Title: Raider Application - Mage (DPS) - Rhaaja
Post by: Applicant on October 13, 2016, 09:28:27 pm
Hello, Iron Edge!

I am applying for the main raid.

Character: Rhaaja
Armory: http://eu.battle.net/wow/en/character/Kazzak/Rhaaja/advanced
Class/Spec: Mage (DPS)
Member Type: raider

Personal Info:

Hello! My name is Murat Öge. I'm 28 years old, living in Ankara, Turkey.
I'm a design engineer in TAI (Turkish Aerospace Industries). In the meantime, I'm also a PhD. Candidate in Mechanical Engineering Dpt. of TOBB University of Economics and Technology. And I'm a married guy with no kids.

Class/Spec:

I’m playing Fire as my main spec. And I did not tried to play any other spec in legion due to artifact power sharing. Another reason is that I think that fire mage gives a decent overall performance for every PvE aspect of the game at this point. I am not deeply interested in PvP and I don’t have the time to invest in it neither. So, maybe it may sound like a negative point but I’m giving all to fire at this moment of the game.
Yet I’m aware that the game is never in balance, so I might asked to switch to another spec at any given point in the expansion. It it happens, I certainly make the necessary arrangements in order to perform in a competitive way in raids.

Let me tell you the way I play a fire mage:

Gearing/stats:

From what I have read and discussed in many platforms, I think the priority of stats for gearing goes that way: crit>int>>the rest. Here I want to point out that a minor item level upgrade in a slot with loss of critical strike is not wanted by my side. A chain of spells that critically hit is the core for doing competitive dps with a fire mage see: Pyretic Incantation(PI). I’m trying to optimize my gear in order to have maximum critical strike rating as possible.

Rotation:

Single target rotation:

Single target rotation of a fire mage can be split in 2: Combustion (a.k.a. Nuke phase) and sustained damage (a.k.a. the whole 2 boring minutes without combustion). I tried and tested that the overall DPS done by a fire mage is scaling with its performance during the combustion phase, so I’ll start with it. Well I try to use combustion as much as possible during an encounter, so I prefer to start with it and use it as soon as it is out of CD. Unless I might delay it for a while if it is needed to do so in an encounter or if we are in a mobile phase.

Here goes the combustion rotation: get “Heating Up” with the precast pyroblast (PB) or with a fireball (FB), then convert it to “Hot Streak” (HS) with “Phoenix’s Flames” (PF). When I have my HS up I go this way: Rune of Power (RoP)->Combustion->PB->Fire Blast(FBL)->PB>FBL >PB>Flame On>FBL>PB>FBL>PB>PF>PB//combustion usually ends here with a Heating up so 1 more PF>PB will make PI continue, and it gets even better if that PB crits because FBL is off CD at the time so you can get another free pyro in the process. Well this is the perfect opener with all my PF stacks are up. But I tend to prepare myself with 2 stacks of PF up with Flame On ready for any Combustion phases during the fight. The Combustion use and rotation during the fight is pretty much the same with maybe 1 less PF.

For the sustained damage phase: Our main goal is to chain as much critically hit spell as possible in order to get more damage increase from PI and to able to use free PB as much as possible. The generic filler is FB. Knowing that FBL can be cast while casting FB, we can keep spamming FB without any interruption. The main goal in this phase is to keep as high Ignites (Fire mage mastery) as we can. In order to do that we need to make the so called Pyro Fishing. As we can cast FBL while casting a FB, we always can/should cast the FB and instant PB at the same time in order to get a high ignite. To clarify: you keep spamming FB>FB>FB (Oh a crit! = heating up)>FB/FBL (during the FB cast=HS)>PB (it will go and hit the mob at the same time with the FB = (i) high ignite (ii)possible HS). Well that’s the whole thing about the sustained dps phase.

Cleave rotation:

Single target rotation with conflagration and cinderstorm talented.(Well there is a little trick of PI with cinderstorm: you cast cinderstrom and cast combustion before they hit the boss = instant 5 stacks of PI.). and using Dragon’s Breath (DB) on CD. Well usually Ignite does the main job while cleaving.

AOE rotation:

Single target rotation with conflagration and cinderstorm talented. Uusing Dragon’s Breath (DB) on CD. Living Bomb is the star of fire aoe. And using Flamstrike with HS to replace PB.
My current gear level with this spec is 851, with artifact knowledge level 7 and artifact level 21. I am totally aware that I am a bit behind of general raiding community, but it is the best I could have done with my periodic tight schedule. I was unlucky with legendary drops (I have 2 on my alt without any remarkable effort -.-). But I’m not pessimistic; I know that it will drop at some point.

Alts:

I have only a single 110 alt character at the moment. A Vengeance Demon Hunter. Here is its armory link: http://eu.battle.net/wow/en/character/kazzak/Lulja/advanced
I have several level 100 alts that I might consider leveling during legion:
Gaasha: Blood DK
Daenas: Protection paladin
Ghortar: Elemental Shaman – I think I’ll level it as an enha shaman due to Doomhammer reasons-
Lirthas: Disc priest – my PvP toon-
Ruukhjinai: Hunter
Gubblez: Rogue
Lúlja: Guardian Druid.
You may ask if I have a tanking fetish. Indeed I have.

Professions:

The primary professions that I have on my main are Tailoring and enchanting. Well the reason was, after all the profession buffs are gone, enchanting was simply the most profitable profession in my previous server (Twisting Nether). And I did and I still do sustained money from bags.  Besides, I can’t imagine a mage without tailoring and enchanting. And I don’t think I have any interesting or exotic recipe in any of them.
I’m always careful about my secondary professions: fishing, cooking, archeology and first aid; but due some schedule problems, I couldn’t manage to top them.

Raiding Experience:

Haha! The fun part of the application:

I have raided with 4 different characters and 2 different roles in my whole raiding career:

Rogue (early TBC)
Shaman (TBC, MoP, WoD)
Hunter (WotLK, Cata, MoP)
Paladin (Cata, MoP)

I have started to WoW in 2005. But due the big scary exams at the end of the highschool, I didn’t even managed to hit 60 before TBC launched in early 2007. I couldn’t do any raiding in classic WoW. So my raiding career starts with TBC:

Resto Shaman:

Karazhan: 11/11
Gruul’s Lair: 2/2
Magtheridon’s Lair: 1/1
Tempest Keep : 4/4
Serpentshrine Cavern: 6/6
Battle for Mount Hyjal: 5/5
Black Temple: 9/9
Sunwell Plateau: 6/6

Combat Rogue:

Karazhan: 11/11
Gruul’s Lair: 2/2
Magtheridon’s Lair: 1/1
Tempest Keep : 3/4
Serpentshrine Cavern: 6/6
Battle for Mount Hyjal: 5/5
Black Temple: 7/9
Sunwell Plateau: 0/6

WoTLK:

Hunter (SV first, then MM if I’m not mistaken. All hail the mighty armor penetration!):

Naxxramas 25: 15/15
Eye of Eternity 25: 1/1
Obsidian Sanctum 25-3d: 1/1
Ulduar 10/25: 14/14
Trial of the Crusader 25: 5/5 n. 4/5hc
Icecrown Citadel 10: 12/12 n. 12/12 hc
Icecrown Citadel 25: 12/12 n. 11/12 hc.
Ruby Santum 10/25: 1/1 n. 0/1 hc.

Cataclysm:

Resto Paladin:

Blackwing Descent 10: 6/6n. 3/6hc
Bastion of Twilight 10: 5/5n. 4/5hc
Throne of the Four Winds 10: 2/2n. 0/2hc
Firelands 10: 7/7 n. 2/7hc
Dragon Soul 10: 7/8 n. 0/8hc

Hunter (SV if I’m not mistaken)

Blackwing Descent 10: 0/6n. 0/6hc
Bastion of Twilight 10: 0/5n. 0/5hc
Throne of the Four Winds 10: 0/2n. 0/2hc
Firelands 10: 7/7 n. 6/7hc
Dragon Soul 10-25: 8/8 n. 8/8hc

MoP:

Hunter (BM and SV):

Mogu’shan Vaults 10: 6/6n. 4/6 hc
Heart of Fear 10: 6/6n. 4/6 hc
Terrace of Endless Spring 10: 4/4 n. 1/4hc
Throne of Thunder: - completely missed this patch
Siege of Orgrimmar: 14/14 normal, 12/14 hc (before the mythic patch)

Elemental Shaman:

Mogu’shan Vaults 10: 0/6n. 0/6 hc
Heart of Fear 10: 0/6n. 0/6 hc
Terrace of Endless Spring 10: 0/4 n. 0/4hc
Throne of Thunder: - completely missed this patch
Siege of Orgrimmar: 14/14 mythic

WoD:

Elemental Shaman:

Highmaul: 7/7 n. 7/7hc. 5/7mythic
Blackrock Foundary: 10/10 hc. 0/10 mythic
Hellfire Citadel: 13/13 hc. 0/13 mythic

Well this is, with all my honesty, all the bosses I have killed during their proper patch. I know that there is a visible divergence from high end raiding but life changes, priorities changes… Well the first time I stepped into karazhan, it was a few week before my 19th birthday, a freshman in university with not much social life and many time to play the game. Now I’m half passed 28, married, working 10-12 hours/day week days and 7 hours on Saturdays and doing my PhD. Obviously I can’t raid 6 hours/day and 6 days a week anymore. But I like the game, and I love raiding. I know I still can perform well, but for a limited time frame. I might fall behind from time to time, but I sure can catch up when I can.

Previous Guilds:

TBC:

<Supreme>: Stopped  Raiding

WoTLK:

<Mojo Madness>: Supreme started raiding again
<Supreme>: Stopped  raiding again
<Shine>: Merged with <CATASTROPHE> I was burned out from wiping on LK 25hc. Just didn’t follow the guild to form a new one with 3 irl friends: <eia>

Cataclysm

I played with <eia> through the expansion.

MoP:

<eia>: We disbanded the guild due irl issues and commitments.
<E M B R A C E>: I left in order to form another guild with my cousins.

WoD:

<Attic>: We disbanded the guild for toxic server
<Savage Tribe>: Raiding nights were increased from 2 to 3 and then to 4. So I wasn’t able to attend nearly half of the raids.

Legion:

<RnG>: Well I’m just social here.

Availability:

I am totally available to raid 2 nights/week and  Monday and Thursday are perfect for me. Maybe I can create time for 3 nights/week for a determined time period or from time to time. BUT, and it is a big but, unfortunately. Due to my job, I am travelling from time to time. (For instance I'll be on a trip for tomorrow and Saturday.) Those travels last up to 1 week. And I will not be able to raid that week if it happens. The good part is that my travels will be scheduled at least 10 days in advance. So I will be able to inform the guild about my absence.

20:00 server time is great for me, even in the worse case scenario, I'm at home fully dined etc... at 19:20 server time. So as long as I'm in the city, and nothing unforeseen has happened, I will be ready yo raid.

Communication:

Yes I am totally fine with reading, listening and talking in English. (got 107 from the last toefl ibt i took :P)
I have all the VoIP software installed on my PC.
I have my headset and I can use it when it is necessary.

Computer / Connection:

My computer is decent, It was top notch when I assembled it. It is a little bit older now, but WoW works fine in it.
I'm also planing about some small upgrades in near future.
My internet connection is fiber optic, it is stable and fast enough. I'm not having too much lag lately.

Addons/UI:

my addons:
Auctinator
BagBrother
Bagnon
Bartender4
Garrison Mission Manager
GTFO
HandyNotes
Master Plan
Omen
Prat
Recount
SexyMap
TomTom
WeakAuras
DBM

And I have any sort of loot council addons if it is needed.

My UI:

Fallout
Baldur's Gate (yeah still)
Pillars of Eternity

PES series
FM series

Why Iron Edge?

I was looking for a guild which raids 1-2 days a week. There are plenty of them, but as soon as I noticed that Iron Edge is an 11 years old guild with all this old school website (which is not a premade template.) Then I read the posts on the home page, I've read that people read the applications and comment on them, asks questions about them. It just felt like the guilds that I used to play in long time ago in TBC and WotLK. So I decided to apply to the guild. As weekday or a weekend raider. I want to join this community and I want to raid and i want to raid in an atmosphere like what I saw in the website.

What can I offer Iron Edge?

I'm a veteran player. I managed to play this game and this far in my life, I enjoy its every moment.
I am an experienced raider, I've played the game in top level for at least 2 expansions: (TBC, WotLK). I know how to come prepared to the raid. Mentally and in-game.
I am an experienced GM/officer, co-founder GM and officer of 2 respected Turkish guild in Cata and MoP.
I am a mage enthusiast (I have a tattoo of Raistlin Majere on my arm XD) and I have finally the freedom to choose the class that I really want to play, so I am looking forward to raid as a mage. So you'll have a very motivated player in your ranks.

Where did I hear about Iron Edge?

I have found Iron Edge in wowprogress.

Last Words?

I'm applying for a raider spot, and I am aware that you aren't recruiting now. So I am also up for a weekend raider spot. I'm still not a very social and talkative person, but I sure like to talk and share things with people. If you have anything to tell me or to ask me you can always whisper me in game or just fire all your questions down this application. I'll be more than happy to answer them. Feel free to add my battletag: Daenor#1809

Absolutely one of the best applications I have read in my wow gaming career.

Rhaaja, we have 3 groups, one raids just Sunday's being our porkchoppers team lead by Xorm, the too old for this raid team which raid I believe 2 days a week lead by Abyiss which are both progressing heroic EN just now and our try hard express team lead by Rashkebab that raid the mythic modes that raid 2 days a week too. Now the good news is I'm sure one of the groups can get you in consider the classes you can play and the sheer effort you put into this application.

I can't put a thing down on this apply which pains me as I usually take great joy in wrecking applicants that don't put the effort in so good job!!!

Hopefully one of those three will get back to you and I'm sure the mages in guild would like to check it over and may have questions for you.

Good luck on the apply but I don't think you'll need it .

Oh, I'm glad, and I'm happy that I managed to make a good first impression for you guys.

I hope that one of your Raid groups would find me useful for their Raid formations.

I'm looking forward for questions and duscussions from your mage squad and officer squad ofc.

Hiyo, Rhaaja!

Sorry for the late response, I have been lurking around this application for some while now, not completely sure how to respond to it. As has been stated already, this is an excellent application and it is always nice to have another one of these where you see the applicant actually putting in quite a decent amount of time in applying.

As of now our raiding roster is rather full (mostly on dirty, dirty melee dps), but it would be a damn shame for me to turn you away without at least trying you out. So, our next raid when we will be doing farm content (Thursday 20th) I would really like for you to come and I will get you into the raid and see how you do comparatively to the rest of our raiding team, and I will be making my decision after that raid based on your performance.

If this is of any interest to you, please add me on bnet at Chissagi#2322 and I hope to see you on Thursday!

Hello! I'll be happy to attend a trial run on your raid day.

As I mentioned before I'm on a business trip right now. I will be online in game this afternoon. I will surely add your battletag today.

Thank you for the opportunity :) hope to talk to you soon.
