Oke, i've been struck by a blaster worm appearantly.
I've been searching the net for some proper answers, but they all date back to about 2003, 2004 tops. I have allready fixed the rebooting 'problem'(by using shutdown /a in cmd) but that shuts down the rcp which shuts down my internet (so im currently on the laptop).
Now, i've downloaded the patch to fix the leak in the M$ but it said I allready had a newer version installed. So that didn't fix anything. Currently running a Symantec W32.Blaster.Worm Fix Tool (that was recommended by alot of people on the forums i've been browsing so far), and I'll see what comes out of that. I hope the virus will be removed, else i'll just have to find something else.
But my question remains, if the patch is allready installed on my pc (because it said I allready had a newer version installed) then how do I stop it from re-entering my pc once more? (because, as far as I know, firewalls and anti-virus programms can't stop it right?)
Big thanks. Inphy.
Ps. I should be able to raid tonight.

Hi inphy,
I had that blasterworm years ago too. The Symantec tools from back then will work fine,as it's already a quite outdated worm. Strange your virusscanner did not pick it up to start with?
Anyway, deal with the sucker quickly as it ruins your computer.
good luck.
Aur.
ps. stop downloading porn.

Well the problem is, that it's not the blaster worm from back then. Because you would've seen it in taskmanager > processes (taakbeheer, processen) as some sort of blaster.worm.exe or something similair. But I can't seem to find it.
Result of the Symantec worm fix is that it keeps getting frozen at some point and then gives the message that it's not responding.
I'm running some other virus scans atm, hope that'll work.

if you are running windows with sp2 or 3 you shouldnt be able to get infected by the original blaster worm. in that case it must be some new copycat.
Dont tell me you are running xp sp1.

Blaster Worm sounds really cool...
-
blaster can infect your computer without you doing anything. if your computer is running windows xp sp1 or older.
so you should always update a new xp install to sp2 before connecting it to the internet.

Wow, old school!
I think everyone's had Blaster or the other one... er... I forget what it was. The number of friends I had to help with chronically-rebooting computers... Happy days.

Well, seems to be working now... I hope.
But im running sp3 since I first installed it. It's still awefully slow. It takes a few minutes to "windows is starting" - the loading screen.
So let's pray for the best.

You can use my Mac for the Naxx raid tonight since you brought me a Snickers.

Inphy never brings me treats to raids.

Oke. Well, the only "solution" I found on the intrawebz is that I should download that patch.... BUT ITS ALLREADY INSTALLED!
Hope it's not a new one -.-

What is a blaster worm? Sounds like something straight out of a stargate SG1-episode..

Oke! Sortof got my computer working now. The virus should be gone now. Now the virus removed some of my windows files, so I can't get the network connection up.
But i'm fixing it as we speak.
And a blaster worm is some sort of virus that digs into your w32 files and fucks them up. Without you knowing it. Sortof. It was a leak in the windows and if you have windows updated to the latest patches it shouldn't be causing any troubles.
(Windows updates aren't all that bad!)

(Raid in 30...)

Just to inform, the blaster Virus has been updated lately, and can get the better of you even if you have the "new" updates.
I have seen a few of them since this summer, and it's a pain to remove.
Keep your FW, and AV updated.
