Awesome game.

It's an FPS with RPG elements (Like fallout 3, I would say.) with 4 player co-op, there is some insane amount of guns (I've found about 200...) game is just amazing, I can't really describe it.

it's out 30th if you wait, but if you are a pirate, you can get the torrent of it now.

Thread hijaaaack!

L4D2 is soon, if you're gonna spend money with the intention of post-raid/no-raid-night guild teambased shooty shenanigans, I suggest that! L4D1 was very heavily played by IE for a long while, and L4D2 looks to solve the longevity problems that even that game had. Multiplayer demo is tomorrow, available for people prepurchasing L4D2 through steam. Full release is 18th November!

Not that Borderlands doesn't look fun.

The people I spoke to about L4D that had played it all said it was very good and entertaining for about 4 hours and then it got mighty boring very fast. So I don't know if buying L4D2 is going to be worth the money.

If you only play the 'singleplayer' stuff I guess it gets boring. The versus mode is awesome!

Just played a bit of Borderlands (PIRATE HARRR), not my type of game, but still quite fun.

Four hours?! Man, we played this after raids for like 4 months. It's one of the most re-playable and exciting games going - no other game has created such a great deal of general excitement when we get 4v4 games, really magic stuff. Huge huge longevity, and this is before you even get into custom maps (there's one modelled on the original silent hill game, which is incredibly well done with map-accurate recreations of the hospital, the streets, the school, the houses you go through... I was pretty blown away playing that one with sint, kenshin and malik/narcotics/bison/bouth, whichever name you know him by :P)

I could understand if they'd only played single player, or maybe campaign ('PvE' if you will :P - 4 vs Computer) on only the default maps maybe. I think the single player in L4D is almost the definition of 'token', it's 100% a multiplayer game.

Could always just get both?

I know I have!

And yes l4d2 demo out today

Brick is also the best one out of all 3, the Hunter feels very very weak, but I've been playing with AMERICANS, so my sniper bullets took about 0.75 to reach the target...and by that time they had moved.

Brick just runs around screaming at people while punching them in the face.

You don't technically need to "get" Borderlands.  There is no multiplayer cd-key shit; you just need a gamespy account.  Get downloading!

Lol free borderlands is free! And really really good. A bit buggy here and there but I admit I am addicted. :) Definitely recommend it to all.

definitely a good time sink, and very competant as an action rpg - the new toys you get from time to time are very entertaining too seeing what effects they have. That said, the variation in guns is a great deal more limited than is often made out. 99% of the time you find yourself using on of the 6-10 basic styles of weapon, with small variations (damage, clip size, scope zoom, nothing that really affects what the weapon feels like to use). The skill trees feel a little unpolished too, and there are some small niggles that really are big oversights, e.g. items can have a bunch of effects on them, but tooltips can only ever show up to 4 - even if there are more. On a game where your character's ability depends almost entirely on item choice, not knowing what the item actually has on it is totally daft.

I don't know how much lasting appeal it'll have to be totally honest, especially considering that if people are at different stages of quests it feels quikly like a pickle to try and work with. Maybe a month ish. If the dev drops some DLC (pretty likely if game sales are good) then it could extend a bit more.

Worth mentioning that as a PC port it's sadly got all the classic signs of lazy console->PC games - mouse acceleration, inadequete mouse speed settings, tiny FOV, just the general way you're required to go edit ini files and whatnot and some things you can't workaround.

Somewhere between a seven and an eight out of ten for me.

Me and Kesh at second playthrough now, about halfway...it's much harder, and expecting the 3rd playthrough to be insane, as we are dying now!
