I'm in such a pickle.
So, my contract ended with my Blackberry Torch 9800 and it's time I can 'buy/get' a new phone...
Now the pickle is.. an iphone 4s, or galaxy S2.
It'll be a 2 year contract, so keep that in mind.. with the Samsung i'll only have to pay 52 euro's extra, the iphone 4s i'll have to lay in 210 euro's. What do you guys think?
-
Galaxy S II, clearly, it's better in every way and will cost you less
-
The Galaxy is a better phone.
-
iPhone 4S obviously, don't listen to the retards.
-
-
Wait.... no, but.... I just.... but..... Are you fucking retarded?
-
Yeah that drop test is just stupid. Just don't drop your fucking phone -.-
-
yeah cause when things fall, it's on purpose, you know if ever it so happens your phone falls down for any reason... iPhone 4S becomes trash :P
anyway, disregard that, still SGSII is better
-
Iphone 4s is a BIT faster than the galaxy now.. but 4.0 is coming in january. But yeah, the drop issue is a good point, I can be clumsy. Don't want to spend 200 euro's on a phone that I'm stuck with for 2 years and breaking it the first month.
-
You have 2 year warranty on ze glass though :)
-
I would recommend Galaxy Nexus as a third option if you could, if I didnt buy my xperia arc in september I'd go with this now
and android 4 is yummy I hear
also Samsung phones have the longest battery life of all the smartphones, at least when you compare the stats
-
I've compared the Nexus, it's not that great. And besides, 4.0 is coming to the SGS2 in january.
-
I just ordered the black SGS2. Thanks Andrej and others, giving me good arguments. ICS was the turnabout. :)
-
Yeah specwise the Galaxy Nexus isnt gr8 but it alrdy has 4.0 tho :D
-
Perhaps because I am a Mac user I'd say 4S..
The 4S is a solid upgrade compared its brother 4G, but not surprisingly as might expected.
The OS is much smoother, Siri (though beta) and the camera is quite good.

-

Hmmm, a friend has a Galaxy S2 and it is a great phone, but I would still suggest the iPhone. The apps for the phone is great, and altho the iPhone has a 1ghz processor compared to the samsungs 1.2ghz processor, it cannot be a deciding factor. Remember, iOS is developed for a very specific set of hardware that Apple defines and therefore the OS is optimised for the hardware. Android requires a faster processor to do the same thing because of the OS.
Based on benchmarks I have seen the iPhone beats the S2 but by a small margin.
In the end it is your choice, both are good phones. If you like to customize your phone, Android is the way. If you want an easy phone that 'just works' then go for the iPhone.

You mean all the apps that exist for iOS, Android and WP7 ? :P
-
You can't get Abyiss's app on an android, so clearly thats the deciding factor! :(
-
a lot of apps are released for iOS before Android if they are even released for it. I find that the quality of apps on the Android market varies a lot. due to the vast number of screen resolutions and Android versions the market is rather fragmented. yes, Apple is extremely strict with their app policy, but this helps keep away the crappy apps.
-
Having to live with the Android market is the big downside of that platform. The Apple application and entertainment (video pods etc on iTunes) is just so much better. Personally, I don't involve brand politics in any of my technology purchases. I look for how I, in the most simple way, can get what I want from the device I'm looking to purchase, and when my criterias are met, I look for the bonuses.
I found that both platforms meet my criterias, but the Apple convenience and entertainment side is just so much better - in my opinion.
PS: I hope Android users get something like iMessage soon. Great quality of life feature, not having to use 3rd party programs for free texting and information sharing :) I laughed at it at first. Then the privacy issues with my info going through Apple servers annoyed me a bit. Then I realised that similar things happen with all my digital communication (really). Now it's great! ;)
-
I would say that regardless of which you buy, whether you enjoy using it and the good things about it, or regret the things it doesn't do that the other does and focus on the bad things about it will be entirely up to you.
-
Regarding iMessage, afaik all android phones come with google talk with stock versions. Which makes it possible to chat directly over 3g/wifi, if you make a google account. It does require that people use it though.
-
Perhaps if google had launched google talk as a gamechanger more people would use it :P
-
Well, I personally use Whatsapp. It is just like BBM/iMessage, but can be used on all the smartphones. I havent used iMessage yet, only getting my iPhone 4s tomorrow, but I get the idea that you are never certain if you going to be sending the message for free over data or if it will be an SMS.
-
PS: I hope Android users get something like iMessage soon.
Have you heared of Whatsapp? Unlike iMessage(apple ->thus restrictions), it's platform independent.
I've sent a total of 12 sms text in the last 6 months due to everyone, including my parents, having whatsapp and there is no more need for sms.
<3

Also regarding Android Market, its quite easy to do what Apple does, which is to see what apps are crap or not, just that Apple charges extra for it :P
-
I whould say the galaxy S2, since theirs alot of problems whit the iphone 4s. Or atleast for me,
This are the problems that i got,
1.cell phone can not find the SIM-card
2.can not connect the call
3.can not send text message
4.loses contact with the mobile network
5.battery runs out in record time
so I recommend a samsung galaxy s2;
No problem with the phone, and easy to use :P
-
Would just say my brother recently got the galaxy, and is having a few problems with it.
-
You're a disgrace to gamers, all of you. Get a real phone.

1-4 sounds like its a problem with your phone company, not the phone :P
Battery problems can occur (or atleast I had it) if you try restore an old "profile" to the new unit. Setting it up fresh worked out for me

Id rather have better specs for better games then a gamepad on the phone.
-
Tbh I think the worst thing about playing on my phone is the lack of keys.
I would love proper controls so I could own at tetris, tetris suck on a touchscreen.
-
games like game dev story are the right thing for smartphones, or anything that is a turn-based strategy
we could all get UniWar :P and have a turned based hexagon starcraft-like multiplayer game!
-
Civ on iPhone is quite fun
-
I saw the civ5 app, it's for symbian... not even iOS or Android...
like what the fuck were they thinking?
-
Exactly what Cwave said. Whatsapp is for all platforms, i think 90% of Holland uses that.
Samsung Galaxy S2 is being delivered tomorrow!

Cwave, and the above. I've used WhatApp for years. The cool thing about features like iMessage is that I don't have to use a 3rd party program. I'm quite sure I wrote that in my first post.
Re: Google Talk. That's like saying "..or you could use chat software X". GT is not connected to your number. Pretty much like Viber vs. Skype for free VoIP.
-
But kagir can you text people with android phones and oldschool phones with iMessage?
-
But kagir can you text people with android phones and oldschool phones with iMessage?
iMessage is a part of your SMS software that senses if the receiver has a Apple device. If it's a Apple device, it uses the IP protocol, if not, it uses SMS.
It's not a stand-alone app.
Edit: Also, as I pointed out in my first post. It's just a nice feature. Not something I'd base my mobile device choice on.
-
My point is that it would be stupid if android phones had one built in app for messaging other android phones, and WP and ios had their own apps for internal messaging when you can have an app that can send to all the platforms....
-
Indeed! It'd be great if they'd agree on a standard identifier feature for Internet compatible (WiFi/3(4)g) mobile devices (I'd like them to include tablets etc.).
-
Apple would never agree to such a thing...
-
I dont really see the problem with a third party app, on android I dont really feel a difference between thirt party and integrated apps.
But I am using cyanogenmod so I can also customize just about anything.
-
<3 I love my new Galaxy. It's so amaaaazing.
-
Thats awesome, Inphy :)
-
A friend has it, awesome phone. Screen is amazing, but does yours have a blue tint to it when viewing back backgrounds etc? My m8s does, but not sure if his is tripping balls or it is just the display
-
Haven't seen a blue background, think his is tripping balls. ;D
