The Walking Dead
« on: November 03, 2010, 06:13:08 pm »

From the guys who did The Shawshank Redemption, Terminator, Aliens...

The Walking Dead is an American television series developed for television by Frank Darabont and based upon the comic book series of the same name by Robert Kirkman, Tony Moore and Charlie Adlard. It premiered on the AMC network on October 31, 2010 with a 90-minute premiere episode, during the network's "Fearfest".

The Walking Dead tells the story of the aftermath of a zombie apocalypse and follows a small group of survivors traveling across the United States in search of a new home away from the hordes of zombies. The group is led by Rick Grimes, who was a police officer in the old world. As their situation grows more and more grim, the group's desperation to survive pushes them to do almost anything to stay alive.

---

Anyway me and Narco watched the first episode and it's good has some familiar faces in there as well from other TV shows. I'd recommend it anyway, it seems very high budget, the effects, acting and storyline so far are really well done. It just aired so not much catching up to do.

8/10

I agree with the people on the state of the game podcast, that you shouldn't judge a series based only on the first episode, cause it is literally created to bring the hype up. But anyways, I expect this to be a good series based on the production behind it!

I'm not too fond of zombie stuffs though -.-

I thought it was really boring, other than that black fatherfigure, he was great.

From the director of The Shawshank Redemption and The Green Mile, so definitely worth watching it!

Me and Byee saw it last night, and we thought it was great. Amazing atmosphere. It's more of a horror-drama than a action zombie flick - so some might find it slow (or boring), i loved it tho.

Read the comic - watched first ep...
Doesn't quite represent the same filth as the comic - which is a shame.
Seems way more americanized~

I can however suggest y'all read the comic, it's fucking brilliant. One of my favs.

Ok i liked it, and the effects are great.
Only 1 thing is annoying.... Why the fuck have they made sloooooowww zombie's.... HELLO its 2010, were not living in the 80's anymore!
Now its like OMG there's a zombie! Ill just do a double quick and nothing is wrong.
They should have made the zombie's or related creatures, like they made them in 28 days later / 28 weeks later, they are damn fast in those movies. Thats more action if you ask me.
Anyways im still gonna follow this serie :P

Slow zombies ftw. All the recent zombie movies seemed to have fast zombies already.
I liked the "masses instead of speed" approach they took in the end.

These zombies are perfect. They're not too slow, not too fast. Come in big masses, are still dangerous and not stupid. They can open simple doors, but can't yield weapons (so far).

Can't wait for episode 2.

this

i think the zombies not constantly running like dead men with their rotten bodies (how does running with half rotted muscles make sense anyway?) builds up a certain tension

they're definitely not displayed as completely useless, but more or less like animal instinct driven humans with inferior bodies. Which is cool, because it gives the show this certain constant uneasy feeling, especially seeing how almost everyone is a zombie except for the main guy

Reminds me of that scene in 28 Weeks Later. The zombies are all going nuts, screaming, running around... and then they come to a big flight of stairs!

Apparently all the zombies slow down and grab the hand rail as they run down the stairs :P

They never did bother to re-film it though...
