Bonjour Iron Edge,
Personal information
My name is Lex,I am from England in the UK. My main is a Shaman named Lexmeister(Imaginative internet alias is imaginative!) I am currently studying for a Masters degree in Chemistry at University studying pollutants using fricken laser beams. When I'm not studying, I cycle for the local cycling club, tutor school students for their exams and play a bunch of other games(HoN,L4D,DoW2).
Character information
My Shaman Lexmeister is and always has been specced resto. I would currently see my gear as lacking as I have not yet got the triumphs for some of the shinier pieces(which I'm working on). Though, I am reluctant to upgrade to 4xt9 as I love my riptide cd bonus so hard but I'll see how things go when I come to that after chucking in a new trinket.

Gemming and enchants
I regularly look at my class/spec in elitistjerks.com which helped me gem a little such as my meta gem which is recommended to healers but I take it on board and then gem taking into account the stats which I deem I need in a raid with how I play. I therefore like to have a mix of haste/a bit of Mp5 to keep me ticking over and some spellpower(but not very much).
As for my enchants, it's fairly standard to all healers what enchants we all have so rather than going through them all as there's only one real choice for the pieces(afaik) I will just describe it as I have sp/haste/mp5 enchants in general as they are the stats which matter to me as a restosham.
One improvement I am working on is getting the epic SoH shoulder enchant which will come shortly.

Firstly, I decided to put my points in the Totemic focus talent as I rarely use Healing Wave in anything but the macro for Tidal Force/Nature's Swiftness/Healing Wave which is instant cast.
Not to sound lazy, but the rest of my spec relies on increased healing through the spells cast in a raid and less mana cost/more mana recovery and go for anything to benefit the raid but when it comes to 25mans I'm a bit meh towards enhanced totems and improved reincarnation as enhancement shammies go for the totems/or ele shammies negate the improved FT. Either way, if its needed I will respec for best raid setup. Any questions are always welcome with respect to any particular talent placement. Pointers are always welcome as I don't get to speak to many other resto shaman in RsR!
Attunements
With RsR, I have cleared Naxx10/25, Maly10/25, Ulduar10 with a bunch of hard modes which are available through my armoury link and ToC10. Unfortunately we were not, as a guild able to complete more content due to a lot of problems with organisation.
Now you may look at my brief and underwhelming attunements and dismiss me as inexperienced. I would say though that I am always willing to listen and know the tactics for every fight I will raid. I have had brief raid leading experience during our hard mode content and learn from my mistakes. I feel it is time now, after leaving RsR to get moving on some hard content as the normal stuff really doesn't stretch me which makes the game boring and I might turn to pvp before long :O.
Raiding times
I am able to raid on any day you would like due to being available every evening. However, I am specifically applying to B raid as I believe I can fit it around my studies well to raid 2/3 a week.^^
Why did I leave my former guild and now aspire to join Iron Edge?
Well, I have been in RsR for some time now. Being an officer has been truly excellent and I can say that I really have enjoyed my time in that guild and the guys are truly ledge.
However, it is time for things to change. I have worked very hard to try and make that guild as good as it can be with Morkraw and the other officers and we have cleared a lot of content which I am proud of. I feel though, that I'm really not getting to the content which keeps me interested often enough in RsR, the hard modes we have done already were legendary but the recoil that hits us when we down one is so immense that it takes us a while to get another one down. People leave, drama ensues and I end up back to square one which is becoming tedious. I would like to be a part of a consistent guild which will have players who listen(no offence to the rsr guys), pay attention to their surroundings and get some good challenging content down.
What can I offer to Iron Edge?
I believe myself to be a mature guy with a sense of humour but knows how to srs bsns when it is needed.I follow raidleaders orders and always believe I can improve. I am commited to turning up to raids on time, flasked, fooded and potioned up!
Srs Bsns
My favourite pokemon is Gyrados because its so damn satisfying to see that useless piece of sh*t magikarp become something so op :O.
Regards,
The Lex.
-
LEX, IS IT YOU?!
-
I'm not the same Lex you had in IE in Molten core^^, the only reason I know that's most likely what you mean is cos I had a similar conversation with Grilldyret a while back!
-
My favourite pokemon is Gyrados because its so damn satisfying to see that useless piece of sh*t magikarp become something so op :O.
Amen!
-
Whats with the gemming.. pure mp/5?
-
Hmm, yeah I would have to say perhaps I overshot it a bit with the mp5 looking over it again. Problem was that in our raids mana would be a real issue for me. In an ideal world I'd like to have some moar haste but as I said earlier...Suggestions are always welcome :D.
-
Something else I wanted to mention was about my totem, I also have the steamcallers totem for chain heal but I also used my furious glad depending on the composition of our raids. As for the wrist, in every raid I have done so far...Nothing has been better sob :(
-
Are you sure you're not the old Lex...?
I can see you have some old activity on the forum.
-
No really...I am NEW LEX :D. This is the first account I have made on this forum.
If you would like verification I can point you in the direction of Mooifurhorny or Morkraw who know me irl ^^.
-
Nice to see an application with a lot of effort put in! And I chose Gyrados in my app too, so kudos! :D You play HoN and L4D, which is good.
Anyway, were in the UK are you from? And what Uni are you studying at?
Good luck with the application, being a Resto Shaman won't be easy, you have Hugman and Grilly to contend with! Both raid officers! :P
-
I go to the Uni of Leicester^^, from roughly the same area too...Just far enough away from the parents so they can't come visit but close enough I can pillage their food!
-
and play a bunch of other games(HoN,L4D,DoW2).
You had me at "HoN".
Good application!
-
THIS.
I go to the Uni of Leicester^^, from roughly the same area too...Just far enough away from the parents so they can't come visit but close enough I can pillage their food!
From Manchester here, I hope you get in so I can see how good you are at HoN! :P
-
If moonifyourhorny posts that your are a good enough player im sure that will significantly improve your chances at least in my view :) also do you mind going ench or elemental? as grilly and hugman are close to a 100% active and both resto :) Gl with the app and you will prob get a answer sunday or monday so dont get saved to 25man!
-
also do you mind going ench or elemental?
Shamans have an enchanting tree now?
-
One of my biggest pet-hates... the inability to spell the word 'enhancement'.
But I used to joke about enchantment shaman, running around with little fairy wings...
-
Forum activity januari 2008...
Like dell said.... wtf?
-
I managed to have a chat with Delling in game and sorted this out, seems to be just a really random coincidence of someone else using the same name as me or something? I'm still unsure how it happened...or how I could create an account with the same name as someone else as it'd tell me invalid name surely? Ah well.
-
Naw, it's the same IP address. But it's possible that someone else using the same IP could have visited. Or... *shrug* -- doesn't really matter.
As I said in-game, who cares who you are. You have a good app, some friends in the guild, and seemingly a nice guy... go for it!
-
Impressive app indeed, and I think I can remember raiding with you in the past and getting a good impression.
The only thing is trinket and gem choices.
I'm no pro resto shaman but I think Ideally you want to chose between haste OR int for gemming.
Int would be for tank healing, so you would drop mp5 and other gems , aswell as chain heal talent and take healing way.
However you could also spec improved chain heal and stack haste (like I do with my shaman http://eu.wowarmory.com/character-sheet.xml?r=Dunemaul&n=Bloodlustlol ) , but ofc you still need mana regen to keep healing up, but theorists say you would get enough mp5 from gear anyway.
I guess the spec would coincide with whatever the B-Team would need you for if you got accepted though ^^
-
ARE YOU A FUNNY GUY?
WILL YOU AID ME IN THE PULLING OF WHELPS?
If so, I approve.
-
Haste > SP > Int > MP5 for tank and raid heal as well. The Healing focus is the one of the most have talent! I don't know anything about your healing style, but I can't imagine that how do you use the lhw totem without the lhw glyph… if you use hw than the naxx totem is better. Or try that glyph!
Other things are OK.
Good luck and haste haste haste!
-
Hmm, it looks very much like I'd benefit a lot from having two PvE specs from what you guys are saying, I suppose I only had one because the toc10 farming was getting a bit dull I needed some pvp! I'd be happy to get another PvE tank/raid specific spec.
As for the Healing Focus, I can also see how that one would help...Especially for the PVP encounter but then I use my pvp spec which has LHW glyph/Healing focus which isn't ideal. I shall change it!^^
Ah, as for the mp5 I think I'm still just conditioned to stack a bit of mp5 to keep up with those holy priests pre mp5 buff :D!
Vorte, I SHALL AID YOU IN THE PULLING OF WHELPS AND THE DEPLOYMENT OF TRAINS SAH.

Need... more... trains...

I was talking to Sattalol of Cata and he seems to think stacking int is more worthwhile for tank healing (+ Using healing wave , paladin style), are you sure haste is so valuable even for tank healing ? (I appreciate you're a very much better Resto shaman than I , but I wana know for sure ^^)
-
It is Snowie, until 670ish haste is very important for pala's as well. Not important enough to gem for, but enough to pick gear with haste on it over other extra stats.
-
My opinion about the resto shaman is different. Yes we can heal like a paladin with a effective Healing Way talent. And If you do it, you really need int like every other source of mana, because like paladins you have to chain cast, since it has nearly 2sec cast time (1.4-1.3 with Tidal Waves). It is too much wait to the hit and start casting. If you really want to heal the tank with healing wave, you have 2 option (CH, HW, HW and some random riptide or Riptide, Hw, Hw, Hw). For all of these of course you will need a really big mana base and regeneration. From int you will gain as additional crit and sp, what is useful too.
But, and there is the point The resto shaman can’t compete with Paladins’ effective one target heal or their mana pool. The only chance to be valuable for raids is that if you can add some extra stuff to the heal arsenal, at the tank heal our only advantage against paladins the rapid burns heal, what is the lhw and riptide combo. Now I can cast it in 1,1 sec and with the Tidal Wave buff I can easily handle the -10% demage buff on 3-4 target. And with the LHW glyph the spell really effective on a target, I think it is more effective than the HW, since it land in a second against the paladin’s Holy Light. And of course you can spam it like a mad horse, without any int or mp5 gem. In additional you can easily win a heal race in a full haste gear any fight where you can use CHAIN HEAL. Chain heal the other thing, why I think haste is more powerful, at the good time to the good target you can save the hole group life. And it is needed to the Ch HW HW rotation, what is give you the highest HPS (I think not the highest effective HPS). Ch isn’t so powerful as was, but it will useless if you can’t cast it in 1.8 sec.
My final answer is that: Yes I think the haste is more worthwhile and our only chance to be as valuable as priests and paladins. Always need to find our strengths and improve them, not try to find a way to hide our weakness. That is the different between the int and haste gems.
-
But if you're stacking int, the only benefit I can see of that over mp5 for raids is that the mana tide gives you more mana. Other than that you spend the entire fight <100% mana which makes the additional mp5 which regens while casting more valuable than the additional mana provided by int doesn't it? Say 3k mana at the start or 100mp5? Fights lasting 5mins or so would easily yield more mana.
But the haste...I have to agree with the comment about making the Shaman keep up with the healing of other classes as the Riptide+LHW combo with the increased crit chance is win and quick and fast critheals save those who dwell in fires far too long for my poor old heart.
Now I haven't been in any of your 25man raids yet, but I know your guys wouldn't make half the mistakes I'm used to which waste valuable mana. Imo this is a reason to drop some of my mp5 gems but not stack haste completely but rather find some balance as I think both are needed...As I said I'd have to have actually been in a raid to be able to fully understand what I'd need to adjust with my playstyle.
This may be 'hiding our weaknesses' which I agree with, but I suppose my thinking only works for situations where the fight goes on much longer than it should due to dps dying, or additional mana strain due to healers dying. Assuming everyone does their job right haste is the way forward imo but I'm just pessimistic I suppose!
-
more int, more mana from replenish!
-
Doh, didn't think about that one! But after having a closer look there is a definite advantage in socketing int and not having mp5 gems. The extra mana gives an ample amount of mp5 too which I didn't take into account. So the argument is indeed back to int or haste!
In a 25man raid, with all the buffs I can't seem to think I would need any more mp5 as my items always have it on them so I think an ample supply of haste gems would probably be my best bet I think which also seems to be the general opinion.^^
-
Surprise Lex!
Awesome Shaman, great guy.
What more do you want Iron Edge?!
- Wryzeth (RSR), spying IE forums since 2005.
RAUUUUUUUSSSSS!
-
Int gives you spellpower, max mana and crit. Also replenishment is your main source of mana regen. Not that mp/5 is bad, but its just inferior to intellect. Int is yellow and mp/5 is blue tho.. You should know all this if you actively read EJ forums. Kinda basic knowledge
-
Weeeeell previously I hadn't considered it...and now I have and it has been taken into account.^^ Though there still are improvements I'm making, just taking me some time :D.
PS rauuuuuus! Thia :D
-
Thanks for the good application! The big concern is that you'd be our third resto shaman, and we can't be havin' none of that shit. Do you have a viable offspec? If not, me or hug would have to go full time DPS (which I wouldn't mind, if only I could get the gear for it)
-
LOLMENTAL!!!
-
Thanks Grill, unfortunately I don't have a viable offspec just yet but I have been throwing those conquests into working on an enhancement set. It's still a bit shitty and I'm not as well versed in the ol' enhancement tree...especially by the high standards expected so I can only be confident in the sexy tree that is resto :(.
Now I'm not sure what you're like on locks, but if dps is something you/Hugman would rather avoid with your shammies then I do have a reasonably geared destruction warlock which I would also be happy to use. He is in pvp gear at the moment so I'm going to change before logging this evening.^^ To describe him, he has four conquerors 226/ one triumph 232, item level 200 trinkets/219 weapon/213 wand/219 belt/213 wrist/213 back/226 neck/213 feet/ 200/213 rings.(just to give you an idea if armoury doesn't update). Of course I'd rather go with me ol shammy as I really enjoy playing him :D
-
I think we have all the warlocks we need atm. We really need a elemental shaman tho so GOGO socket all your gear with hit, climb the dpsmeter to the top and lick in gods holy asscrack, because that's what the Braid really need.
Good luck with sneaking past grillys and hugs defence
-
Just gief hug as enh <3, he is probably better geared enh than most of our 'main' dpsing dkp hogs! :P
-
ARE YOU A FUNNY GUY?
WILL YOU AID ME IN THE PULLING OF WHELPS?
If so, I approve.
Vorte, I SHALL AID YOU IN THE PULLING OF WHELPS AND THE DEPLOYMENT OF TRAINS SAH.
B-raid rule number 1: You never listen to Vorte.
Regarding the Resto Shaman discussion, most of it has already been said by Sparrow/Kocian, though i normally prefer gemming int, (as int = manapool/crit/WSmp5 = more procs from AA/AH/), i never go oom in 25man raids, and gemming mp5 is normally a waste, unless blue slots. I notice Spuzi and Kocian go full haste gems, but its more a matter of preference.
As for your application. You have decent enough gear, good experience, and sound like a nice guy. You are a Troll though, and I am not sure if some of our more, shall we say "mentally unstable" shamans in the guild would be able to deal with this concept. If we needed an resto shaman, i would have given you a trial without a second thought, however we weren't really looking for one.
The situation is this, we have two extremly stable, awesome geared, resto shamans in the B-raid (myself and Grilly). Shaman wise, we only needed a Elemental shaman.
Now i see from your post that you mentioned a warlock, and shaman offspecs, etc, but you are really passionate about being a resto, and thats what you like. So i wouldn't take you as your lock or ask you to go another spec as main, its not your passion.
So we could make this work by taking you on as our 3rd resto shaman, thought its not ideal. It would mean that either some raids we have 3 resto healers, or some raids i go enhance (which i don't mind doing, but not all the time, as its easier to raid lead, and carry the other healers as resto 8)) or sometimes we will ask you to sit out on standby dkp for certain bosses.
Like i said its not ideal, but if you are up for it, we could give it a try; as i am reluctant to pass on a potentially good B-raider, because of the class/spec he plays being full.
If you are online tonight about 7:15pm server time, and unsaved to TOC 25 normal, give me or Grilly a whisper, and maybe we can get you a trial spot.
