i LOVED demon's souls. judging by IGN article this one is even harder and less forgiving. its a good review (and score) if you wanna have a look

will probably not buy it at release though. it's a 60hr+ playthrough so I'll wait untill i have more time. besides it seems to be a few parts of the game that are pretty ridiculous at the moment.

besides, skyrim in a month..!

but..I will buy this game sooner or later and look forward to playing it!

I'm interested in it, but then again so I was in Demon's Souls and I finally ended up playing it for ~2h as I got quite put off by it's IMO non-standard interface (seems to be a PS3 issue). Switched to some other game, didn't get back to it yet (too many gamez).

So, problem is with all the games out I doubt I will be able/willing to assign much time to such an unforgiving game.

so who's playing?

i'm a level 12 pyromancer, played a few hours. i just escaped the dragon on the bridge in the undead castle. pretty damn hard so far. i'd like to find a way to repair equipment and level my pyromancy :S. the game does not explain anything just like in demon's souls and is very unforgiving. however, so far it is balanced and you tend to die if you dont play well. not a game you can play for more than a few hours becaause you tend to just die over and over when you're not focused.

love it so far, lets see if im patience enough for the whole game. i think so! will take weeks or months to find out :)

lvl 62, in Anor Londo. Playing as a STR based melee class.

i'd like to find a way to repair equipment

You can repair by buying repair dust from merchant in Undead Burg (expensive option for emergencies) or wait until you find a Blacksmith.

just finished anor londo. this game is great!

I still have a long way to go though, i think, despite playing almost 40hrs.

the first 4-5 areas of the game was extremely... challenging. i died ALOT. it gets better once you gain some levels and get better gear/spells. im pretty powerful now which feels very rewarding. the game still continue to challenge me though.

the story is non existant just like in demon's souls and pretty much nothing is explained in-game. there are no maps, quest logs, etc. you have to find out everything yourself. there is a good wiki and a nice commuiny online to advice you when things gets really ugly, or when you just like to find your class trainer :)

what makes this game (and demons souls)so great is the excellent gameplay and awesome athmosphere. its the most fun,  challenging and most rewarding gameplay out there. oh, and most boss fights are truly epic.

Dark Souls actually reminds me of Ocarina of Time on N64 which I hold as the best singel player game ever made. It is darker and more hardcore but the with similar, excellent gameplay, crappy story, wonderful atmosphere and epic bosses/levels.
