Hello Iron Edge!
You may remember my former PvE application (http://xoops.iron-edge.co.uk/forum-new/index.php?topic=3918 (http://xoops.iron-edge.co.uk/forum-new/index.php?topic=3918)) from a while back. My history didn't change so there's still a lot of valid information back there. Right now, I'm applying with my Disc (yes Vorte, disc) Priest Yathezaï (http://eu.wowarmory.com/character-sheet.xml?r=Dunemaul&cn=Yatheza%C3%AF) for a PvP spot in Iron Edge. Anyway, I'll try to keep it a bit shorter this time and focus mostly on the things that changed. A "short" history to start with, followed with the present situation. I already apologize for an inevitable wall of text.
The main change is my transition from PvE (embodied by my Death Knight) to PvP (my Priest). After being denied for Iron Edge back in April 2009 I stuck around in Red Sun Rising, since it was either you guys or nothing. But over time, a long time, Red Sun Rising has decayed and it's no longer what it used to be. In this time a lot of people left for other guilds, went extremely casual or stopped playing. At the same time, I found new interest in PvPing, because it was a new way for me to play competitive without relying on 9 or 24 other people.
I've been playing since 2005 but truth to be told, PvP-wise I've not much worth mentioning until last season. On my Warrior I battlegrounded upto Stone Guard during the holidays when there was no PvE to do. When TBC started, I did 10 games a week to get some "DPS-gear". Nothing changed until Season 4 when I leveled an alt Priest. I played a bit more arena at this time, played some 5's with Oran (Serbon), Gardash (Draggi), Cinn and Razor since they needed a Priest, but honestly, I didn't prepare for arena the same way I did for PvE. I believe I played around the 1800-1900 bracket, but since it wasn't my main focus at all it didn't really mean anything to me. I'm sure I was pretty terrible, looking back now. It's a time I don't really recall a lot about, at least not PvP-wise. And that's what I'm here for, aye? Moving ahead.
Season 5, Death Knight heaven...and I didn't abuse it at all! I got Challenger (as DK in Season 5, I'm sure it's unique) for being 1500 rated and in a team with 23 matches played. Ugh, how I wish I started PvPing earlier...
Season 6, same story. Just playing with guildies a bit, more for the Achievement Points than an interest in Arena. Very active PvE-wise, worst Death Knight on Dunemaul arena-wise probably.
Now it (finally) starts to get interesting. In Season 7 when RSR started falling apart, I got interested in Arena and asked Draggi (Disc) who was in RSR at the time to play some games with me. After offering him some money he agreed and we started playing. I'm not sure if some of you ever played with Draggi...it was wonderful. Being the PvE hero I was I really had no idea how arena worked and he managed to point that out to me in many, many ways. But he was a great coach and we climbed every single week, until I could finally replace my Betrayer of Humanity with the tier 2 weapon. The difference was huge and since I'm a fast learner he actually started to believe in me. We topped at 2150 in 2's and my gear was still aweful. Death Knight nerfs came in and the non double-dps comps took forever to win. He grew bored and we stopped playing together, but I learned an immense amount about arena. I started reading ArenaJunkies seriously, watched movies of the pro's on WCM, and so on. All I did was dueling in Durotar every single day until I found multiple strategies to win, or to win with the least amount of cooldowns used.
In the meanwhile, I leveled my Priest from 70 to 80 in about 8 days and started gearing her up in the last few weeks of Season 7. I absolutely loved my Priest but I also didn't want to give up 8.5k achievement points on my Death Knight...well, when I finally realized that was too dumb to be true I pretty much completely ditched him, hit 1800 the last day of Season 7 on my Priest and bought the weapon when the season was over. There I was, 50% of my gear being Brutal, Vindicator and some other leftover parts...
...but it didn't matter. Disc is awesome and it fits my personal playstyle into perfection. The season was over but I wanted more, more and more. I ditched everything WoW-wise to become a better Priest. And I did become a better Priest.
Season 8: With a guildie named Gnomeater (he migrated away) who never hit 1900+ in his prior 7 seasons we hit 2.3k in 2's as Disc/MM Hunter. My gear, until recently, was pretty much full Furious. Since we were quite confident in our skills we found a 3's partner in Gnomeater's friend Entague, a Ret Paladin. It wasn't really succesful. We topped somewhere in the 1900's but I started to feel like I was being held back a lot. At this point Gnomeater migrated away without a word, I left all my teams and played with quite some people in various setups. Most noteworthy of them all was playing with Freecolor/Wodocolor at 2.4k MMR in 2's.
In 3's I mainly tried RMP and Ele/Frost/Disc with anyone that was free, since double healer looked so mind-numbingly boring that I never even tried it. Some people I played with are Deforcer, Mirlol, Freecolor, Nedflanderz, even Vorte on his Mage and Steamrollem. But most teams either went inactive or had a rager in it (I can't play with ragers, it ruins all the fun for me) so once again I had no teams and even though I played around 2.1-2.2k MMR all the time I never managed to hit it. Oh, and I did some 5's as "supershattercleave", 2 frost mages, 2 shadow priests and 1 resto shaman. We topped at 2.3k MMR or so, but it wasn't really a serious team so I left it after long inactivity.
And once again I felt how hard it was to have people play with you without having anything to back it up. Luckily for me, Cinn's 3's went inactive and since we've been friends since the days I got interested in arena, we had plans for a 3's. But we needed a Shaman. And on a random day, like any other, queueing for some skirmishes, I saw this Shaman standing there. Tier 2 weapon, never heard of him. In a 1600 team with what seemed to be his friends or family. After some words, Cinn talked this Vinaslol into playing with us and we had our 3's. Everything else is history...
Nah, not yet. But it went great. We skyrocketed right from the start and in one week, starting from thursday till tuesday, we climbed up to 2.3k rating and 2.4k MMR, increasing my highest personal rating by over 200 in our first week together. The next week it went even better and the last two evenings playing together we only lost to a Glad PHD, hovering around 88% win. Right now we're 2.5k MMR and 2.4k team rating and ready to climb higher. We all had our vacation in the same two weeks, and since Cinn and I just got back yesterday (and I waited with making this application till I would be back), we're working on going as high as we possibly can.
I'd love to join Iron Edge for the same reasons I applied over a year ago. Now I'm not applying for a raid spot so it's a bit different of course, but Iron Edge seems like a real community. And a guild that's been around for so long must have good leadership and a strong core and I'd love to be a part of that and hopefully participate in getting Iron Edge some Guild Achievements PvP-wise!
You should pick me because I believe I have the potential and the will to become one of the best Discs on this battlegroup. It might take some time before I'm fully adapted to a sudden increase of 400 MMR (and higher), but I learn pretty fast and always work on getting better. According to AJ, I'm the highest Disc horde-side and the second highest Disc on the server in 3's. And since I've literally only played at this level for a bit more than 7 days, there's a lot of room for improvement. I'm a calm, relaxed guy, I don't rage or trashtalk and I love to laugh a lot. I hope I can be an addition to Iron Edge, but I'll let you guys judge that. As sponsors I'm sure Cinn and Smarties can vouch for me. Others may have dueled me in the past or fought me in arena, I welcome your feedback!
That's it for now. It's not the usual application template, but I doubt you're wating for a rehearsal of what I said in the other apply. Thanks for reading! :)

high potential player, eventho the lack of experience probably the best Disc priest remaining on dunemaul.
tbh, its quite an achievement to race up to 2550 mmr when the previously topped rating in 3s was somewhere around 2100, without ever giving me or vinas the feeling that we were carrying.
Yathezaï is one of the few priests on Dunemaul i don't best in duels, a skilled multiclasser, hardcore raider from TBC (not like it matters much when applying for a PVP spot, but i wouldnt be surprised seeing him as an adittion to the B team at some point) and a voice within a comunity. I think from the moment he hit 70 he never actually Red Sun Rising, always being an active and mostly a loyal officer.
for who actually plays arena here (i think its like only Vorte checking these applies). Mass Dispells on bubble are usually off as soon as the bubble hits, fears are always clutch and every match yathe knows a good balance between keeping all 3 alive and putting enough pressure to have raced us to one of the best horde teams on the realm.
oh, and we beat Vorte, Super and some pala.
Get skeeted on,
CY@
(vorte is a terribad pala, CY@@@)

Hay, I am currently awaiting proper internet to get installed at my new place. As far as I'm concerned I'd be OK with a trial on this guy - never impressed, but never depressed me either..! (Like Therash....)

we beat you on two characters you bastard
-
How does that effect what I wrote?
-
Well maybe you should go eat a dick vorte*
Anyway I remember him playing a DK, was a good pve'er in RSR.
I'm sure you're a very good player and all, so please don't take offense to what I'm about to say. But you do play wizzardcleave. And you guys can be all like "apply pressure and keeping teammates alive" but I doubt it's really hard.
I've managed to build up an insane hate for backpeddling wizzards never dying and still putting out rediculous damage, and know that it doesn't take much to achieve high ratings this way. Since Cinn is so optimistic about you I'm sure you're a great player, it's just a shame that you're wasting your talents on the biggest cheese in WoW.

while absolutely a valid point Rash, 40-50% of WoW arena is wizardcleave atm, the other 30% plays some form of beastcleave (either with a ret or with a holy pala), or plays dispellcleave. people actually still playing RMP and WLD will probably be like only 10% of all people playing, maybe even less.
the state of arena is just pretty bad right now, but you yourself should know that its not an ideal environment for Discs at all, whereas a druid or a holy pala is the better choice for most teams. The setup we play is cheese, i sometimes just laugh out loud when i see Vinas accidentally casting into some target and dropping him with a lavaburst, but its far from the cheasiest wizardcleave out there.
(not even to mention theres no rogue mage combo at dunemaul left with enough potential to actually get to Glad)
(TLDR: what toptier comps are there left for a disc priest? i know off dispellcleave and ele mage disc, RMP is only viable with players at the top of their class, a viable enough rogue u wont find on dunemaul)
-
Pff, I'm sure it's doable for temmy.
-
Nah Therash you're absolutely right, but you know as well as I do that there aren't a lot of options for a disc nowadays. Double healer X (no thanks), RMP (no idea who would want to play this, especially with a Priest who plays his first real season) and our comp are the three comps that are pretty much the only comps as a disc to achieve anything serious with. And I just realized Cinn said the same, oh well.
I'm not proud on this comp but not ashamed of running it either. I would love to try RMP one day if I had the partners, but I got a great team now with people I enjoy playing with a lot, and that's worth a lot to me. But as I said, I want to see how far we can go with this setup, get experience at a higher level, keep on improving, make a video (!) and hopefully show what I'm consistently capable of.
And well Vorte, it's a shame dueling vs a lock as disc is pretty hopeless, but I do hope we'll meet in arena some more often. Watch me SW:D them gouges. ;)

SW:D blinds or not impressed m7
Does anyone but buby do that on a regular basis anymore? :(
-
I'd think you could do anything now that you got all the gear you need, but you make a good point with having fun in this team, because that's what it's all about right now really.
Oh and Cinn, I am also a decent priest that can get high if I really tried :P
gl with the apply! you seem like a nice enough guy that won't defend wizzard faggotry
Buby has been playing priest (and RMP) since before I even knew WoW existed. Not to mention the amazing partners he always manages to round up. No offence to him though, he's a great player. And also the only really old priest on dunemaul.
-
Rogues better start to try and blind me, because I'm recording our games from now on. Needs them clutch SW:D clips! And thanks Therash, mucho appreciato. :)
Anyways, can I conclude that I can whisper someone later today for an invite? My F5 key is getting rusty and I prefer practising APM ingame with you guys than on renewing this page!
-
Then why aren't you playing starcraft, fool.
-
Good point, I never played it so I've no idea what I'm missing. But I doubt I have the time to l2p a new game when all my focus is on arena right now. :P And I really cba to play a game like SC without a clue of what's happening...competitive nature eh. All or nothing.
-
Implying arena is competitive?
-
Pff, I'm sure it's doable for temmy.
and for me! but what rogue would be good enough?:o
-
*waves at Cinn*
-
and for me! but what rogue would be good enough?:o
I call Lúrarin and Vortelolita.
Oh and obviously Skymunken, the beast of the new age of arenas.
-
soon I will make roguecleave famous.
-
Implying arena is competitive?
Yes, a laddersystem is competitive for me. Not saying it's perfectly balanced or close to balanced as some other games, but that doesn't take anything away from PvP (and PvE if you'd like) from being a competition, for those who seek that in a game. :)
-
arena is quite competitve :O its just a shame its so shit :D
-
and for me! but what rogue would be good enough?:o
I call Lúrarin and Vortelolita.
Oh and obviously Skymunken, the beast of the new age of arenas.
hey screw you, I'll play with whoever I want, you're not my mother
edit: oh and the app is nice, I'd liek to see this guy in the guild
-
I have invited him to the guild.
