@Cojche; Yes it really helps.
It fixes some basic design defects that windows xp,vista and unfortunately 7 has. Although you are connected to a wireless network windows keeps to perform a full-range scan periodically (once in 60 seconds) which causes noticeable latency once per minute.
It also has some application based traffic shaping.

U can see the effect of the scan yourself if u run this at command line:
