Hey Iron Edge,
unfortunately i'm not that well in finding good introductional words, so lets skip that and go to the application straight ahead
About Myself
- Name: Youlin (its Chinese, male, that is)
- Age: 19
- Location: Homburg (a (too) little town in Germany) where im forced to live
- what I do all day long: no job yet, just a college student, in like 6 years i'll be a doc (hopefully)
I guess it's time to say something about myself. At the age of 9 my family came to Germany in order to study and work and because it went all well, we desiced to stay here. I guess that's the best thing that happened so far! Not only I dont need to learn that much like the kids in China (some of them even commit suicide due to the pressure), I had plenty chances to see more aspects in life and of the world. The story goes on and I inevitably discovered wow and was fascinated by it. But because I was just a few months from my final secondary-school exams, I started afterwards :3 I guess i could have started ealier, since I'm playing a few hours a day and still passed every exam at the collegue. I know, its only the first year and everything is easy, so thats why i was so excited when I discovered your guild. According to your recruitment information, you only have two firm raid days a week and still acquired most of the raiding achievements available. In my opinion thats a sign of strength, purposefulness and itelligent scheduling, every single point skyrocketed my interest and when i read that paladin recruitment is still open, i immediately started writing (:
About My Character
- Name: Anananas
- Class: Paladin
- Race: Bloodelf
- Level: 80
- Spec I am applying for:
Protection (5/60/6): PVE tanking build with BoK (i h8 it, but i need to put the points somewhere, patch 3.1 cant hit live realms fast enough imo!, Seals of the Pure for the dmg and threat, though i probably will choose something for mitigation and EH when ulduar is available and surviving is more important

I will let gear evaluation to you, I just want to add that my current gear is set for threat, not survivability.
Professions
- Primary Professions : Blacksmithing 450 / Mining 450
- Secondary Professions : First Aid 450 / Cooking 420 or so, enough to cook +40stam+40str, not actively skilling it anymore / Fishing 420 or so
Raid Experience

- TBC experience:
b4 patch 3.0: Karazhan clear , TK clear, ZA clear, MH 2/5
after: MH 4/5, BT 7/9, SSC none
- WotLK raid experience
- 10 Man
- Naxxramas: clear
- Sartharion: not downed with adds yet
- Malygos: clear
- 25 Man
- Naxxramas: clear
- Sartharion: not downed with adds yet
- Malygos: clear
I know this is somehow poor. But let me explain with the words of knaughty of maintankadin.com: "Does your group have enough skill?"
Unfortunately i chose to play a toon that has a somehow inevitable design error: you are dependend on your guild and group. Doesn't matter how good you're, if your guild is only mediocre, you cant manage anything. And here lies the problem: good guildes already have good tanks. I experienced this when i hit 70 and joined my first guild. When it was time for raiding, the leaders always chose the already experienced, well geared tanks over me since this way they could guarantee a smoothless raiding evening. I on my side had to go with PuG's and hope for them to be good. A dd on the other hand who entered roughley the same time was picked to join the guild raids immediately. I asked the leader why and he explained to me, and i must confess this is somehow logical, but not very fair, that the lack of a little damage potential is not as big a impact as lack of tanking potential. After all there a more than 15 DD's and only 1-3 tanks.
Sorry, this was a bit too much of whining and crying, but i hope some of you can understand this problem. So this time i'm aiming for a slot of a experienced guild to gather more experience for myself and to become better this way.
Guild History
- List any previous guilds and your reasons for leaving them:
<Hordnungsamt> (a pun about horde and Ordnungsamt (the german word for Public Order Office)) on Blutkessel is my first guild so far. With them I got into the concept of raiding, planning and having fun in a raid. But in the end, I was unhappy how the guild is evolving, or to be more precise, how it is not evolving. This giuld started as a casual fun guild with people who know each other irl and started wow together. But after a few months, they still couldn't establish a working discipline while raiding. Not only are people invited to participate who are not prepared for this fight in terms of reading guides (so we have to explain them how it works and wiping a few times before they finally understood) and gear (some people dealt significantly less damge than me on dps fights like patchwerk).
<insert coin> the top guild on my server before patch 3.0, the guild master ninjaed the vault and left, the successor guild also split, and the next successor guild is the one i am in and again it is about to split. At this point I decided that I had no chance to improve myself on this relatively youngrealm (it's only one or two years old).
So to cut a long story short, I'm seeking for a more elitist, established guild, where people are not only fascinated by the game, i.e. nice soundtrack, nice instance architecture, but are also able to get the most out of the game, in term of understanding it, playing by its rules instead of one's own (i.e. theorycrafting against personal feeling) and last but not least people who can wants a goal and will work for it.
Me as a Player:
I admit: I'm a theorycrafting nerd. I can't stand it, when the tooltip isn't showing the same number as my calculator, I hate it, when some fractions of a rating is unused or even exceeded the cap. On one hand, I can be sure which piece of gear is better, but on the other hand, its soooooo time consuming! I want to start a druid healer but by only looking at the amounnts of numbers, caps, rating conversions etc. i lose faith :P
Additionly, i spend a lot of time to search for guides ( e.g. the guides to the new ulduar bosses in ulduar ). IMO you should be doing by learning, but there is no way you can do something, if you dont know just how, amirite?
At last I have to confess that sometimes I have the feeling, that I'm playing more often with the interface than the actual game :P I'll upload some pics when I have time for it :3
i guess now is my last chance to convince you to take me, so let me start:
when i heard of wow, that was 2 years ago, i wondered how the hell is ist possible that people are sitting in front of the computer, staring to the back of their character? then i really met one of them, and he explained the game to me. the roles everybody has to fullfil for the whole system to work, aka raiding. i was fascinated that there was so much depth to it. not the skill of the single person is important, but of the whole group. i played wc3 for some time and admit that i was a total loser. the everchanging portions of the fight, reading the movement and strategy of the enemy was never a thing of mine. but wow was totally different. you know what is coming to you. you can prepare. you must be prepared. unfortunately, my time and finance as a normal pupil back then didn't allow me to start wow. i was restricted to lurk wowwiki and making my first steps on privates. but when i made my german a-level i started immediately on officials and i was not disappointed. suddenly i understood the urge, why people are trying to improve themselves: simply because you can. and when i found the wonderful maintankadin forum and tankspot i was really lost into theorycrafting, imo the best part of the game. it does not require quick reaction, endless patience or a brilliant mind, just juggling some numbers.
so i know now what i really want and i want to play together with people who are aiming for the same thing: to make their chracter perfect. So please iron edge, take me to tank for you.
PS: if you think the name is strange, i wanted to name the paladin "bananana", but it was already used, so i took anananas, from the german word "ananas" = pineapple
-
Ni hao!
You seem commited to what you're playing, i like that :)
Nothing to complain about.
I can say im supportive for Ananas :P
I just hope you're as good at the trigger as you are in theory. I know alot of people that do good with numbers but have poor execution.
Btw we raid 1 day a week, two if thar be fail at sarth 3D, and we have all the possible achievments/drakes there are :)
-
Hi!
Thanks for the great application :)
Judging by your experience and your expectation for 2 raids a week, you're looking to join the B raid -- they raid just Monday and Tuesday, and are currently trying to recruit more, to prepare for Ulduar!
Grilldyret is the raid leader there, so it's up to him.
Another doctor would be nice too...!

- Location: Homburg (a (too) little town in Germany) where im forced to live
you forced? hopes you explain that why?
well written.. GL with your application mate
-
Hey hey, that is a very nicley written application.
You seem to enjoy both your class and alot of the aspects in the game.
Good luck with your application. And Chinese food is awesome !
-
I normally skim wall of text apps, but I found yours very readable. Well written.
As for the raid schedule, as Shalalalalalalala said, we currently only raid 1 or 2 days a week because that's all we need to raid - Once Ulduar hits, we'll be raiding 4 days a week. As Dell mentions, we do have a second raid group that raids 2 days a week, and will continue to do so during Ulduar. It's not a progress raid group, though, just a bunch of hardcore casuals!
Anyway, good luck!
-
ananas is pineapple in turkish. I wonder if it is a loan word from chiniese...
-
I fully support ALL medical students!! Its been lonely in here!
-
avatar fags, take a room!
-
Even though there was a lack of colours this was a very nicely written application. Enjoyed the read. :)
Also, ananas is the Norwegian word for pineapple as well. Seemingly the name for the fruit in many languages. Probably from the latin name of the fruit; Ananas comosus.
-
oh wow, thanks for all the postivie responses to my application.
and as i can see, there is a great variety of nation in iron edge, thats great!
pineapple in chinese would be "bo lo", so not really influenced by latin :3
yeah it would be cool to be done with everything in just one day, but if more are neccessary, i can of course play every day.
-
You didn't respond to me:
You understand if you want to raid 2 times a week, this is an application for the B raid, and not the A raid?
A-raid will raid 4 times a week in Ulduar.
-
ah, now i understand. so the B raid are hardcore casuals and the A raiders are hardcore hardcores? i dont think 4 days a week would be a problem to me, as long as you dont see a problem fitting me into the A raid. altogether i would be happy to raid anything at all.
@eyehole: it's a joke we're telling here because homburg is such a small town (40k inhabitants maybe) and nearly everybody is trying to get somewhere else (;
-
There are a few things you need to be OK with if you want to apply to the B-raid..
Not trying to destroy your image of our guild, I just don't want you to transfer your character hoping to raid with a group of the most serious perfectionists out there, to then discover we are less serious and do not fit your needs.
The second Iron Edge raid group will be raiding 2 days a week through Ulduar, which will naturally limit our progress. We have yet to complete a lot of raiding achievements. If you saw our percentage on some site, that would be the work of the main raid. The general tone on Ventrilo during raids is light. The raid is talking about trivial subjects during trash, and I try to keep the conversation related to the task at hand while fighting a boss. This is likely to change in Ulduar, though, as there is a lot of new stuff to understand and execute.
You seem like a good and dedicated player, and I would seriously consider you a great applicant for the B-raid if you choose to apply to us. But, as I said, you will need to be fine with the points stated above!
-
Your experience and gear isn't adequate for the A raid, I think.
-
i like quiet and small places more...
-
is it possible to chat or to talk on vent/ts2? i guess it would be problematic to exchange online through forum :3

Im sure you could always join IRC aswell.
-
ahhh, somehow, i can't join you on irc anymore ):
but i have made up my mind anyway and considered the points grilldyret made and i really want to join you to support the b-raid. dunemaul is a nice, estabilished and active server ( at least according to warcraftrealms.com ) (and sry for not writing for some days, it's quite stressful right now. ) and my focus other than finding a good guild is to find a good realm.
-
Yeah, ur just missing ur wep enc as far as i could see and a bit of gear, so the B raid would prob be ur safe bet.
-
You made me laugh a couple of times in a few seconds after joining IRC... so you have my vote! COME COME!
-
Yeah, ur just missing ur wep enc as far as i could see and a bit of gear, so the B raid would prob be ur safe bet.
wep enc? is this ur abbreviation for weapon enchant? in this case i'm so not! unfortunately titansteel weapon chain counts as a enchant, and because i like it more than mongoose (barf) i'm using this one.
@dell: thx, but have you been present? or did u only read the log? anyway, whats the protocol? is everybody going to have to vote and when its unamous im in?
-
Nah, tyranny rules here!
Just migrate over, and we'll try to do something with you.
We could do with some more Chinese Germans around here!

I didn't know there was bird poop in berliner.

I think this is getting abit out of hand!
Someoneone claiming ananas to be a Chinese word, and others claiming it to be Latin.
This needs clarification.
The word "Ananas" origins from indian tribes in the Carribean, where they called it "anana" (you know tribes and their simpleminded language^^).
The word "anana" ment "superb fruit", which I can agree on.
Anyways, I like you, chineese boy! ;o)
