The Golden Compass

So, I just watched ze golden compass, and I was a bit disappointed tbh. I'd hoped for a deeper storyline, or at least one that was a bit more compelling. I had also hoped that the story contained something more original than what has become a bit of a cliché: Orphan child who is the "chosen one". A broad cast of excellent but yet underperforming actors, some of them marginalized in the movie, doesn't exactly lift up the movie imo. To be fair though, the few scenes with Lee Scoresby(Sam Elliot) and Iorek Byrnison(Ian McKellen) were quite good. The idea of the ice bears is quite good and original too. Another thing I always like in movies are the subliminal messages, and I think some of the messages aren't really that subliminal hehe. The so-called authority of the magistrates, an institutions of religious comparison, spreading "truth" in their effort to take control and having nazi-like hencmen. Any1 see a similarity here or is it just me?

Anyways, the movie gets a 6/10, not enough for me to be exited about any sequel.

A half-way decent ending would have been nice.

Yeah. The ending - wtf...? "Ok this will be a trilogy so let's just stop olol!" Bleh.

Great set design and production values, but the story is a bit too weird (lets compress everything into 2h!) and also too "anything can happen" fairytale-ish. And complete focus and the girl == unappealing to grownups.

It felt like it that Tom Clancy game released a few years back, Rainbox Six: Vegas... it ended right in the middle of the campaign... no ending sequence or anything.  Really shitty.

Thought it was pretty enjoyable to watch. Might just be me, easily entertained, but I liked it.

The ending: Well, it was known to be a trilogy, because it's based on a book. But i do agree, a bit abrupt.

All in all, I liked the movie, although that compass makes it a bit 'easy'. She can just ask whatever she likes, and get answers to everyting. So in the next 'war' she can just ask 'Who do i have to kill, to win the war.' or something similair to it.

Unless the compass gets stolen etc. etc.  We'll just see.

The icebears are great, though more background stories or more insights on their 'lair' would've been lovely imo. Like, an Ironforge filled with icebears, forging their armors.

7/10.

Everything was kinda rushed.

*schwoosh* suddenly there are these gypsy guys
*schwoosh* suddenly there is this bear
*schwoosh* suddenly she knows how to use the compass
*schwoosh* suddenly the movie is over

Watched it the other night, wasn't too great in my honest opinion. It started like a new Lord of the Rings, which then switched to some Harry Potter movie until it sort of became a standard Disney movie.

I was about to stop watching halfway but I kept on hoping it would get better, but it didn't get any better and on top of that it just ended!

It'll get a 4/10 from me, wasn't too entertained.

Oh, and I won't be watching the sequel.
