Title: League Of Legends
Post by: Inphy on November 21, 2010, 09:16:12 pm
As suggested, a poll!

Who here plays League Of Legends. And if you do, are you interested in playing games as SCEC/Iron Edge or something similar.

Do post your name if you want to play together. I'll try and update this post as much as possible so everyone can add people.

Add an option for 'are you interested in playing?' then :)

It's uh, casual.

Hon is far more Hardcore...I've played both.

Played HON far more. But did give LOL a good try (100 games or so)

It's just nowhere near as fun or hardcore...Not being able to deny really annoys me.

wait

you can't deny? O_O

LoL has a much lesser learning curve and is very noob friendly. But it is noway easier than Hon/Dota as it is way different. I'd suggest people going for HON tho, since Lol has talent/level and glyph system. Meaning you have to do like ~250games before you reach level 30 and you are able to use all your talents. Also you must grind influence points (sort of ingame money) to be able to purchase these glyphs AND heros. Only 10-12 heros are usable for free each week... Excuse for denying is "shorter games".

Post by: Gaeios(Graxlos) on December 01, 2010, 09:07:37 am
That is a stupid excuse since you could just boost overall xp gain from creeps.

Removing denying just means less need for microing.

I heard that League of Legends doesn't have denying, is that true?

It?s true, even though League of Legends is based on DotA we?ve intentionally decided to remove denying from the game. We know this is a huge change for some people, but we have some really good reasons for removing it!

    * It enlarges the early game imbalance between ranged and melee Champions, and we think it is more fun for all Champions to be at least somewhat competitive at all phases of the game.
    * It leads to passive play, and slows down the game. We feel that high-activity; high-action faster games are more fun. By not having denying, there?s a stronger incentive to push. Additionally, it prevents strong lane control which is ultimately about passive play. Team fights more than anything else are what make this genre fun, and faster games mean more team fights.
    * It is weird. Killing your own guys?

So basically they simplified the game to make it easier and to make the games shorter.

So basically they simplified the game to make it easier and to make the games shorter.

Basicly yes. As I said earlier, they made lesser learning curve to the game so it is more easy to aproach as a new player.

LoL focuses on different things in terms of skill. There are sort of bushes, where you dont see into, but you can see from, these are optimal for ganking and hiding. Talents and glyphs add depth to the game and 2 additional spells everyone can choose before the game starts is fun idea and works quite well.

You can choose between blink, slow+blind, temp. movement speed, teleport(kinda like teleport boots), small scan, dot with mortalstrike effect, superb. nuke vs creeps, pvptrinket, small aoe heal, small aoe mana restore, long CD champion revive, AOE damageboost totem and a tower fortifying ability.

I do think HoN requires more in terms of skill and is more true to original dota. But I think you are underestimating LoL, its not "kiddie dota", just focuses on different things.

Im sure its a good game, Im not really that serious. I dislike the fact that you have to unlock heroes and that you can pay for those different perks.

But it is made by some of the important developers of Dota so im sure its wellmade.

Title: Re: League Of Legends
Post by: Inphy on December 01, 2010, 11:12:51 am
That's one thing that I disliked about LoL at first. That you could and had to pay for certain things. But you don't have to pay for those things. You can also just play games and get points from playing games (more for winning obviously).

And with those points you can unlock the heroes you like, or get glyphs for it. And not being able to deny gives you way more chance to start ganking at early levels, or harass at most. And like Sparrowhawk quoted, it gives more room for melee heroes. It looks like a kiddie game, that's just the style, which I honestly don't fancy myself.

Oh and you can buy awesome skins for the heroes, with real money that is. But still it's pretty cool. Imagine Legionnaire in a baseball outfit!

The fact it sounds so much different from what I'm used to does actually make it seem more interesting as a prospect, but all that odd stuff about some stuff being free sometimes and not othertimes sounds like a headache... kinda prefer if they just put the option out to just outright buy the game and have access to the whole thing all the time.
Title: Re: League Of Legends
Post by: Kilizion on December 01, 2010, 01:43:06 pm
I agree with Kawe on having to pay for extra things. I'd also just rather buy a game and have access to everything. You see them doing it a lot in free games, sometimes even items that improve a players stats or whatever (I assume not the case in LoL), but it is frustrating.

As for LoL i'll download it at some point this week and try it since i'll probably be bored at some point.

In LoL paying basically means you have to play less to get access to all teh cool stuff, that you can unlock by playing a lot of games.

It helps out alot.. Heros cost 1300, 3100 or 6100 points (numbers not 100% accurate) And you actually get 100-200points per game. Buying them isnt really cheap either :P about 5e per hero if you are buying them one by one. You get extra points more you buy so... You also have to buy glyphs which can cost up to 1200 per glyph and you have something like 27rune slots.

If you plan to play a lot, I find it makes more sense to buy XP boosts. I bought the game when it came out of beta, but haven't touched it in a year or so.
Title: Re: League Of Legends
Post by: kawe on December 02, 2010, 03:04:41 am
Well, I thought it a bit unfair to not at least try the game myself. So I downloaded it and gave it a bash, it's quite interesting. Absolutely is a dota-style game with a more casual pace to it, certainly a great deal less stressful to play.

LoL has some neat features too, like being able to hold down right click on the ground, and your hero will just chase your cursor if spam-clicking isn't your thing, and the little lines that show your intended path on the minimap when you click a location. I also like the launcher's pages on the heroes, with little bars approximating their strengths, weaknesses and difficulty to play well with, as well as a story panel for each and tactics for dealing with them in general terms.

However, it does overall feel a lot less twitchy and precise as HoN or DotA, and would - I think - not satisfy people looking for that high-tension action.

It's largely well put-together, but some stuff in the interface feels a little too small, or unintuitive in their purposes, requiring a mouseover to work out. Spell descriptions/functionality for the one hero I played didn't seem too clear/concise either, and could use some better formatting a la HoN.

Definitely, there's fun to be had playing LoL, but it's a very different style of game indeed, and a bit less refined. I recommend it to anyone who liked the idea of DotA/HoN (team game with some pvp and some pve played over 15-45 minutes), but finds them too stressful or would prefer a slower-paced, slightly simplified game in the same vein.

So, I've played I think 3-5 games now, and I'm really enjoying the game a lot. It's possibly because of the fact it has the zomgultimatesupport hero in it though, and that that hero is also a tribute to hatsune miku and makes harp sounds with every spell you cast.

My nickname for LoL is Toastcleaner, add me if you want to play with me :) I hael and buff and don't afraid of anything.

Haha, it's cool to see how people turn to this game and think it's fun. I started with the same oppinion on it, that it was horrible that you had to pay for heroes etc. But once you get around to it, it's alot of fun.

The other nice thing about it is that you can play alot of different builds. For example with Sona (that Kawe plays), you can either go full support by building up ability power to strenghten your abilities. Or you can go cooldown reduction by buying alot of those items. And you have items with aura's to support even more. So you can go so many directions with one hero. Where with Hon for example, it's basicly one build that you always take.

Oh common, it's true. You always go for agility items on an agilty hero! (which makes sense, obviously). In LoL you can go ability power, cooldown reduction, or crit, or even attack damage. So I think it's more diverse.

You can dl free skins from here, only you see them tho, not others. But theres hatsune miku skin for sona which is quite well made ;)

Also support casters FTW

edit: Unlike wow, it is actually legal to have custom skins in LoL.

I did see that Miku skin! But vanity things are meant to be seen by as many as possible! :D

I've actually tried a decent selection of heroes now, think Lux, Janna, Sona are my favourites followed by Katarina and Akali.

Bought sorceress skin for lux because of pointy hats! Soraka has quite similar rule to sona and lux, so should try that out.

You gotta beat my 36-0-13 >_O

Tryndamere is a baller.

Im having a ton of fun on Dr Mundo atm. Pretty much inkillable while his ulti is active and with cooldown reduction glyphs you can pop it every 25 seconds.

My favourite champs are Tryndamere, Mundo, Pantheon (SPARTAAAAAAAAAAAAAA), Morgana (Awesome solo laner with strong early and mid game, but very weak if the game goes for 50minutes), Malphite, Irelia and jax.

Eve is just fukkn OP aswell, played 3 games on her and did around 20+ kills each game, i just really didnt like being so squishy and having to sneak in when the fight ha started, i much prefer being the first guy to charge in and stir shit up.

Didnt think id enjoy Moba style games but there pretty awesome, havent played WoW for months now, havent even logged in since cata >_O been too addicted to LoL.

Guess i should try Dota and HoN.

Yeah, Trynd is a wrecking ball if they let you farm, only character I've had a penta kill with, closest otherwise was with Miss Fortune... gotta love those physical hard carries. Played a bunch with Mundo and went where I pleased. The sound of cleaver connecting is almost too satisfying.

Also, Karthus for ultimate annoyance for the enemy team. Nothing quite like getting a double or triple kill AFTER you die!

so i have playing this recently quite a bit and i have to say i enjoy it
still i think i prefer hon over lol but whatever

anyway i have played a few different heroes most recently (as in a day ago) i bought jax and my god he is so fucking awesome seems to be the on hero that can go toe to toe with trynd even if he uses his endless rage jax can come out on top
granted if the trynd is overfarmed and jax isnt he would die

also am i the only that just fucking despises vlad and akali i mean vlad is allmost unkillable with his fucking puddle of crap and akali can rape shit once she hits level 6

Title: Re: League Of Legends
Post by: Destro on February 12, 2011, 06:29:17 pm
Jax is defo one of the best 1v1 champs in the game, i cant really think of many champs that can beat him toe to toe. Possibly a champ with a cc or stun around 2 seconds so they can kite him and drop his ulti stacks and possibly guinsoo's.

I love playing him and think hes a little OP, cos he has a ton of hp due to the passive and holy shit does he hit hard, can melt tanks, one of the best backline carry rapers in the game with his low cooldown jump/charge ability and the fact it melts half their hp away with a Q-W Combo. He is however very squishy and is often the first focus, as he can keep the entire enemy team stunlocked if they are stupid enough to actually attack him and proc those dodges.

I find he is rather team dependant though... In the sense that... you could be in a teamfight where you are outnumbered, and me being the arrogant prick i am, i like to dive into them and take them to hell with me. Now this is where my personal playstyle on him gets a make or break deal rolling, if my team mates are pussies and dont share my bloodthirsty playstyle, they stand there and watch as i take on 3 or 4 enemies, then they realise holy shit... he is actually killing them, and then they join the fight, however its too late cos im already dead after they have been watching me rumble for 8 seconds.

However if your in a team that is balls to the wall and jumps in with me, the opponents just get melted. They cant do shit when they are constantly stunned and thats where he really shines.

Ive often wondered about playing him more as a tanky role, the base dmg on his skills are really high so he wouldnt have an issue dishing out dmg, and the longer the fight goes on, and the longer he stays alive the more dmg he does. I just cant bring myself to try it cos he is so awesome anyway.

BTW Annie tank is fucking brutal... Played 5 games with her as a tank, had people laughing at me early game, saying i would let my team down as i would be useless... they were not laughing when i was going 10-0 with 40+ assists and tower diving + stunlocking the shit out of them nonstop.

Thats what gave me the idea to possibly try jax out on a more tanky spec, purely because the continuous stunlock tears teams apart.

I also agree with you on akali and vlad, you can harras the shit outta akali before lvl 6, send her back to heal 2 or 3 times, nearly kill her multiple times, but yet she always escapes with her fukkn smoke cloud. Then she hits 6, and even with all the gear u farmed from creepscore and the 2 lvls u have on her wont save u :D

And vlad is just a homosexual vampire that only baddies play because he is so retard proof.
Title: Re: League Of Legends

i can see a tanky jax working against a heavy physical team not so much against a team heavy on magic damage... though is active ulti might help him with that

also i have never had any problems against annie with whatever i play never seen a tank annie though
edit: the last 5 games i played... i noticed i suck with leblanc

Farmed Akali is one of the most brutal things in the game. She is such an incredible chaser that you're almost forced into standing and fighting instead
so i have playing this recently quite a bit and i have to say i enjoy it
still i think i prefer hon over lol but whatever

vlad nerfs inc btw

Akali's lvl 6 R ability doesn't actually do tonnes of damage or anything, but it lets her chase really well if she has the charges to use it three times. Forces you to stand and fight pretty much, unless you're near a tower.

I really want to see what new Ryze is like, sounds like it could be fun.

the interface feels unresponsive, the game feels slow, not being able to deny xp takes away from skill, the tall grass thing bothers me for some reason, I don't like the fact that some people have access to abilities or shit that I don't have.

It just doesn't feel right.

And games I like usually feel right from the moment I start playing them. For rpg's I hated elder scrolls oblivion, but loved dragon age. Something just has to click for me to like a game.

Play a carry >_> and win by yourself. Ive given up playing supports or tanks that lack high damage as you can never know if ur in a team full of tards that will actually do their job.

Try playing master yi as a jungler, ganking is ridiculously easy and you will get fed alot in the early / mid game, becoming an unstoppable game winning machine.

There are lots of other good carries obviously... however yi is good because sometimes, even if ur fed on a carry champ, sometimes u cant win the game fast enough and everyone catches up to you, and they pull it back... But nobody fukkn catches yi, and he devastates towers so fast that they wont ever have a chance to get back in the game if u get fed/successfully gank 5+ enemies.

I used all my IP boosts playing yi... did a 10 game win streak and finally finished buying off my dodge seals, 820 ip per is fukkn painfully slow -_-
