He was not afraid to die,
O brave Trialist Joe.
He was not at all afraid to be killed in nasty ways,
Brave, brave, brave, brave Trialist Joe!

He was not in the least bit scared to be mashed into a pulp,
Or to have his eyes gouged out and his elbows broken,
To have his kneecaps split and his body burned away
And his limbs all hacked and mangled, brave Trialist Joe!

His head smashed in and his heart cut out
And his liver removed and his bowels unplugged
And his nostrils raped and his bottom burned off
And his pen--

(continues)

Bravely Joe ran away,
Bravely ran away, away.

When danger reared its ugly head,
he bravely turned his tail and fled.
Yes, brave Trialist Joe turned about
And gallantly, he chickened out.

Bravely taking to his feet,
He beat a very brave retreat,
Bravest of the brave, Trialist Joe.

(Don't think it goes with the melody anylonger =/  )

Some of us can draw pictures, I can't. If I try to draw a dog it will end up looking like some wierd mix between a dinosaur and a penguin. But arts are more than just drawings, and I can play music. Finally you'll be able to hear the reason I am such a casual all the time. I spend 2-3 evenings a week playing music! The songs are taken from a rough demo recorded at our friend's place.

So, here it is, the artist in me!

http://www.myspace.com/grasraetur

I play the keyboards/piano. In the pictures I'm wearing a hat and playing the harmonica. I'm the one on the left in the drunken picture taken on the sofa.

Note: we just set up the myspace page yesterday, so it isn't really good looking yet. But we're gonna try and get some work done on it over the christmas.
Note2: The lyrics aren't fully completed, and while I haven't read them over, I guess we have some bad english in there! Our singer writes them and he... could be better at english.

HAH! Palmy my friend, that music is great! Heavy Zep+Doors inspiration it seems, 2 of my absolute favourite bands ever ;D

Of course I never doubted that it would be great, ever since the first time your played us some raid muzacks back in the MC-days ;)

So, because Kaos has limited the size of photos on these forums, I am forced to give you links to photos...!

A photo of Belgrade Fortress... (http://fostersarmy.co.uk/~mrseb/photography/digital/Serbia/2006/Kalemegdan_Park-Belgrade_Fortress-Belgrade-Serbia-November-2006-3-smaller.jpg)

This is a nice night-time shot (http://fostersarmy.co.uk/~mrseb/photography/digital/Serbia/2006/Sveti_Sava_and_Belgrade-Serbia-November-2006-1-smaller.jpg)

Cliched photo of a dog in a boat, on the Danube... (http://fostersarmy.co.uk/~mrseb/photography/digital/Serbia/2006/Sava-Belgrade-Serbia-November-2006-3-smaller.jpg)

And there's more...! But I won't bore you.

They're not my best photos, but they're of Serbia... so it's contextual and stuff, so they have added value!

Ok, here's the very beginning of a monster I'm creating...

It's really only in the very beginning stages, so it's also very flat looking currently.

1st pic is the cg beginnings, 2nd pic is the sketch of the full creature.

Well, the beast is scary, and the girl is cute...

All as intended, right?

I like the beast... Face is scary, but obviously the whole body needs to have lots of twists and rivulets and maimed creases to really make them worthy of a denizen of Hell!
Title: Re: The artist in you!
Post by: Kawe / Dave on January 06, 2007, 11:04:40 pm
Yeah, working as intended, kind of. Regarding the beast, damn, you're very right... wish I'd thought of that already. Hopefully I can add some miscellaneous hell-accessories as I go with the cg though. :)

The BE was looking a level of crap I couldn't bear, so despite it originating as a trash scribble, I've done some quick shading on some of it.As you can see, I've neglected the arms etc :p
(http://img154.imageshack.us/img154/7688/wipbe2hx3.png)

The main problem with the thing is I started on a way too small canvas/scale, so I might revisit the same drawing on a larger scale sometime. Maybe.

Aye I agree with Daekesh, hair looks really good. Something is odd about handes though. I guess she is rogue, but Nightslayesr Boobs are on wrong location :p
Title: Re: The artist in you!
Post by: Kelrathos on January 07, 2007, 12:44:09 pm
the hair is looking pretty neat there, Kawe. A little tip though, for the rest of the drawing, watch out with using white as your highlights on anything but yellow (unless you are creating an extremely overexposed image, in which case everything will "go to white"). the boobies are pretty glaring ;)
The best way to go about shading is to choose the colour of your lightsource first, ie. yellow if it's a late summers day, almost blueish white if it's a full moon etc. You then highlight with your chosen lightsource-colour, and shade with the complementary colour (in yellow's case, purple). Also, the "transition" between light and shade will almost always be more saturated than the rest of the plane.

this (http://itchstudios.com/psg/art_tut.htm) is an invaluable tutorial, that I've found indispensable. I hope I made a little sense, and that I've helped just a wee bit :)
Title: Re: The artist in you!
Post by: Kawe / Dave on January 08, 2007, 12:28:46 pm
Nice tutorial. Any good books you could recommend of the same ilk? Love having books to reference :) Also means I can read 'em in bed, perfect for a sleepy fellow.

When you mentioned the overexposure, do you mean it should basically be all of the image or none?

Also, cheers for that little tidbit about complementary colours being used for shade, love learning useful little things like that :D

I'll do some less shit art and post it up. If I can dig them out, I'll post some A3 stuff I did with traditional media, which I guarantee won't offend your eyes as much as most of the trash I spew forth :)

eDIT**

Here's something I've excreted via photoshop just now, or rather, begun excreting.
(http://img153.imageshack.us/img153/5927/facewipxc3.th.png) (http://img153.imageshack.us/my.php?image=facewipxc3.png)

C&C very welcome. Kelrathos' kind of reply is on a level of heroic to me :)

EDITagain... Fixing the misaligned mouth.. flipped the image and it's glaring at me  :-X
Title: Re: The artist in you!

yes, the overexposure is pretty much an all-or-nothing. Mind you, these rules are all well and good, but the real hardcore artists (like Craig Mullins and even old masters like Rembrandt) break them on a daily basis. Us mere mortals though, do good to remember them every step of the way :)

Regarding books, I am slaving through this (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Elements-Color-Treatise-System-Johannes/dp/0471289299/sr=8-1/qid=1168264637/ref=sr_1_1/202-9902693-1630268?ie=UTF8&s=books) at the moment, for the 4th time. It is widely recognised as one of the easiest (mind you, "easy" is complete nonsense in this case, at least to me :D) books on the subject of colour, and basic colour-theory. Add me to your msn (sgreulich@hotmail.com) and we can chat all night about this stuff. I am just as much of an aspiring artist as you, we may be able to learn from each other ;)

for now I gots to go, I'm off work, woohoo!

Ok guys. I tought that I should post this here too :P

So this is the cartoon saga or whatever that I have made called ''The Gayness''. It is about two guys fighting a sickness or whatever you call it called ''The Gayness''. The first three episodes are made in paint and made in my.... younger days. So the english might suck a ... little much. But I guess it gets bether.

This is Part 1. The quality and sound and that sucks on this one but.. hey. :P

This is part 2. Still on paint and yeah.. Still a bit noobish ..

This is part 3. This one is a bit bether. Still on paint but. And there is unfortunately no subtitles on this one.

This is part 4. On this one I started to use flash. AND I got a bether mic.

This is part 5.

And this is part 6. I wont make a new one for a while now. Atleast not before Im lvl 70 or something.

It is a bit intern humour going around some places. But I hope u enjoy it. Cake.

The eclipse itself was too dark to actually photograph, so I took this shot just before the actual eclipse.

You can see how the oncoming red eclipse tainted the moon a rather lovely pinkish colour.

The fork in my hand is about 50cm long, and the gaping maw of my mouth is at least a meter in diameter.

My hair is over 2 meters in length!

Doesn't mean it's good though, so don't get hopes up :P I'm just pleased to feel like I'm improving again, for the first time in a good while. It's technically a self-portrait, but it's not massively accurate. Chin is too small, eyes aren't drooped, blah blah. So only a passing, teeny resemblence. Can't win 'em all ;P

About time I put in some more stuff here.

These two songs were recorded using an imac and the built-in microphone! We did it just for fun last week, so never mind the quality :)

Sleazy Going: http://www.palmar.se/Tonlist/sleazy1.m4a
Wonderland: http://www.palmar.se/Tonlist/wonderlandcomp5.m4a

The bassist (owner of the imac) did some compressing/equalizing work on the songs, so it actually sounds decent.

Yeah, I wanted the lighting to just hit the furthestmost part of the planet, but as I am not to good in photoshop yet, I had problems doing that, so I just went with lighting the full part of the planet. 'Cause I just used a lighteffect around the planet.

Was toying with the idea of doing some doodles of some of teh guild folk, and through a combination of narcissim and fear of offending others for what happens to their character when I draw it I've thrown this together of my main.

Unfortunately I find my undead's face horrendously boring to draw (the lack of features probably plays a part). Anyways, as with all things I tend not to finish something like this, but might come back to it... some day :P

Another totem, not windfrury, still figuring out how to draw it, in meantime here Earth elemental totem. It still miss much details, and i need to figure out some thing about shading and coloring, some shading lines are way too obvious, and i could do better job on elemental, but anyway looks good. Anyway, you should zoom out it to whole screen, that fixes some of shading thingies.

We have a 'University' here Inphy, but
1. It's Faroese, which means you need to know the language.
2. It has very limited programs.

I'm not even sure it counts as a University really :p

I'm speaking of the "Fróskaparsetur Føroya", that's how that works, right Zatz? oO

Great pictures Zatz, you edited some in Photoshop though I can tell, either that or you're using some neat camera tricks :p

That's amazing.

But just a 'offtopic' question. With what programs do you draw your pictures with Kawe? The one with the zombie etc. You're not doing that by hand are you?

Or does anyone has some tutorials for Adobe Illustrator? Can't find alot of usefull ones on the internet.

Wow Zatz, don't think I ever saw the "Norðlýsi" as strong as that.. Must've been some strong solar flares causing that.

Don't wanna ruin the moment, but if you look at that picture, you'll see that the guy has been pushing up the green colors a lot. So much that the entire picture is green'ish because he apparently forgot the masking feature ;)

Nothing wrong in making the impact of a motif strong(er), but doing it 'incorrectly' just ruins a good frame imo.
Title: Re: The artist in you!
Post by: delling on February 13, 2009, 02:09:06 pm
I would say it's tough to call -- there's no green on the other highlights in the frame -- just in the water. That could easily be a reflection...

Remember, this is likely a huge exposure -- at least 5, 10 seconds, maybe more.

Aurora Borealis doesn't look that vivid to the naked eye obviously, but it doesn't look 'far off' what I've seen in other photos.

Where'd you see the excess green?
Title: Re: The artist in you!
Post by: kagir on February 13, 2009, 02:19:05 pm
I see green'ish in the dark areas as well in the frame. Could be my laptop monitor :/

Actually, the northern lights can look that impressive, but you won't see them over a city/town like this without a camera, because the street lights interfere with your vision.

You can use an awesome freeware program called Opencanvas. But version 1.0 is freeware, but its a very solid program if you have a tablet.

I figured this stuff was a bit artistic, so I wanted to throw it in here. Basically, we've got lectures on electromagnetism atm, and work with positive and negative charges (duuh), so I figured I'd run over into our auditorium before the a lecture and play around with some chalk on the six blackboards we have. This is the result:

(http://img19.imageshack.us/img19/474/n6714898681282339894.th.jpg) (http://img19.imageshack.us/my.php?image=n6714898681282339894.jpg)

What was even better though was that our professor thought it was pretty fun, so when he arrived he started adding more stuff and lables to my drawing, among other things adding +Q and -Q for the positive and negative charge respectively, and then just writing formulas between my fieldlines:

(http://img207.imageshack.us/img207/5600/n67148986812823444908.th.jpg) (http://img207.imageshack.us/my.php?image=n67148986812823444908.jpg)

HDR cooked together from 5 shots with 0,7 EV increments. I've tried to hold back on 'the hdr effect'.

Enjoy!

Lovely angle (though I think I've seen shots of NYC from that position a few times now!), and a lovely photo.

Gotta love those tiny tilts in photos, and which horizontal axis you decide to balance it around. The worst is when you have a horizontal bridge, and a horizontal horizon somewhere else... but one of them is slightly out... Grr.

I know - it's a very photographed view of downtown. What makes this a little different is the 'poles' sticking up from the water - I think it adds dimention to the frame. But yeah, you're so limited on foot and in company of umm.. not-so-interested-in-waiting-for-you-running-around-finding-something-original people ;)

Yeah horizons.. and then add wide-angle distortions on top of that. hngg
Title: Re: The artist in you!
Post by: delling on April 29, 2009, 03:47:11 pm
Yar, gotta love poles! In the small version, they almost looked like they were propping up the bridge (which looks really small actually).

When I get around to blogging about Italy (not sure when) I'll put up some nice photos from Venice. I found some nice poles there too!
Title: Re: The artist in you!
Post by: kagir on April 29, 2009, 03:50:42 pm

our family were on a visit to svĂnoy which has one of the fewest inhabitated villages this weekend and i took a series of phots from it and thought i should share some:

The first one is the village of Hvannasund where the boat departs to SvĂnoy

the next 3 pictures are from the village svĂnoy which is also situated on the village svĂnoy ( creative  :) )

This picture is from the neighboring island Fugloy and one if its villages

Final one is a stone situated in the church of svĂnoy, its a stone where a crucefix has been carved into, and this stone was said to belong to SvĂnoyar Bjarni, who was a Viking chief , who lived in SvĂnoy for around 1000 years ago.

This recording is from last year, when I sang second bass in an all male choir in Trondheim. It is from an international choir competition in Budapest in the spring of 09. Songs being performed are ''Olav Tryggvason'' and ''Gryning vid Havet''.

This post is mainly for Delling since he so much wanted to experience whale killing while visiting on the Islands, and last night we had our first "grindadráp" whale kill for 7 years and i took the liberty to borrow some of my friends pictures to show Delling and those of you that might be interested in this very old Faroese tradition.

If some find it disturbing, then to our defense i want to point out that all the animal is eaten and the killing is fast and its not as inhumane as it might look.

To those that still find it disturbing in their paul fatson wanna be hearts,   I DONT CARE, we loved it and it was glorious to finally get some whale meat again  ;D

Post by: delling on July 19, 2010, 05:19:54 pm
Yeah! It was tasty! But the bit I had was prepared a bit too much like BEEF... so it tasted like beef. Just... thicker.

It's very dark meat, which most people don't realise -- whales are mammals, so the meat is like... dark beef (or deer, I guess). The meat is almost black -- kinda cool.

Ah, lots of that whale kind you caught still around.

The figure accepted by the International Whaling Commission's Scientific Committee is the 778,000 animals obtained by the North Atlantic Sightings Survey in 1992. Those in favour of whaling, such as the North Atlantic Marine Mammal Commission in their 1997 and 1999 report on the hunt,[19] say that this is a conservative estimate, whilst those opposed to the hunt, such as the Whale and Dolphin Conservation Society say the figure is over-estimated. If the figure is accepted, then the average kill from 1990–1999 of 956 animals per year, represents a little more than 0.1% of the population, which the commission has deemed sustainable.

In its Red List of Threatened Species the IUCN lists both the Long-finned and Short-finned Pilot Whales with "Data Deficient" status according to its 2008 assessment. In a previous assessment in 1996 the organization listed the species in the "Lower Risk/least concern" category. However, the IUCN also says that with an estimated subpopulation size of 778 000 in the eastern North Atlantic and approximately 100 000 around the Faroes, Faroese catches of 850 per year are probably sustainable.[20]

According to the American Cetacean Society — a whale protectionist group — pilot whales are not considered endangered. The society cites that there are likely about 1 000 000 long-finned and at least 200 000 short-finned pilot whales worldwide.[21]
Title: Re: The artist in you!
Post by: delling on July 19, 2010, 05:29:54 pm
Yeah, I think most arguments against whaling are now along the 'dangerous levels of mercury' lines. And because it looks really damn disgusting/awesome with the blood in the water, of course. Very easy to print hard-hitting propaganda when you have sights like that -- not so easy to take big landscape shots of cow/pig abattoirs.

Then there's the whole 'omg, whales and dolphins are intelligent!!' argument, but so are pigs...

Did you know that tuna can weigh up to a ton, or something stupid like that? But they're so overfished that they never get that big any more. Fish! Larger than whales! Crazy.

I would like to add to this discussion.

Whale is _awesome_

It's right up there with beef, veal, lamb. A properly cooked (ie. medium rare or rare) whale is a delicious steak. Just like beef, it really suffers if you overcook it.

so yeah, what you want is a fairly thick chunk, spice it up to your liking (I'm a big fan of olive oil/black pepper/salt) and then just cook and serve it like proper steak

Medium rare at most.

The last 2-3 years I've been really caught up in playing instruments, guitar and bass as such, so I've done som covers on youtube, gonna be some more over the next months hopefully, since I invested quite alot in a new soundcard. As a fellow musician i hope you wont get offended by this comment, but you would really develop a much better sound if you got yourself a metronome, i noticed sometimes your timing is a little off. Im being picky because i appreciate whats being played more than say somebody who doesnt play guitar or bass, you may not be able to hear it yourself however, when somebody reccomended a metronome to me years ago i felt offended as to me i sounded perfect, but it really made a huge difference.

If you listen to your End of heartache cover its off qin a couple of places in the opening 2minutes, however your my curse cover is MUCH better and more in time with the music.

As i said i hope you dont get offended, just offering some constructive criticism, as im quite the accomplished musician myself :D

Anyway keep on practicing and rocking out! I enjoyed watching your vids.

I hadn't noticed because I never pay attention, but apparently my band got picked up by some internet label.

http://www.chingchingblingbling.com/artist/spacevestite

the music video we did, containing the last song from the apparently upcoming album (it was recorded like 2 years ago).

Technically I've left the band, but since they can't find a replacement yet, I still play live shows and show up for a practice once a week.

Demo Version me and the guitarist I'm in a band with made today. :) Its currently without vocals, don't know when I'll be able to get them done. Its a tinsy bit sloppy here and there.

The drums were made with AddictiveDrums, the bass is some bass-module I got of the interwebz. The guitars are miced up with a Shure SM57 to a Marshall JVM410 Half-Stack in my room! :)

Comments and critics are very welcome!

So here we go:

The digital release of our album is out. The band really stopped over a year ago, but this online company wanted to release the album anyway.

You can listen to the entire album right there on the page

http://chingchingblingbling.bandcamp.com/album/spacevestite

I play the Keyboard/Synths/Piano... probably will end up as my only proper artistic work!

I guess I'm kinda happy someone actually decided to release it, no matter how small the company is :)

Anyone here got experience with vector graphics?

I have the IE logo as a vector graphic, but it has lots of 'small bits' which can't be printed (on t-shirts). I need to clean up those little bits, while still retaining the overall IEness.

Large PNG attached, so you can see the little bits (they're around the letters).

My newest doodle as of today 14-03-2012. Snake style, pretty close to the style of my waterlions' doodle. I will be expanding on that in the future, trying to convey some depth. I am a real noob tho, I have to get some tips from people but I am always short on time. :( I will call this one Roads. A bit inspired from a drawing of Salvador Dali I saw recently. I guess I can make my own pic blog and just bla bla there, but I never had a blog.

(http://img859.imageshack.us/img859/6742/tattoora.jpg) (http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/859/tattoora.jpg/)

Edit: There are those stray lines on some places, but when I blur my vision (intentionally, you know how) it looks just as good as it should be for me.

This was the idea I came up with.
This was when I had some time to expand on the idea. The red circles are a motiff from graffiti, as are the outlines that make the whole thing look like its 3d , or just if you will - more dynamic. Red, because I see the top IE logo has red in it. (some blood on the blade is too much, maybe too worn out, who doesn't put blood on their blade drawings.)

For a while I have been thinking of drawing an IE logo, that started when you guys decided to start forming a pro dota team. So I was thinking about how a logo like this should look like and I had no clue at all. I still don't have any clue how it should look, but I came up with the idea in the first picture, then expanded on it when I had some time to do it.

If someone whose hobby is drawing or just has good software skills and will to expand(color) my sketches, modify them so maybe they can look more pro, can contact me, I will be happy to copy the original lines in a more clear way and add any other ideas I may have about it.

Leaving it to you to look around and maybe probably post some feedback.

Peas

Edit: Maybe I should have posted part of this in the dota team thread?

Hehe, last one is cool :) Dunno about the crown -- it's a tagging motif as well, eh?

The main thing is whether the blade is obviously an 'E' or not, I think.

Other option could be to have IRON EDGE, and then just a sword as our logo, on its own?
Title: Re: The artist in you!

I always thought Iron Edge embossed onto a sword's blade would look cool.  Something like:

Yes it's a tagging motiff as well, i put it just for flavor.

The blade is an E yes, maybe it can be worked out to look more like an E.

just the idea of TEXT over a sword.

Delling's idea - the first one.
Handle ment to be an I in the third logo.

I personally think the text should be bigger than the symbol, I read it in here

After i googled sword images I thought I'll google axe images..
maybe an axe, the edge there looks like an E, another idea there

Ya, axes are cool -- but IE's coat of arms (in WoW) is a sword! So we should probably stick to that.

Post by: mayx on April 20, 2012, 05:06:51 pm
BAM and then use a similar way to reach a similar to this one which I really like http://www.methodwow.com/. Size it down a bit, fit text inside the borders, current text is just get a better idea

Maybe it'd be more like an E if u used a kris?

Make the curves more pronounced.
Title: Re: The artist in you!
Post by: delling on April 20, 2012, 06:31:58 pm
It's OK, Maix, but probably not very usable (it would be too tall to use in the banner!)

Better if the sword is horizontal, I think (and the text, too).
Title: Re: The artist in you!
Post by: mayx on April 20, 2012, 06:36:07 pm
Ok guys, my idea was to make something that has the guild tabard outline and have the text inside, trying to achieve a similar effect like the Method logo. I believe the Method logo came out as a good idea, but they kept the tabard outline and form and allignment.
Title: Re: The artist in you!
Post by: delling on April 20, 2012, 06:37:27 pm
Yep, tabard is cool -- or a shield (coat of arms). But I'd rather have horizontal text -- I don't want vertical :)

Ya, much better!

Sword would have to be longer I think -- it's a bit of a dagger at the moment (again, a good reason to make it horizontal).

Ok did the sword horizontal, but again according to the logo guides, there has to be bigger text and smaller cartoons.
See if you like this one.

The sword and shield is pretty cool! The other writing is unnecessary :)

If you're going sword and shield, though, we should probably make sure the scale is correct.. (it's a very small shield atm :P)

Inb4 Dell says it's a dagger.

It is a bit short, but making it longer might not work so well.

I'm no artist, but can it be drawn "fading out" or something like that? (the sword)

So, I've been recording quite a bit the last few months, some covers and some of my own songs. :)

The newest cover is My Sweet Shadow; http://soundcloud.com/kergash/kergash-my-sweet-shadow

Quite a bit of the other covers and demos can be found on my profilepage. Would love some feedback on what you think about these!

it's good, I liked the combination melancholic part 0:43 to 1:12 + the transition
maybe u can make the part after the transition less dramatic.. u know? those long bashes make it sound dramatic to me

regards

I had time to upload this yesterday. So it was a jot idea when we were talking about a guild logo. Imagine the cube logo rotated in any direction you like and say if you want to try this as a new upgraded "3D" logo. (http://imageshack.us/a/img832/4949/6757s.jpg)

I also uploaded some other old shit that I upgraded just yesterday.
