Weekend Raider Application - Druid (Tank) - Lovesick (XR)
« on: March 06, 2015, 10:48:21 pm »
Hello, Iron Edge!

I am applying for the Weekend Raid.

Character: Lovesick
Server: Grim Batol
Armory: http://eu.battle.net/wow/en/character/Grim%20Batol/Lovesick/advanced
Class/Spec: Druid (Tank)
Member Type: wraider

Personal Info:

Hjalte Thor
27 years old
Living in London, originally from Denmark
Software Developer at JUST EAT

I realise that you are a Horde guild (I am currently Alliance). You're also on a different server than I am currently, but I would be willing to switch.

Class/Spec:

I am primarily a tank. I enjoy tanking, staying alive and dealing with fight mechanics.

My gear level in my tanking gear is 680.

My offspec is Moonkin. I feel fairly comfortable as a Moonkin, although I would need practise in order to raid as DPS. I have never healed as a druid, but I have gone Feral for some of this expansion. It seemed like Ferals were fine on most boss fights, but lacked heavily on trash and on most AoE fights.

My gear level as a Moonkin is around 671, but that is including my mastery tanking trinket, which I use as it is better than what I have for DPS. If I were to raid as DPS regularly, I would find better trinkets.

I've played a druid since Wrath of the Lich King. I enjoy being able to cover every need of a raid (although I've only ever played 3 of the 4 specs).

When tanking, my primary stats are stamina, bonus armor, agility, multistrike (up to 10% raid-buffed), mastery.

I use a combination of Icy Veins and AskMrRobot to keep up with what stats to choose, and have run my own SimCraft calculations in the past.

When tanking I use a priority list which is something like the following:

Mangle when I can to generate rage
Keep up Pulverize
Keep up Savage Defense, while tanking (while off-tanking letting it recharge)
Keep up Trash bleed
(if off-tanking, or lots of rage)Use any extra rage for Maul when Tooth and Claw procs
(if tanking)Use any extra rage on Frenzied Regeneration

My talent choices are as follows:
Tier 1: Feline Swiftness or Displacer Beast according to what the current fight needs. Displacer Beast is very good for fights like Imperator and Blackhand (on Blackhand you can teleport back to the platform in the third phase if you are hit by an unlucky strike). On most fights I use Feline Swiftness currently.

Tier 2: Cenarion Ward. I recently switched from Renewal, which I used as an extra cooldown, but Cenarion Ward does so much healing that it's a very effective pre-emptive cooldown.

Tier 3: Typhoon, for dealing with adds mostly.

Tier 4: Soul of the Forest, for the extra rage (which leads to more survivability via Savage Defense and Frenzied Regen)

Tier 5: Mighty Bash for extra stun. I'd be fine with switching to any of the others if they could help deal with adds on any fight, but I haven't seen a situation where that was needed yet.

Tier 6: Dream of Cenarius. Enables instant Healing Touches, which can be used as an extra cooldown, and instant Rebirths for those You're-the-only-one-with-a-combat-ress-get-the-healer-up situations.

Tier 7: Pulverize. This is by far the best tier 7 talent and is an integral part of my rotation. I would consider Bristling Fur now that 6.1 reduced the cooldown, where it might be nice on bosses with predictable, and frequent, heavy hits like Kromog.

Alts:

I have no alts to speak of (and certainly no Horde alts).

Professions:

My professions are Enchanting and Alchemy. They're both 700 and I have all recipes.

Professions used to matter, but now I might reroll Alchemy to Engineering for Jeeves and other helpful items.

Raiding Experience:

I raided regularly from Vanilla to Cataclysm. I killed twins in AQ40 back in the day before switching servers to play with friends, resetting my progress to BWL.

In Cataclysm I worked on heroic Dragon Soul with my guild until we were unable to raid just before killing heroic Madness.

In Pandaria I was busy studying and only ever did the first couple of raids on a PuG-level.

In Warlords I have been Pugging everything. I like to think I am a capable tank, so I have been able to join fairly successfull groups.

More specifically I've done 7/7HC, 2/7 Mythic, 10/10N and 7/10HC, all in Pugs.

I'm tired of pugging now. I've had my share of ninjaing raid leaders, strange guilds using tactics they must have made up while high and groups falling apart after the first wipe.

Previous Guilds:

I am currently in After Life, which is a guild we brought from Dunemaul to Kazzak some expansions ago. It has 2-3 members logging in every week.

Availability:

I work from 9 to 17.30 UK time every day. I'm home at around 18.30 UK time, which is 19.30 server time.

I am usually always available in the evening, unless attending social work events. I would never attend an event on a raid night (and I realise I am signing up for the weekend raids).

Communication:

I am very proficient in English, and I have all of the voice programs installed and ready.

I feel comfortable talking on TeamSpeak.

Computer / Connection:

I built a new PC a couple of weeks back with a GTX 980 and a 4790K. It handles WoW very well.

I have a stable 70/30 internet connection, and have never had any serious outages.
My ms is 20 ingame.

Addons/UI:

One addon that I swear by is AdiButtonAuras (Used to be AdiInlineAura). It highlights your current debuffs on the target on your actions bars, making it easy to know when to reapply debuffs.

I also have the normal suite of raid addons such as Skada, DBM, Omen and GTFO.

I use Super Villain UI for my UI (http://www.curse.com/addons/wow/supervillain-ui), which is a full UI replacement much like ElvUI.

I also have WeakAuras2 installed and a few things setup, such as external cooldowns on me and a timer for my Dream of Cenarius (instant Healing Touch).

Here is a screenshot of my UI in a pretend-raid from LFG: http://imgur.com/AuijNoo

Other Games:

I like Role Playing games, especially RPGs like Final Fantasy 7-10, but also newer games like Witcher 2 (looking forward to Witcher 3) and Batman series.

I also like indie games, and have put in way too many hours on Binding of Isaac (all three versions).

Why Iron Edge?

Your raid times suit me very well, and a good friend (who I met through WoW) recently joined you (Leony).

I would have preferred to join one of the raids running twice a week, but at the moment I just want to raid with nice people, and if that's once a week for now, then that is fine.

What can I offer Iron Edge?

A stable and skilled tank (or sometimes a funny looking owl, if needed).

A friendly person outside of raids. I like doing old achievements and often run old raids for mounts. I have a lot of free time outside of work.

Where did I hear about Iron Edge?

My friend, Leony, who just joined you.

Last Words?

<3

We are in desperate need of a stable tank, since we've been screwed a bit by one. Are you sure you wanna downgrade? I mean, our progress is up to Blackhand, normal.

If that's ok with you, and weekend raiding is something you'd be interested in, you're more than qualified to be our second tank.

Will need to have a talk with the tanks in the guild, to see how viable druids are. Other than that, all fine by me.

I'm fine with going back and killing Blackhand. To be honest, he seems more difficult than many of the heroic bosses in BRF.

As for Druid tanks versus the rest, I know some people are saying we are the weakest, but it's not something I have noticed playing with many other tanks. I will often have taken less or equal amounts of damage to other tanks, and I do quite a lot of self-healing as well.

Druids seem perfectly viable. As always it is quite dependant on fight, if its physical or magic damage.

If cooldowns are handled correctly they are just fine.

I'm on Kazzak now, which has changed my armory link:

Let me know when you've made a decision.
