Title: IE DOTA Tournament (or league?)
Post by: delling on August 15, 2008, 03:57:09 pm
THE WIN/LOSS/DRAW TABLE
-----------------------

Let's make a DOTA tournament?!

We have enough players to make 4 teams I think...

Split the pros between the 4 teams.

Can make teams based on geographical region if you like...

Pros: (I use this term loosely...)
Kawe
Lotinja
Lestariol
Aleandro
Otori (could switch me and Oto, not sure.)

(1 per team.)

Above-Average:
Gerdi
Thoramon
Archz
Crazylock
Shardakan
Delling
Deidara

Below-Average:
Tyler
Palmar
Grilldyret
Father
Malik
Shiftey

Feeders:
Meeckah
Vorte (banned?)
Cwave
Ino
Grishnag

---

This leaves people like Grishnag (who doesn't play much? But might want to play?) Ponkoo who is not IE, but am sure he wants to play...

If you think my allocation is wrong, feel free to comment.

We would probably assign 4 team leaders, and then 'league mode' pick -- 1, 2, 2, 2, 2... Or just alternate pick, whatever people prefer.

So Delling takes Sapa, then next team leader can take 2 -- but only 1 pro, and 1 above average... next leader takes 1 pro, 1 above average... and so on.

We could either do a tournament (a small double-elimination?), or have some kind of long-running league.

Any ideas?

Forgot to include Shiftey. Any other names?

I think a league where everyone gets to fight eachother twice would be cool, the teams would have to agree on times they can play(off raid hours obviuosly).

Dota-league.com and such sites have rules about disconnects and such that we could use as inspiration.

A league with some kind of winner/trophy after a month or something... and then reset.

Ah, Zakk... and Inphy!

Nope... this can be it.
Title: Re: IE DOTA Tournament (or league?)
Post by: Grishnag on August 15, 2008, 04:42:41 pm
this totaly depends on when you want to do it dell i mean i would love to play but still have to work and well after raids is generaly not good for me

though on the bright side of thinks next thursday starts my 4 week vacation

vacation  as in sitting around and doing nothing for 4 weeks

but yeah i want to play and it seems like fun

though what game mode we gonna play then? still sdns?
Title: Re: IE DOTA Tournament (or league?)
Post by: delling on August 15, 2008, 04:45:03 pm
Would do weekends I guess... some pre-arranged time, as you have to get 2 games in really, per 'match'.

SDNS is fine, but we'd probably have to ban new heroes to keep games balanced.

Other choice is LMXL (league mode pick, with exclusions)

Or just APXL, as the dota-league site suggests, which might be fun for teams to build their 'pro setups' and shit.
Title: Re: IE DOTA Tournament (or league?)
Post by: Palmar on August 15, 2008, 04:51:45 pm
-SDNS works, but you'd always have to play best outta three to decide each match. To prevent RNG to lose a game for you.

Weekends are definitely the way to go.

My suggestion is to simply select team captains and start building the teams.
Title: Re: IE DOTA Tournament (or league?)
Post by: Gaeios(Graxlos) on August 15, 2008, 05:00:36 pm
I vote for apxl or lmxl and two games against every team
one as scourge one as sentinel.

With lmxl there would be no RNG.

And I would award points as in football. 3 for a win 1 for a draw 0 for a loss.(not sure if draws could happen with our rules.

Draw is when you win one game, lose another...!
Title: Re: IE DOTA Tournament (or league?)

oh yeah could do it out of the two games ofc.
Title: Re: IE DOTA Tournament (or league?)
Post by: delling on August 15, 2008, 05:22:17 pm
Team leaders should be:

Delling
Lotinja (if he can make his sound work)
Lestariol
Kawe

If Grax/Sapa want to lead, they can take my spot. But no one's played with Grax in ages, so no one even knows what he sounds like...

Modified to fit IE-standards

1. Pick-League General Rules:

1.1 The current map for playoff games is the latest map available.

1.2 The mode will be -apxl. This means you pick before the game starts in the chat like -xl (first 6 bans in the following form: 1-1-1-1-1-1. Afterwards the teams will pick as follows 1-2-2-2-2-1). At game start the mode will be -ap. All heroes are allowed, exceptions are the ones that were banned by the 2 teams.

1.3 Every week you have to play one match. One match is two games in –apxl and each time you will play one game as Scourge and one game as Sentinel. Sentinel got first ban/pick.

1.9The games will be hosted by people with stable connections using listchecker.

1.12 Default dates for matches is LOL NEED TO PICK TIME

1.13 Match dates can be rescheduled if both teams agree on one date. Otherwise it is the default date. But the game must be played at the next Friday after the default date at the latest.

1.19 If two teams have equal points at the end of the season (whether it be the relegation or promotion zone) There will be a play-off to decide which team wins the tournament.

2. In game rules

2.1 If one team is incomplete (ie. 4 players or less) the other team may select a backup from outside the team. The backup must be ranked at least one step lower (or equal in case of a "pretty awful" player missing) in Delling's rankings.

2.2 Any team has the right to set the game on pause for up to 5 minutes but only with a proper count down of at least 3 seconds and maximum 2 pauses per team are allowed per game. A team is also obliged to give a count down of at least 3 seconds before unpausing.

2.4 If a player disconnects before 10 minutes and before First Blood has occurred, a remake must be made.

2.5 If you remake the game all players choose excatly the same heroes. Additionally all heroes must be in the same lane as they choose for the first game at least until there have contact between the creeps in the lane in question.

2.6
If a player disconnects after First Blood or after 10 minutes, teams must keep on playing.

2.10 If a player disconnects and the game is not loaded you are allowed to EITHER use the hero and his items as they are OR sell all items from the hero itself to share the gold from the items. You are not allowed to take the items and sell them from another hero than the leaver and you are not allowed to take the items and use them on another hero. Please note that this rule does NOT forbid that you teamsell and use the leaver without items - you are always allowed to use a hero from a disconnected player.

2.11 The game is over and the winners found when, the World Tree or Frozen Throne is destroyed.

3. Known bugs and restrictions:

3.2 No creep skipping. Creep skipping is defined by attacking a tower which is out of range to attack your creeps OR attacking a non-tower building with creeps fighting out of the range of the ranged creeps (Necromancer, Meat Wagon, Ballista or Druid of the Talon). If your Creeps are in the enemy base you are allowed to attack every building inside the base.
You may continue attack in the enemy base for as long as you want – even after all your creeps are dead.

3.3 It is always allowed to attack a denyable tower even without creep support.

3.4 Denying your own creeps in order to stop the opponent from gaining is forbidden. The exceptions are Strygwyr can use them to gain health, Clinkz can use dark pact, and every hero afflicted by battle hunger may deny one creep to get rid of it. If a person has unexplained denies, the team may lose the game.

3.8 Item sharing is strictly forbidden. The following items are the only exceptions and they may not be used to make any form of recipe. Items which may be shared are as follows: Bottle, Clarity Potion, Animal Courier, Tango of Essifation, Observer Wards, Sentry Wards, Scroll of Town Portal, Flask of Sapphire Water, Gem of Truesight, Aegis of The Immortal, Cheese, Ring of Health, Ring of Regeneration, Void Stone, Sobi Mask and Perservence. Remember that you may not make any recipes by sharing so you are not allowed to loan a Ring of Health to an ally who already has a Void Stone, thus making a Perserverance. If this happens the players have to dissemble it instant by clicking on the item.

3.9 You cannot share hero control under any circumstances.

3.10 Completely closing an entrance to your own base using the Earthshakers Fissure spell is forbidden.

3.11 It is not allowed to block creeps with the use of spells such as Fissure, Sprout etc. You may only block creeps by physically intercepting them with your hero model only. Spells which completely kills your own creeps such as Dark Pact or Conversion are allowed to use as you wish.

To be honest I don't care what section I'm in =P

Also... I know some people (myself included) get aggravated by several of the people you mentioned. Is there a way to opt out of leaders? Nothing personal, I just find it harder to play with certain people.

I SUCK LOLOLOL!!1

Grilly left his comp on..Vorte here.

About what Meeckah said, I honestly think you just gotta ignore the fact that you can't stand certain people when playing DOTA. If not, it will be redicuosly hard to organize the teams, and knowing you, I'm sure you can adapt pretty easily to make this solitaire solve itself....splellingz?

I might not feed at all if I get my new internet before this tournament... ;)

If you stopped suiciding you'd easily be one of the better players by a ways. So confusing to see you play well during a match then just once in a while charge headfirst into as many enemies as you can find, possibly inside their fountain. ;)

Post by: Grishnag on August 19, 2008, 11:55:10 pm
i was just thinking that if we are gonna do that -apxl (guessing ap stands for all pick?) we should atleast have 2 matches against the same team because the sourge and sentinels have different heroes to pick from after all

anyway put me in the below average tier cause yes... i do want to play
Title: Re: IE DOTA Tournament (or league?)
Post by: delling on August 20, 2008, 01:58:10 am
AP is just that -- all heroes, all 8 taverns.

But yeah, you are meant to do 2 games for each match. 1 each way. For fairness!

Count me out before we get the new net, when it acts out completely random in the middle of the night aswell, I honestly have no idea what it is.

Wasn't lagging at all in the game the net crashed in either, and after that it kept chain dc'ing... Can that be my network card aswell?

Anyway, goodnight, and sorry for this shite :(

Depending on the timeroster I might be able to join. However I can never be sure about my availability so I'd be a reserve player at best. So best chance for me to be on is after 00:00.
Title: Re: IE DOTA Tournament (or league?)
Post by: delling on August 26, 2008, 06:10:12 pm
Unfortunately that's not how the picking goes.

We need 4-5 team leaders on vent, and then they take turns in picking players.

Will revise list.

Assume Sapa won't be taking part, or Inphy. Don't think Grax will be either.

We can meet up sometime this week and pick teams.
Title: Re: IE DOTA Tournament (or league?)
Post by: delling on August 26, 2008, 06:20:34 pm
Updated.

Can't really balance the numbers between the brackets.

Moved me down to Above-Average, so we can have 1 pro per team.

At 23 people on the list, 22 discounting Vorte.

Looks like 4 teams to me, or 5 if we can dig up some feeders like Daekesh/Fowaty, and let Vorte play.
Title: Re: IE DOTA Tournament (or league?)
Post by: Palmar on August 26, 2008, 06:23:52 pm
4 teams is better

having reserve on a team might be a good idea. I'm more than happy to sit out some games.
Title: Re: IE DOTA Tournament (or league?)
Post by: delling on August 26, 2008, 06:24:44 pm
TEAM SELECTION PROCESS:

So, 4 or 5 team leaders chosen (the 4 or 5 best players we have).

They roll. Roll order defines picking order.

Pick is 'standard' league pick.

Leader A chooses 1 player (from any bracket).
Leader B chooses 2 players (from any bracket).
Leader C chooses 2 players (from any bracket).
Leader D chooses 2 players (from any bracket).
Leader E (if present) chooses 2 players (from any bracket).

Leader A chooses 2 players (from any bracket).
Leader B chooses 2 players (from any bracket).
Leader C chooses 2 players (from any bracket).
Leader D chooses 2 players (from any bracket).
Leader E (if present) chooses 2 players (from any bracket).

Leader A chooses 2 players (from any bracket).
All remaining leaders then choose their final player.

(Did I mess up the last round? Someone like Tyler can probably tell me how fair the process is.)

Not a bad idea, Palmar.

AR is OK, but it can cause some really unbalanced games.

We chose SDNS over AR because it gives you some random choice, but also lets you still build a balanced team (2 agi, 1 int, 2 str, or whatever).

When we are better and we can win 5-int games... then maybe AR is OK.

-rd seems pretty good...

Seems retarded like this, why the hell not just talk to the people u want in your team? This way u might end up with players u dont want to play with, or who dont fit your game style? Total and utter retardness. Thought we were going to do this seriously, not force random people on the team...

Arns and sdns and rd are all far to unbalanced

Leaders pick team lotinja, its just unfair that whoever picks their team first gets to choose everyone, so Dell is suggesting a way to pick teams fairly. Like everyone picks one person or something similar

Delling: otori, gerdi, shiftey, father, grilly
Lestariol: tyler, archz, thoramon, ino, vorte
Lotinja: crazylock, aleandro, deidara, grishnag, meeckah

6 per team. First 5 are first picks. Last one is for backup use (Sorry Ponkoo, you were left out of the list, so I had to give you to Kawe as an 'oops, sorry...')

Will draw up a league sometime, and decide on rules.

Games probably to be held on weekends.

(Sorry Ponk, you should've joined IE long ago, when you were originally meant to... I think the plan is for Kawe to play 50/50 games with you and his other last pick.)

Ale didn't get picked until late for some reason (think the captains didn't understand the process), so somehow he ended up being picked 5th... Lotinja got lucky :P

Okay, so we'll do a standard league to start.

Each team plays the other team twice. One match consists of 2 games. Draw is 1 win each.

So you will play 4 games in total against each team -- 2 matches.

Doesn't really matter on the order of matches... just as long as everyone plays 1 match first I guess, so there's some 'suspense' for the second round of matches.

I suggest something like 5pm on Saturday for our first set of matches. If that's not possible, we can do 8pm.

Then another set of matches on Sunday at 6pm? 8pm? (to not hit the BT run.)

Team A can't play for the first 2 weeks, so we can do B vs. C first (my team vs. lest's), and then if we have time, can do C vs. D, or B vs. D.

So, I will gather at 5pm on Vent, on Saturday. My team will come, and hopefully C and D will also be there.

I'll make a pretty W/L/D table on first post.

If 5pm doesn't work, we can try again at 7.

Two chances!

If it is, it's probably your power supply. Cheap and very easy to replace.
