Raider Application - Mage (DPS) - Emalon
« on: September 10, 2020, 12:24:27 am »
Hello, Iron Edge!

I am applying for the main raid.

Character: Emalon
Armory: https://worldofwarcraft.com/en-gb/character/eu/Kazzak/Emalon
Class/Spec: Mage (DPS)
Member Type: Raider

Personal Info:

Hi, I'm Harry. I'm 25 and live in Jersey, which is a small island that resides in the English channel. I've a BSc in Audio Engineering and work as a Treasury/Foreign Exchange Dealer at a bank. I like to record and make music with others when I can get time away from gaming.

I've always been a fan of competitive gaming and have had a hunger to perform in games - I've held masters rank in SC2 in 2011, hit diamond playing every role in LoL over the 8 years I've been playing the game, was 3.8k in Overwatch, Legend in Hearthstone and LEM in CS:GO to kind of go over my 'gaming history' in the past decade.

I've a long history playing WoW - Starting in BC, but not really touching endgame content until WOTLK. I ended up joining a fairly prestigious guild through a friend that was world ~200 in Firelands, it was through this guild I truly learnt a lot about the game, and ended up hitting a world 17th parse on Beth'Tilac in Firelands heroic as my personal big WoW achievement. I joined back in Legion to join a few IRL friends in forming a guild where I hit a lot of legendary parses in EN and Nighthold.

I didn't really have the time to play through BFA, but am looking for a home in Shadowlands to return to the game now I have a bit more time on my hands as my work schedule has free'd up a lot now I'm qualified completely. I play a lot of classes  - DK, Rogue, Mage, Monk, DH and Priest are all classes I'm familiar with on almost every spec aside from Arcane and Holy.

Class/Spec:

**NOTE** - I'm not playing WoW currently, but wish to apply for a trial starting in Shadowlands. The above character is just the character I have played casually most recently for 2-4 weeks at the start of the year.

As mentioned in my personal information, I've mythic raided on DK, Rogue, Mage, Monk, DH and Priest.

I regularly chatted in the DK class discord in early Legion and usually refer to class discords to research the classes I'm playing.

Alts:

I have a DK/Rogue/Mage/Monk/DK/Priest at 120, I plan to play 2-3 alts in Shadowlands depending on how demanding it is to maintain an alt in Shadowlands. I like to be able to Raid on DPS and have TANK/Healer alts to run through Mythic+ on.

Professions:

I really enjoy the perks engineering bought to the game so often prioritise this on my main and alts, although profession bonuses in endgame content are being slowly diminished I usually just take what suits my class most in a raid environment.

Raiding Experience:

I touched on this in my bio, sorry! - I'll copy it over just for a refresher.

Previous Guilds:

I've been in countless guilds across a lot of my characters, but tend to stick around for at-least a whole tier.

Late WOTLK/Early Cata: I raided horde side in a guild called Dogwatch on Kilrogg. I left as Dogwatch dissolved across multiple realms

Cata - Firelands: I raided in a guild called Emminence on Dunemaul - It was with this guild I really learnt a tonen about the game, a lot of members from my previous guild joined and we were immersed with really fantastic players, it was through this guild I secured a world 17th parse on UH DK. I quit WoW during Ragnaros Heroic progression because of school.

*I quit the game from this point until Legion release*

Legion - Emerald Nightmare: I joined a guild of IRL & Online friends called Redmoon II on alliance side on Ravencrest. I loved being back in WoW after what felt like a decade and really took to the game well after a break, I was smashing legendary parses in Mythic and Heroic EN despite being in a cairly casual guild that didn't go past 4/7 EN. It was also at this time I did a LOT of Mythic+ as a tank and contributed to a lot of the DK class Discords EN Blood and Unholy DK resources.

A lot of my friends stopped playing so I had to find a new guild for Nighthold, I was also doing my degree at this time so couldn't play a whole lot going forward. I was between guilds during Nighthold but managed to still get on a few guilds.

BFA: - I played the start of BFA but due to the nature of my job I had to take a lot of qualifications so put a lot of gaming on the backburner for the time being. I played at the opening of Ny'alotha on a Mage for about 3 weeks you see listed above but never really got into the game with a guild to mythic raid on.

Availability:

I work 9-5 GMT Mon-Fri, my schedule is generally pretty flexible after that as I don't really have any rigid commitments, especially now my jobs qualifications are all complete. I'm a night owl so tend to go to bed at about 2am on Weekdays and 3-4am on weekends.

Communication:

English is my first language, I have TS3 and pretty much every other VOIP out there. I do down a microphone and love to get involved in guild banter as well as having previous raidlead experience. I appreciate efficient, precise callouts during pulls due to my experience playing CS/Overwatch where being abel to listen to the game/other teammates is crucial for gameplay.

Computer / Connection:

I have a 980ti & AMD 2600X, I generally run every game I play at about 144Hz. Living in jersey has the benefit of having Gigabit fiber broadband in every home. Here's a screenshot of a speedtest I just did - https://gyazo.com/73cefbfa7ee0db1f3f98f52e86f2ed47

Addons/UI:

I use a mix of Weakauras for any class/spec specific procs to track and cooldowns such as this - https://wago.io/SyGtPbRHm - I do also like modifying and making my own.

Details, DBM/Bigwigs (I usually use whatever the rest of my guild uses) and elvUI are also essential for me. I play without actionbars visible, because there's nothing worse than a player that stares at their actionbars whilst ignoring mechanics!

Other Games:

I touched on this in my bio aswell, sorry! Here's a refresher.

Outside of 'competitive' titles, I enjoy The Legend of Zelda series, racing games, Super Smash Bro's and generally like playing 'social' games when friends are over.

Why Iron Edge?

I'm looking for a welcoming, close-knit guild to call my own for a while. I've been in and out of guilds historically because the majority of them have dissolved or I've not been able to commit for much longer than a few months due to academic reasons, Now I'm an 'adult' and actually have free time on my hands most nights a week I'd love to get back into raiding and shooting the shit with 20 other people on a regular basis.

I have had some of my best gaming experiences in close-knit WoW guilds, and generally want to find 'home' in a guild that wants to have fun and get shit done.

What can I offer Iron Edge?

A very experienced mythic raider and general 'competitive gamer' that lives for banter and progression. I very much am a level-headed player that doesn't care for loot whining and game as an escapism away from the boredom of working in finance.

Where did I hear about Iron Edge?

WoWProgress

Last Words?

Again, I'm looking for a potential raiding position (on either team to be honest) in Shadowlands, but generally I'm looking for an accommodating guild I can relax with to run an endless amount of mythic+ with while socialising with like-minded individuals.

Cheers for reading, I feel I've rambled a tonne here but welcome to provide any resources for you guys if needed be - A lot of my raiding is done across transferred characters from across Horde/Alliance and back again so there's not a squeaky-clean audit, but I do have some screenshots and links to provide if required.

Cheers!

Just realised I didn't really clarify what spec/roles I would be playing going into Shadowlands.

I intend to play Ranged DPS or Heal in Shadowlands in a raiding environment, I'm 90% sure I want to 'main' Priest and will 100% decide when I resub and play in pre-patch Shadowlands. I'll likely also level a mage and would be open to raiding on that. I also intend to play a DK to run a lot of M+ on as a tank but would also be interested in raiding on that character as a DPS if you're somehow short on MDPS.

Hiyo Emalon,

You've written a decent application, however at the moment our ranged and healer roster for Shadowlands is rather full so unfortunately I will have to decline this application. Best of luck in your search!  :)

Would you consider me if I played a Rogue/DH? I really am quite open to what I want to play going into SL and over the years have enjoyed playing a wide variety of roles/classes.

If it's still a no - cheers anyway, I'll keep you guys on my radar. I realise I've probably left finding a guild for SL a bit late and as someone who isn't currently playing the game I can't exactly put up the greatest of applications.

Hi Emalon,

I spoke to our melee officer as well and he shares the same issue of capacity that I do. I will reiterate that I think you've got a good application going on, but we have been having a surge of applicants as of late. The situation could change once we're in Shadowlands so it would be well worth checking in with us again at that point.

Hi guys,

Sorry to 'bump' this app after being rejected, but I'm wondering if you have capacity for a ranged/melee DPS player to join your ranks?

I'm writing to you guys again because I'm doing my search for a guild for the expansion hitting and remembered Iron Edge - I genuinely enjoyed the approach you guys had to progress on your website and think this guild would be the best fit for me, you guys are my first choice.

Since messing about on pre-patch as of last week, I plan on levelling & gearing a Mage & DH and possibly a Warlock/Priest week 1&2 of SL. DH I look to push M+ with as a tank, while Mage/Warlock/Priest would be ideal for raiding DPS. If someone playing either of these characters could be of any use to any of your raiding teams, please let me know.

Cheers for reading.

I doubt the Main Raid will have a spot since we have 40 man roster as is atm
though you need Moon (our ranged officer) for the final verdict

You could try to apply to the Weekend Raid I think they are Looking for Ranged DPS

I'm keen to raid for the weekend team - Should I make another application or are you able to forward this to them?

Hello Harry,

There is no reason to make another app, yours is pretty good and i do like your attitude.
I do have to point out that the Weekend Raid is not a stepping stone towards any other team. Since our niche is 1 day/week raiding, we take an even more casual approach to raiding, whilst still pushing as much as we can with the time we've got.

If that's ok with you, i'd like to take a day to make sure that i have a spot for you.
What do you thinnk?

Sounds fantastic, your schedule for raiding Sundays aligns with me pretty well. It'll be a great opportunity for me to get back into raiding no matter the context.

I look forward to hearing from you anyway, cheers.

Hello again, Harry.

Thank you very much for patiently waiting.
I can safely say that we have room for you in our team.
You can poke any officer for an invite.
