Grand Theft Auto IV
« on: April 30, 2008, 07:44:56 pm »
Got this game yesterday, and boy it sure is a blast!

The storyline is cliché, but it still does it's job perfectly.
You, Niko Bellic, arrive in America from some slavic country, and you work your way up the criminal ladder together with your retarded-but-heart-in-the-right-place cousin Roman. This is all done while your dark past is being brought to light. The characters personality and attitudes are exactly what I was hoping for with this game, and more so. It really gives you that feeling of a corrupted, thuggish surrounding, and you are the star in it.

Currently I am playing singleplayer, but I did briefly try multiplayer with Kenshin last night, and it's the most fun I've had in a long time on a console. If ever. There are a multitude of gametypes to choose from, although we only got to play "Cops and Crooks" which is a cat and mouse race, insanely fun! you can be up to 16 players in each game!

This game would be fun even without any missions whatsoever, I enjoy just driving around town for hours, beating up random people and commit heinous acts as I go down the roads of Liberty City.
I have only progressed 13.81% through the storyline so far, and I've played for nearly 7 hours. This sure is a game that will last a long long time, even after that big singleplayer story. Add to that a huge variety of multiplayer options, and you got a perfect game.

It is so easy to forget you are only playing a game!

9.9/10

I'd be pretty surprised if they didn't port to pc. Don't forget it was originally going to be just PS3, then MS were all like, "hey look, money" and voila it's on 360 too; I'm sure they will work the same magic again :)

Really itching to play this... and the worst part is I know there's a copy sitting waiting for me at my flat, but I'm not heading back there until monday/tuesday. Can't wait!

O hai, didn't notice this thread..
GTA IV is indeed fantastic on the PS3, I've played for a good 50 hours now, plus some sandboxing and multiplayer that didn't get saved.
The variety of multiplayer games is awesome, and the games are sooo much fun! FFA deathmatch, cops and crooks, car jack city.. They're all so much fun, and I never seem to get bored with them.

Also, I like the eastern european accent, a funny twist from the previous GTA games. It all feels so real; drunk driving, graphics, driving mechanics.. The ONLY thing so far that I reacted on is that I had a car run over me once, and the driver stepped out, walked over and started beating the shit out of me.
All in all, fabulous game that I and Vorte will be playing hardcore even next year when we go to uni.
