum profile & log in. Sorry, I wasn't aware of that when I posted the topic.

Coldarra. You get a flight point via dragon to the isle in north-western Borean Tundra after doing quests for some Dalaran mages & a red dragon.

(sorry forgot to hide my interface here)

Coldarra seems to be a snowy volcanic crater. In the middle is the hub for the instances (Nexus, Oculus, and the raid ones). It's one of the best looking zones, great colors and geometry.

The Nexus instance in Coldarra. Did it with a PuG, very easy, but one of the bosses bugged for us and therefore we couldn't start the end boss. Some chat censorship due to avoid general spoilers.

It's a 4 boss instance, the first 3 bosses can be killed in any order, after those the 4th (who's frozen in the middle of the instance) gets unlocked.

Absolutely stunning graphics. Best visual instance in WoW so far.

...more Nexus fun with French raiders...

Oh, 2nd boss already dead. It's a white voidwalker like the one in Magister's terrace.

Next zone: Dragonblight. This is the Horde base camp in the western part, you arrive here from Borean Tundra. IIRC the keep's leader is a mean ogre female. It also has an arena in the middle which I think will function like the Ring of Trials(?) in Nagrand.

More Dragonblight.

Wyrmrest Temple. Alpha model, in the beta it has snow on it. It's a quest hub, 3 vertical levels, dragons fly you up/down. Think there's also a daily dragon ride attack quest here (wasn't working well when I was there).

Below, stealth mission into a Scourge base.

An example of a "fly mount & shoot at mobs" quest. Controls needed some tuning, but lotsa fun.

One of the dragonshrines in Dragonblight. I think this was the one with the crazy dragon that's sleeping in the Emerald Dream.

Two shots of the gate to Icecrown Glazier. Horde and Alliance build up towns here, there's a fight ongoing against the Scourge coming out of Icecrown. Looks like some AQ gate event...?

Not sure whether this is the new Naxxramas. And some random scenery.

Next zone: Grizzly Hills. Nice design, most of the west half is a big decline.

Next zone: Howling Fjord, the eastern starting zone. You'll start in a town showing the new undead architecture buildings.

Returning from a mission poisoning an alliance fleet.
They got what they deserved.

Then moving from the coast into the mainland.

Utgarde Keep from a distance.
Title: Re: WotL screenshots
Post by: Goza on July 21, 2008, 04:47:03 pm
Utgarde Keep instance.

I wasn't that impressed with this instance, lots of the dungeon looks copy & paste, the mobs drop like flies, most share the same model, it's brownish and not very interesting. But that might be a matter of taste.

The only cool thing is the forge in the beginning, and later on you come to an outside area where the end boss is.

Shots are not that good as I did not had much time as the group was rushing throu the instance.

"Is this a boss?" sums it up quite nicely.

At the end, some random shots.

Goza jumps in the goblin tank to saw throu some Scourge. Alpha siege weapon mode.

Shot 3 und 4 show the real time shadows that kill my computer.

Proper etiquette for holding disembodied heads. Finally, some new heads to collect!

And something for the art fans.

The new warlock spell Shadowflame in action. Looks pretty.

And a peek into Drak'Tharon Keep, the instance between Grizzly Hills and Zul'Drak.

That concludes the screenshot series. Hope you enjoyed!

I can't say that, I did not pay much attention to loot as for my T6 geared warlock it was of course not interesting. Also, the higher level zones like Grizzly Hills were not itemized yet. You can probably find good information about loot on www.mmo-champion.com

Anyway, I put together a screenshot of some quest item rewards, maybe that's helpful. Note that all those quests can be easily soloed.

Who's this Hellscream the questlog speaks of? A base or something? Or a descendant from Grom?

The depressed Nagrand guy with the Thrall questline. Remember you helped him getting back his balls...? He's boss of the Borean Tundra outpost, Warsong Hold, now.

Some from me today.

Just finished exploring Azjol-Nerub, and The Halls of Stone.

Both instances are really, really beautiful. Like The Nexus, but beautiful in other ways. Great detail, colour schemes, textures...

Anyway, I'll post some screens so you can see for yourself.

Some more...

Some Anub'arak shot that you might see on WoR later today...

Some random place in Grizzly Hills... And some random Zeppelin shot...

Last one is one of the boss events in The Halls of Stone. Very awesome event.

And some other from the same event in The Halls of Stone.

How did you guys get in beta ? Did blizz start giving keys ? Or can you get in to beta from alpha directly ?

Some are from the WWI in France, and everyone in the alpha automatically gets in the beta, too.

Here's some more goodies...

Mainly Zul'drak.

(That guy is bigger than you can imagine... Apparently he hits for 130k+, but I didn't try it yet...)

Some nice new flame effect too.

Now the most awesome and huge ampitheatre/something you've ever seen. One from the top, one from the bottom looking up. Check out the gong...!

And a shot of Gundrak, from a distance.

Last one is a room in Dalaran, where you can (seemingly) queue for any of the battlegrounds, from one of these shiny crystals...

There are portals to every city in the room below.

New shots from Azjol'nerub. Man, Anub'arak's room is amazing. Well, the whole instance is.

And a random shot of the Wrymrest Temple in the middle of Dragonblight.

Check out the cool fountain in the middle, with benches!

Yeah. Also, currently it's handled as a vehicle, not mount. Means you can target/attack the motorcycle instead of the driver. Might be changed thou.

Then there's also the caravan mammoth which is a 3 person mount, for the bargain price of 15k g. Doesn't work with passengers yet thou.

Dalaran starts to look pretty good, a lot of great textures. Doesn't really show in your screenshots Delling. Shit graphic settings? It's all so mushy!

Huh? :P Everything is turned up max there.

AA is on, if that's what you mean by 'mushy'?

It's just jpeg compression most likely...

Did you also turn on the Shadow details to max? They added a few new graphic options you should check out :) They're both interface and video options i think.
