"Hmm?" ?

Is that a question, answer, or did your head just fall on the keyboard?

Horrible user interface. Mouse pointer drags behind.

Bland level design: Quest hub = T-shaped room with 3 portals and random questgivers standing around? Lots of 90° angles. Flat surfaces.

Gameplay consisting of gunning down in-your-face demons.

Graphic bugs? I can't see the grenade-style-weapons I shoot with my marksman.

Agreeing on everything Goza said.

Interface is truly hideous - totally clunky. Lagging mousepointer is pretty damn awful too.

Chat interface is crap.

The actual interchange between 'screens' is bad - from game, to inventory, to shop, to...

Redeeming factors:
Kinda cool to see London in post-apocalyptic form
Getting fat legendaryweapons and gunning down zombies in 0.2 seconds instead of 0.5.
Character progression (but that's the hook on every RPG, so nothing new there)
Now I run a tech website.

Turn off Anti aliasing and the mouse will be fixed. Other then that, yes it's a simple game. But simple games are so much fun.

Sounds like Hellgate is very much not Goza's cup of tea.

Your gameplay description sounds like Doom or Quake games. Pretty accurate.

Seems like some people have the idea that having the tag MMO means you should expect gameplay similar to WoW, WoW being the defacto MMO. But really, remember what the MMO acronym stands for, and then it all makes sense again!

Truth be told, from the original previews etc a year or a few ago that I'd read, if anything I'd expected Hellgate to be even less focused on the RPG elements than it is, and more FPS-y.

I totally agree. I mean, look at these screenshots I found of some other game. I don't know what it is, but going by those surfaces and angles, I can certainly say it must be god awful.

This one's at least a little softer on the eyes than the others, but I mean, just looking at it, I wish the player would run forward into that more natural area, and never look back.

Inexcusable spam of flat surfaces and right angles on this one. You might want to avert your eyes.

The surfaces and angles in this screenshot makes me want to throw up, or cry, or both. It's grim.

I know, I'm sorry. This is practically indecent.

OH GOD THE HORROR! THE HORROR!

EDIT** one image insists it doesn't exist, yet browser lets me point to it no problem. A couple of images and text not appearing in this post either, despite still being here in the edit box... wierd.

/giggle :)

If I hadn't deinstalled the demo already, I could show you some 'nice' Hellgate screenshots. HL2, released 3 years ago, beats Hellgate by miles. At least on my system - apparently the Hellgate shader are quite important to the graphics, might not run on my system.

Ah, thanks Grax.

No, not trying to say Hellgate is pretty by any means (although, it is once you turn the settings up). I just can't get my head round this thing of 90 degree angles and/or flat surfaces being somehow an inherently bad thing. Or basically, it just seemed an incredibly obscure, odd thing to judge the graphics of a game on.

Regarding shaders, I'm not sure. I do know that when I first loaded up Hellgate, it was ugly as sin. Had to turn the settings all up, and then restart the game, and voila, everything was very pretty.

** Also, while HL2 is 3 years old, it still looks good - despite their copious use of flat surfaces and right angles! Comparatively speaking though, on my system Hellgate's visuals are a lot better than HL2 Episode2's.

That link just leads to the login page for US :x

But I'll be playing. I've been levelling my retail char already, the beta servers are back up and the characters you make this time, you can keep. I've ended up with a guardian at the moment, havign fun being hard as nails, though may end up with marksman or summoner. Tried the other caster type, wasn't really my style.

If you want to start levelling your character/s, just log into the EU beta with the login you were using before, if you have one.
