Hail to the Prince!

I'm glad he's dead. The last twenty years can't have been great for him.

He was once the greatest pop artist alive. How he fell from grace... Poor guy.

And now he'll be rightfully remembered for some of the greatest music ever made. Hooray!

RIP.

Yep - he sure did lose his marbles late 80's.. And yeah - hopefully he'll be remembered for the good times, and for an example of how things can go wrong if you don't get your shit together.

We had a pretty lengthy talk on vent about it I guess.

In all seriousness, I don't know what to think.

On one hand, he used to be made of win.

And on the other, the past 20 years he emmited aids and fail from everywhere, and kept on till some of his fans felt ashamed of him.

I really don't know what to think.

The power of art, dude...

You can't really take away from him the awesome body of work that he created throughout his 20 year reign as the King of Pop.

Sure, he fell from grace, but a) that wasn't entirely his fault and b) who cares.

It's not that we're in love with the person anyway, we're in love with the music. The same way you're not really in love with a film star, you're in love with his/her films.

Artists are raised up above the rest of society in such a way that you probably shouldn't think of them as 'people' or 'aw, I'll miss him' or 'damn, that guy's sick'. To be honest, you have absolutely no idea who or what he is -- only that his artistic creation -- his MUSIC -- was absolutely awesome.

And thus he should RIP. Or turn into a zombie and lurch around the streets singing and dancing. Whatever works.

R.I.P

Seems like he needed peace.

That man was broken by success.

He was a great performer. It's almost sad that he didnt die younger so he could join the ranks of - Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, Jim Morrison, Kurt Cobain etc.

That man was broken by success.

Yes and no. His youth wasn't exactly normal. The abuse from his father when he didn't want to sing with jackson five or whenever he made mistake during concerts doesn't really help to create a 'normal' personality.

It all went downhill when he got hit in the face with the fireworks.

R.I.P. tbh.

He was a great artist. Though he let people get the best of him. And he was kind of a freak.

MJ was king of pop but the god is SIGN HERE (http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x6kvu0_dirty-mind-1980_music). That is damn sexy even from my male white middle-aged perspective.

No.

He's Jehovas Witness though, he won't be invited in my house.

Well imo Jackson was the whipping boy of pop, yeah he might've had some good moves but generally speaking his lyrics were weak and his fall from grace was more down to him being a celebrity. His own warped perspective of reality was so distorted from that of the common man he probably thought he was literally king and could get away with whatever he felt like doing.

Tbh all that bs about how he had a skin condition that turned him whiter than the average scandinavian made me feel sorry for him, anyone that thought it would be better to be white to be accepted than to be their natural skin tone should ask themselves the simple question 'am I MJ?' he's the only black guy that I know that would stoop so low in order to be 'accepted' into such a messed up society such as that which exists in the USA.

Either way he's a bit like marmite (especially in the eyes of a lot of people) as in you love him or hate him, your decision, just don't get caught up in all the media hype which is sure to follow.

It's ok though

Michael Jackson's new album "Chiller" is said to be doing well

Wolf, he sold 750 million albums... he's certainly not 'marmite'.

I think you need to appreciate that you might be representing a minority viewpoint there...

Well Wolf if you like him or not, with his music he set some standards in the music industry. Not only dancing cheography (sp?) wise but also in the "ow" "aiy" sounds/scream whatever you want to call it. Which is btw still being used by shitloads of (wannabe) artists all around the world.

I know it's all a mather of personal taste and i personally like other music more but it doesn't takes away the fact he made some timeless masterpieces, pure diamonds and classics that people still love in let's say OVER 9000 YEARS!

But talking about him being a total freak common, give the man some respect. What do you expect from a person who is already a huge star from the age of 5 and having no normal life/childhood whatsoever, let alone stand the change to build up some kind of stable/normalish life or get some rest/personal time. I think 99% of the people will turn to become total wacko like he eventually became to be, either that or they kill themself before the age of 30 with drugs, alcohol or whatever. (Everyone can make a list of atleast 10 artist i guess.)
I think you just watched the gossip media to much.
(Go listen to David Bowie's song Fame ;) )
Problem i guess, is that you just full go against the media hype, use the "wacko" thingy against him and totaly forget what he ment as an artist.
(Because that's hopefully how people remember him in let's say 50+ years.)

just my 2 cents.

P.S. I just hope his kids can finally put of those freaky masks and life a normal life without being hunted down by the same media Wolf made his opinion about MJ on.

Prince is just gay.

Gosh - Inphy is made of überfail!

Here they are both on the same stage (excuse the shit sound, it's more for the 'performance'...):

Whoa - talk about being loaded...

I wouldn't call him the god of "pop" thou :P

Hah. What an awesome combo...

I don't think you could get more male awesomeness on one stage at the same time...

(I've recently been listening through Prince's discography and some of it's fantastic -- he's one of those few 'all round' musical geniuses. Lovely orchestral stuff in places...)

Prince rocks as long as he doesn't do ballads, which 98% sound the same and are way too cheesy.

Nice one, looks like Prince and Mr Dynamite had some Colombian connection going on there that night :)

I was trying to be objective in my view, something the media is generally crap at! I didn't find the 'MJ experience' bad I just prefer to listen to different music. I know about his shitty upbringing but think its more down to the way he was brought up in the media spotlight that made him turn out the way he did, probably not his own choice.

As for all of the 'kiddie fiddling' he was accused of, if it'd only happened once then yeah I'd agree someone was out to get a piece of the pie. But he had more come out of the closet during the latter stages of his 'illustrious career' so you have to weigh up what you know versus what you're being told.

'Sarah Fawcett dies and goes to heaven, when she arrives God appears and say 'Sarah you've been very good in your life so I'll grant you one wish, what would you like?' Sararh thinks about it and then says 'I want children to be safe from harm' so God killed Michael Jackson... :P

Don't blame your over-the-top pig-headedness on it being 10am...

You are the classic hater-for-the-sake-of-someone-having-to-do-the-heating.

Nothing irks me more than self-regimented ignorance. Ugh.

Easy now, like I said I didn't mind his music, sure he was talented in his hay-day but I prefer different music. The joke I added at the end was sent given to me last night, its not one I made up. I'd list my music collection but wouldn't want to bring about a wall-of-text or indeed seem the braggart.

The way I see it, time is precious and when you're not doing something you enjoy in your own time then you're living a lie.

Your first response said nothing even remotely good about the guy -- just that he was some whipping boy, and that he was like marmite (and you hardly suggested you were in the 'love it' category).

I appreciate the need to 'play the opposition', but MJ was far, far more than just some 'whipping boy' of the pop industry. You need to look at the history of music and the history of his producer to fully appreciate the impact they've had on the industry.

Don't insult the guy just for the sake of insulting him. At least get a proper, opinionated point of view -- don't just echo something you've read or heard somewhere else. Cheers!

People can create something which can be loved by a certain fanbase, but others usually beleive it's not worth watching or listening. But only a few can make something for everyone and MJ was one of those few people. There will never be anyone like him again, only smaller bands now who share their music from the internet. Im just glad we had the chance to witness this.

Oh and Wolf, I don't know what kind of 'music' you enjoy but Im pretty sure the people you listen to have deep respect for MJ.
