Title: Rise of Nations: Throne and Patriots, let's play some?
Post by: Shiftey on June 21, 2010, 04:50:45 pm
So now that we are all civved out for a moment/waiting for civ5, we could pick up something else.

RoN is a slow-paced RTS that is a bit like civ, you build cities, improvements, buildings around, gather many resources, build an army and crush everyone. It even has wonders!.

A large number of different victory conditions and game styles offer a variety of fun (assassination game mode particulary sounds fun, you get a secret goal with a target nation to destroy). You can win games by sudden dath of capital city (you can move capital city as you please) or go for total conquest.

Games spread is from ancient time until advanced information age, with missile shields, global governments and stealth bombers (oh how I love those) and artifficial intelligence that makes all units build instantly, advanced techs can be disabled

Nuclear weapons are of course present, in two options, smaller, shitter ones, or more more MORE destructive ICBMs (wipes out everything on the screen) with a nice thing called Armageddon Timer, you can only use so many nukes before the world goes kaboom and everybody loses (kind of doomsday, nobody wins)

We can set the game speed to slow, then you have even more time then in civ for turns, games on small maps dont take very long, on normal speed, we can be done in hour or two.

There is also a possibility to set different end age, I like playing to englightement age with cannons and rifles, it's lovely.

About the game modes, we can play survival of the fittest, or diplomacy or that assassination or about a dozen more.

I let you think about it, here's a public torrent link, I dont know if it works, should be up to date as comments suggest

Sounds cool!

But what about server options? Does someone have to leave it open all the time?

generally somebody just hosts it, I think you can save the game and load up later, but that shouldnt be an issue, since the game shouldnt take more than few hours (even the big ones take like 5, 6 hours max in extreme cases)

I could buy Sins if we go for MP, cause there is no real up to date torrent version and Rise of Legends is actually very similar game style.

And this is not a very hard game, build shit, kill shit, win :)

sins of a solar empire trinity is all 3 combined
that is the full game and 2 mini expensions
besides i dont have sins installed anyway so no real need to buy it anyway

not sure if its true but as far as i know a game with the largest map size can take up to 3 days or something to complete and you can save i think

yes Trinity, I know, but the thing is, the was a small patch for the last one, that is downloadable only through impulse store, the patch was fixing multiplayer issues unfortunately :) so if we want to play that, everybody has to buy the game

and I am not sure, I used to play games of 4v4 with each alliance on a separate island, it took like 6 hours to win if we sucked
