Does sony force software updates if you use your ps3 online?

I wonder if it will only work until the next update.

No it doesn't' It tells you an update is available, but you dont need to download it if your using your PS3 for Offline purposes.

Just decline the update, and carry on with your game :)

Wtf!

Wonder whether it really works.

Regarding updates: While you can decline the updates, Sony will make sure new released games do a firmware check. They'll just refuse to launch unless you install an update (just as the Xbox does).

So you can only launch old stuff.

install an update (just as the Xbox does).

You can still play without updating but only offline :(

Prob as it wasn't hacked yet. Sony would be stupid not to enforce updates that will block the jailbreak with future releases. Well, unless the jailbreak is nondetectable and nonfixable.

It might get a bit complicated thou as their updates also limit the PS3, removing Linux support etc. Some US folks might go sue-crazy if they are forced to cripple their system.

Wouldn't be surprised if an update blocks it and newer games require up-to-date shit. That's how they work it on psp.

But as this runs games from the harddrive, cant the ppl who ripped the game remove that protection that would check for updates ? If that would be possible, nothing is rly impossible these days :D

Maybe, but given how incredibly long it's been even for this thing to surface at all, I imagine sony have done some things that complicate matters a lot.

They can go the Nintendo way. Have new games call some API function thats only included in the new firmware update.

Would require hackers to patch the firmware then.

Hot: few days ago the jailbreak code was released as OpenSource, and you can compile it for basically any USB board. Apparently folks are working on iPhone and Android versions of it, and several other. Plug your phone into PS3 to hack it, wtf cyberpunk.

How hotshit works: http://ps3wiki.lan.st/index.php/PSJailbreak_Exploit_Reverse_Engineering

Think that's the first time a "modchip" is avaible in source code?

Phone needs to have been "Rooted" or "Jailbroken" i think, not sure tho. But if you can play downloaded games on PS3 simply by rooting/jailbreaking your phone and install an App its totally worth it :D

Edit: Here is a DEV thread for Android Port, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=772795

Yeah, I saw this earlier this week, but haven't bothered testing it yet. If anyone does, please let us know how it goes! :)
