Waiting for WOTLK
« on: October 28, 2008, 06:21:02 pm »
In the run up to WOTLK I have found myself playing less and less WoW, not because of dwindling interest, but more because after Nov 13'th, WoW is all I am going to play for quite a while. So I have taken the opportunity to finish of a few other games which have been taking up space on my hard disk. (And stretching the legs of my ATI4780)

So far I have completed:

Bioshock (good but ultimately dissapointing next to system shock)

I am hoping to nail at least one of the following in the next couple of weeks:

Company of Heroes
Knight of the old republic (1)
Oblivion (if I can be bothered)

I was just wondering, are there others like me, and if so what games are have you been focusing on recently?

Fable 2 for the Xbox!

Fallout 3 for Xbox or PC!! (I guess you don't have an Xbox?)

Mass Effect is awesome, if you haven't played it yet (much more satisfying than BioShock)

Or Civ IV: Colonization, if you like TBS :)

No no, I am a purist. These hands shall only touch on a PC... Well that and the wifes Wi Fit  :D

Mass effect is definitely on my list as is Fallout 3, but I want to get Kotor our of the way first.

I am a massive fan of Civ IV so may give Colonization a shot soon, is it worth the mantle of old Colonization?

It's an amazing remake of the original Colonization, don't worry :)

Games take about 4-10 hours or so... and they're pretty hard!

Tyler could talk about it more than I though; he's a fan.

If you're into space combat/flight sims, X3: Terran Conflict might be worth a look.

Am I the only one who disliked Mass Effect ? Dialogues are boring, story sucks combat is fun at first but you find yourself doing the same things after a while.

I disliked it for the opposite reasons! I enjoyed the talking and story and combat I found very clunky and linear and boring! Kotor i really enjoyed , loved bioshock (although most of the hand stuff was rather pointless (traps for one) lesser known title "folklore" for the ps3 bit of a strange adventure but quite enjoyable. Spore I still enjoy now im finally in space :P hmm what else.... oblivion i never got on with... titans quest maybe? if its PC stuff check through the steam list , you might find some gems in there for some cheap $$$

I did most of the side missions for Mass Effect.  I wish I hadn't.  They were awful copypasta.  The main storyline, however, was excellent.  Combat was ok, nothing special, but not particularly bad.

Infact, Far Cry 2 is a lot like Mass Effect in that way, except the main storyline is just copypasta like the side missions.  The combat is pretty fun, though... except when u blow up enemy vehicles and they flip over and land on top of your head...

It does look fucking amazing, though.  Playing it on full settings (only 4xAA) at 1300x800 (or some such) and it's just jaw-dropping.  The environment, especially the weather and day/night cycle, really add something to the game.  I do feel, however, that that is all the game brings to the table.  Some of the dialogue/voice acting is pretty funny, but 99% of it is completely atrocious monotone crap, spoken so fast that it's not understandable in their weird accents.

I liked Bioshock and Mass Effect, I kept restarting Mass Effect though to try out other chars and then it got a bit boring, should have just played through on one char.

My xBox got the three red rings of death the day I bought Force Unleashed, so I'm hoping to get my xBox back from the repair centre and FU fired up before Nov 13th.

I'm wanting to try Gears of War 2. (though it's to be released 11th of november, so pretty close to Wotlk).
