I thought this aswell actually, i'm the same as you, except i don't work wednesdays, so wearing a suit today means i get a full week of suit action!

My point :)
Not many jobs/positions you can get away with wearing shorts to work! Although shorts in England must be frickin cold no?
-
True men dont get cold O.O
-
Funny that, in Japan there's actually a saying;
"Idiots don't catch colds"
-
work?
Work?!
-
work?
Work?!
:D
-
The British are famous for wearing shorts + t-shirt as soon as the temperature goes above 10C.
-
I work in a publishing company, most guys here are wearing shirts atleast but only the guy down in the economy department are wearing suits :P
I wear whatever I want but Im the young IT-guy.
-
Wearing suits to work is teh fail. Especially if you're forced to because "everyone does".

I heard it's the same in Finland but when the temperature goes above -10C.
-
i wear a suit to work and i like it
i dont have to focus on what to wear in the morning (just not same shirt/suit for two consecutive days). when i have meetings people take me seriously and dont focus on my clothes. when i sometimes go out on fridays i get more attention from women.
its obviously a bit silly but it works. like tarantino said after reservoir dogs: "if you take a normal guy and put a dark suit on him, he will look cooler".
-
If i would show up in a suit @ work i would be laughed at, not taken serious and make an outcast of myself.
Besides that my colleagues would probably deny me access to the datacenter, and change the domain pw straight away :)
Suits, atleast in the technical part of IT, is just not done.
But srs, it all depends on what kind of company/department/function you work for i guess.
Just being able to wear my everyday cloth to work suits me fine. ;D
p.s. I started out as a labrat after my study where a lab coat with nerd glasses was the norm. :-[

QFT
When I go to meetings people usually take me seriously because when I talk I make sense, and I wear glasses!
When I have meetings with people in suits and the meeting is about software development I usually presume they are not developers and just out to sell us stuff.
I have sadly been right so far...
I agree that some women respond very well to wearing suits when going out, but I typically cant stand that kind of women, and Im already married so its not a big issue for me :P

How about the tie, that must be the most useless piece of clotch ever invented.
Besides you wear it on the second worse place, around the neck. (Worst would be the scrotum.)
-
How about the tie, that must be the most useless piece of clotch ever invented.
Amen, brother.
Used to wear a suit and tie every day to work, for two and a half years.
I despise ties.

Selling crack to kids requires tie? Drug dealers rising standards, you are no more shady ghetto dealer Hug!

That's what I try to tell myself, too... (if I had glasses)
Anyway I don't give a shit about what people think about me, if they think "wtf" because I dont show up groomed like a dressman, their problem.
As said, it depends on your work environment. The only "suits" that enter our company are extern sales folks, and the more polished they look, the more fun we make of them once they leave. Cause unfortunately with those folks it's usually true "the more groomed -> the less to offer".
I'm just happy I don't have to pose like that.
-
I'm an intern/placement student atm so I have to follow this lame ass dress code. But hopefully in the future I'll have something as sweet as some of you guys, I'd much rather wear my own clothes (you'd be crazy not to want to?!).
-
Less talk, more pics.
-
...there r pics in tis thread...?

I am the sysadmin, I wear a t-shirt and jeans to work.
And it's easy getting people to listen. I happen to be very, very good at Icelandic and quite confident and humorous, so it's quite okay. I regularly do lectures and presentations in my current job.
Thing is, over here in Iceland people usually don't wear suits to work, it's the big bosses, or people who deal with big bosses (marketing directors - which is a fancy word for salesmen) that actually suit up.
ALSO
I WORK ON UNIX IN A BLACK T-SHIRT SLIGHTLY OVERWEIGHT UNSHAVEN AND TALK ABOUT VIDEO GAMES @ WORK
stereotype!

you make a statement with your clothes, like it or not. this is true for suits as well as jeans, sandals and t-shirts (usually weared by IT)
obviously the environment you are in will affect how you dress. im sure you all would wear a suit for a wedding. the only thing im saying is that i feel comfortable wearing it. if sandals and t-shirt works at your job, and you feel comfortable. please, go ahead.
also, i dont wear a suit to cover that im bad at communicating. its just easier when you are in a room full of suits to wear one yourself. especially if you dont mind wearing one.
-
Better to be overdressed then underdressed.
Now, i work for an IT company and we've had people show up in LARPING chainmail including a leather skirt when asked to dress nicely "cause it's a bank you are going to and they require it".
Also, IT has a over-representation of Smellers, Beards, Ponies, SameSame(same clothes everyday of the week) and Mentos(breath so bad you want to kill yourself and loose eyesight if they hit you directly in the face with it).
It's a good thing the contactperson of the company can safely meet with you knowing you won't be any of the above or will be wearing a t-shirt of a squid raping a schoolbus full of Japanese schookids.
I agree with the tie thing, it's a retarded piece of clothing.
-
Fuck you guys ties are awesome.
-
Where are all the suit pictures?!
-
I'm ill. I'm wearing supercomfy stuff, wouldn't wanna get snot on any of my suits.
-
Fuck ties, it's all about cravats

Questions?
-
Suits should only really be a requirement when presentation of the individual is key to the job - marketing, dealing with the public and such. Anything else is just annoying.
-
Seems like people prefered to bitch about wearing suits to work instead of actually being very cool and just putting a suit on!
-
It's about choice. If u like suits, fair play, wear one. Don't force or expect others to.
-
I like ties.. slim ties. It's a nice splash of colour to jazz things up.
However, ties are not cool when you are 50+ in a tent-style shirt and the tie is 10cm wide.

Ties are pretty baller. One of my favourite accessories.

like penises?
-
Are you saying a penis can't be a tie?

Suits make men look HOT! A good suit means even fuglys are mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm. So I like this arguement very much and agree with where are the pictures!
P.S. I don't care if its pervy, men in good suits are lovely!
