Computer problems, suspecting it might be the "Asus Ai Suit"
« on: December 14, 2008, 05:59:28 am »
So yeah i got my new computer a few weeks back and my current MB is Asus P5N-D

I didnt have any issues earlier, but now recently when ive been playing DMC4  i get a quick popup and my computer shuts down.

As the popup only comes sometimes, and then its only up for half a second i cant make much of it. What i have made out  though is that is says somethign about my "Power button" being alterd, and something about "AI Suite".

Any idea's what it might be?

It spread to Fallout 3 now aswell, seems all heavy duty games shut the computer down. Older games seem to work fine though. (Direct X 10 issues?)

Just had a similar effect, but this time it was a error instead of a popup.

Unhandled exeption in "AAcenter.exe"

Used the task scheduler to disable some Asus startup programs, so the AAcenter is gone, but now the computer just shutsdown without warning.

AI Suite is the asus motherboard utility suite for measuring temperature of various things and changing the way that your processor/fans perform.  It also has a feature called 'AI Nap' which lets u instantly turn off your pc.  Maybe you have it key-bound to something or it's just malfunctioning.  You may want to try uninstalling and reinstalling your mobo drivers (not just disabling them with task scheduler).

It could also be that some fan or other on your pc is broken or underperforming and, when you play newer games, your system overheats and automatically turns off.  Check out the health page in your bios and see what the temperatures and fan speeds are (try to do this as quickly as possible after a crash).  Or use programs like cpuz and gpuz to get this info (or the asus driver program 'pc probe') and monitor these stats in real time as u play games.

You may also want to try making sure u have auto-reboot turned off in your windows crash/recovery settings (control panel -> system -> advanced -> start up and recovery -> automatic restart).  Not sure if this can actually turn off your pc, though, it should just reboot it.

Or... maybe you're pressing your pc's power button by accident?  Is it near your leg?  Got curious pets?

Almost certainly overheating.

Start Windows in safe mode and see what happens.
Now I run a tech website.
