Let the right one in
« on: March 09, 2009, 11:22:06 am »
This is a swedish vampire movie. PLEASE, don’t stop reading! Its one of the best movies from last year and one of the best swedish movies in a long time. Hell, if you’re going to see ONE swedish movie from this decade, I would recommend this one.

This is not a swedish "From Dusk till Dawn". Thank god. This is a drama; a love story between two outcasts. Oskar is a 12 year old boy that doesnt have any friends and gets bullied on a daily basis. He dreams of fighting back but doesnt have the strength to do it. Along comes a new neighbour; a strange, young girl named Eli. She only comes out at night and walks around barefooted in the cold swedish winter. A strong bond starts to grow between the two. Oskar finds strength to defend himself in Eli but when defenceless, Eli aids him in her own special way…

This is a beautiful horror movie. The atmosphere is just awesome. You don’t get scared because a vampire jumps out screaming from a closet. You get scared because of the creepy atmosphere throughout the film and the creepy characters. The murders are fantastic. Its one of those movies you want to see again before you’ve even seen the credits. And after the fucking awesome ending, you really want to see it again.

Oh, the movie takes place in 1982. Don’t make fun of our cloths, haircuts and police cars. It doesn’t look like this anymore.
9/10

As greedy as Hollywood are they both the rights to film a American version of the movie..... probly with a shity title and some famous actors....

More to come about that....

I saw this one last friday. It's pretty good. I wouldn't say it's as OMGAWESHUM as you guys have described it, but it's definitely a very solid move. I wouldn't watch it unless you're in the mood for a slow and intelligent movie. Because it's not your standard thriller. It's more of a drama-horror movie.

Anyway, thumbs up for giving me something to watch that isn't mainstream hollywood!

Oh, and I know the subtitles/translation was good, since Gerður speaks swedish fluently.
Trolls are awesome!

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1139797/

Made it into the 250 list now (listed as 191), and has gained another .1 score since last update! Rare to see Swedish non-Bergman movies up there.

Creepy, and totally carried by some fantastic acting by the children.

Bed now.

nice to see that a few of you gave a swedish movie a chance (and that you didnt find it terrible!).

agree on the acting delling but I also really liked the visuals.

i hope there wont be ten years untill i recommend a swedish movie again.

Fanstastic direction of photography.

it's cool to watch a vampire movie in a more realistic, natural way.

Am I the only one noticing the sexual connotation?
