Raider Application - Hunter (DPS) - Shylar
« on: January 20, 2016, 12:29:03 am »
Hello, Iron Edge!

I am applying for the main raid.

Character: Shylar
Armory: http://eu.battle.net/wow/en/character/Kazzak/Shylar/advanced
Class/Spec: Hunter (DPS)
Member Type: raider

Personal Info:

Hello

Guess I'll start with the basics; my name is Gavin and I'm 23 and a recent Uni Grad currently trying to find a job and working in a bar in the meantime. I'm from the mystical land of Scotland where a bird known as a 'haggis' roams the hills with 2 legs shorter than the other so it just wanders in circles.

Class/Spec:

Currently MM as any huntard who intends to raid should be. My favourite hunter spec is Survival (pre nerf) but its simply not viable at the moment.

When progressing I used the Fel Coil trinket (constant crit vs unpredictable procs) and this gives me my soft crit cap at just over 53%. Why 53%? During rapid fire and careful aim we gain +50% crit for aimed shot and -3% for bosses. With this cap, I have put left over enchanting/gem slots into Multistrike.

As in regards to cools, they are used during the ring unless we require additional damage to kill something in time, e.g. phantasmal resonance on iskar. Hunter rotation is pretty simple, chimera shot off cd and pray for 2 set/thrill procs, aimed shot/barrage to fill. Since MM is king in HFC due to its advantages for target switching, being ready to switch immediately is what makes a good hunter (since the careful aim benefit) as well as kill shot snipe on non priority adds.

Alts:

Nothing HFC mythic geared. 8 level 100's on Kazzak

Professions:

Engineering - Give repair bots
Alchemy - Provide myself with pots/flasks

Raiding Experience:

TBC was my most hardcore raiding days. I raided with Bovine Intervention and achieved realm first Hyjal and BT clears. The guild then ran in drama and I only achieved 3/6 SWP before transferring off and taking a break until WotLK.
My raiding in early WotLK raiding was reasonable. There was steady progression through the content culminating in a TotGC HC clear only 4-6 weeks behind the top guilds. ICC progression was limited due to other commitments.
In Cata I raided on and off with Ragnarök who were Realm top 10 (8 if I remember correctly) until earning a spot for DS progression. Ended with Spine HC.
My MoP raiding was very limited, only experiencing the end of the content (post patch)
I am currently 11/13M in HFC M (guild killed mano tonight which I missed but I have over 100 wipes on it).

Previous Guilds:

Conquest - Excellent social guild and many decent players but sadly not enough commitment/recruitment/willingness to push for good progress as a 2 day raiding guild. I raided with them all though BRF and into HFC but we went from 22 raiders to 10 by the time we hit Tyrant and I realised I had to make a change since the only reason I play WoW is to raid.

Failed Experiment - My current guild. The 3 day a week raiding is ill suited for my work/social scedule.

Availability:

No holidays or exams and my work is pretty flexible for days off.

Communication:

Working TS and mic

Computer / Connection:

I play on Ultra settings with 70-90 fps and about 20-40 MS. If my connection ever goes down, I have a monthly 8GB of data on my mobile which I can use to give me a stable connection.

Addons/UI:

http://i.imgur.com/dH8dpaV.jpg

[ Keybind - My opening macro including pot, racial, ring and rapid fire
F Keybind - Blademaster trinket
T Keybind - RF and racial
Z Keybind - Ring, RF and racial
I and U Keybind - Exhilaration and health pot
Mousewheel - Cancel deterrence/BoP macro (filthy paladins)
Mouse button 1 - Disengage
Mouse Button 2 - Deterrence
G, Y and ` Keybinds - My traps
Shift F Keybind - Feign death
Shift C Keybind - Camo

Other Games:

Sports games of Xbox and been messing around on D3 this season

Why Iron Edge?

Been in a raid with some members before and always been decent and friendly players. From viewing your forum and interaction with members, it seems there is a good social environment in the guild which sadly I find lacking in my current guild and its the biggest thing I miss and always make me contemplate moving back to my previous guild Conquest.

What can I offer Iron Edge?

Experienced, reliable raider. No bitching. No moaning. I believe my biggest quality in a raiding environment is my raid awareness. Yes you can stand and focus on procs and try to do top DPS, but if you then die to a mechanic because you were not prepared then your DPS is pointless. As such, I believe my awareness allows me to do both of these pretty well.

Where did I hear about Iron Edge?

Previous raid/Tutan on friends list

Last Words?

Thanks for your consideration

Hi Shylar,

Nice application, would be good to have you raiding with us, another Scot who understands the love of a good sheep!

Shylar asked me to post his logs to show performace as he does not have forum access as yet.

Based on my experience from playing with Shylar, he would be a solid addition to the raid.

Best of luck!

Hey Shylar, I've heard a lot of good things about you from Tutan and it seems he was right - this is indeed a solid application. Good logs, good gear, admittedly very slightly less progress than I would have liked, however most importantly, you seem to have the right attitude.

We currently have a lot of new hunters, however at this point (we will kill Archimonde extremely soon) we are recruiting with the aim of farming Archimonde for as long as possible and investing in players with legion in mind. To me, an application of this standard deserves to be considered regardless of the hunter situation. I'd just like to ask, how do you feel about this situation? Are you looking for an immediate, guaranteed raid-spot or do you also have the long-term perspective in mind? As far as Archimonde progress raids go, we intend to take those with best performance to get the kill. Are you prepared to compete for the spot?

P.s. ain't nobody ever said no to a Scottish man, ain't that right mark? ;)

Waaay too many Hunters, but then again he is a Scot... such a hard decision !

Well if Tut vouches for the man I'm on board.

Solid app, good gear, everything looks to be there.

I've seen this boy in action and i was not disappointed.
I do believe he would bring competition to our current hunters.
He has also been on my friends list for a while, which means he has gotten my approval at some point.
Say no more.

Thanks for the support guys.

In response to your questions Atlanteans, having competition for raid spots is not something new to me and it is something I have experienced since I began raiding in TBC. I won't sit here and say I would be happy to ride the bench until Legion, but I would not mind sitting some raids if required. I review my raid performance via logs and videos I record to maximize my output so I feel I shall provide some strong competition for your current huntards.

As you guys are on the final boss in the final raid of this expansion, I do understand that there will be upcoming farm runs. This is not an issue for me and would be happy to do so until Legion is imminent. I would like to note here that I envision myself taking a month or so raiding break before the release of Legion in order to relax and refresh before upcoming content. I do see this as a permanent guild switch (if accepted) and therefore see myself raiding with IE well into Legion unless personal or guild circumstances change.

If anyone has any further questions I will be checking here regularly and try and respond promptly or you can add Shylar#2137.
